Toyota Touch 2 – how to update maps and software

Toyota Touch 2

It’s easy to keep your Toyota Touch 2 with Go navigation system updated with the latest maps and software using the MyToyota customer portal.

In this video we show you how to update your Toyota Touch 2 system’s maps and software, and below you’ll also find step-by-step instructions.

To get started, you’ll need to log in to your personalised MyToyota area. If you’ve already registered, simply head to MyToyota and enter your email address and password. First time users will need to complete a simple registration process, which is explained in this step-by-step post.

Click on ‘e-Store’, and then scroll down to access the ‘Maps’ section to view available updates for your system. Select an update to get more information on your update.

Select the car to which the update applies, and click ‘Add to Basket’. If you haven’t yet linked your Toyota Touch 2 with Go system to your MyToyota account, the onscreen prompts will help you to do this.

View your basket by clicking ‘Basket’ from the menu at the top of the page. From here, you can proceed through the checkout process, entering your details and choosing the most convenient payment method – either credit card or PayPal.

With checkout complete, click on the ‘Purchases’ area to see your purchased map update and beside the map update are three icons.

To enable the map update you need to click on the KEY icon. You will be given a 16-digit activation key code. Please write this down or print it from the website using the print function.

The second icon will give you a set of instructions on how to download your maps, and the third icon is a link to the actual download. Please download the ZIP file, expand it on your computer or laptop, and save it to a blank USB stick.

Now take the USB stick and the 16-digit activation key and go to your car.

Plug in the USB and follow the onscreen instructions.

You can also update the software of your Toyota Touch 2 system following a similar process. You will not, however, require a 16-digit activation code for software updates. View available updates in the ‘Software Updates’ section of the MyToyota e-Store.

  1. I have Toyota Verso bought April 2015. The satnav is a Touch and Go plus with Software revision 4.3.0H and Map ID 2014v2. Please, can you tell me when an update for this is going to be available on the MyToyota website?

    1. Hi Emil. Thank you for getting in touch. Updates tend to be made available twice a year. However, we cannot give an exact date for when an update will be made available.

      1. Hi Rawlings. Updates can vary depending on your system. Please visit My Toyota to see all pricing information for your specific model. Thank you.

      2. I’ve got a verso I. 8 tr on a 09 plate…
Can I have touch 2 system on my car & how much would it cost me to upgraded to Touch & Go,
        Many Thanks.

      3. Hi Darren,
Are you saying you have Touch 2 in your vehicle already and you would like to upgrade to Touch & Go OR do you have Touch and want to upgrade to Touch 2? Many thanks.

      4. I don’t have the touch system in my car.
I was wondering how much it would cost to have this system installed.

      5. Hi Darren,
After speaking with our team, we would have to advise speaking to your local Toyota dealer regarding the installation of the touch system. Thy will be able to provide the best advice on this. Many thanks.

  2. Hi Ella,

Thanks for the info. I am indeed selecting the “Toyota Touch 2 with Go (High)” when using a USB stick.

I have signed up to “www. toyota-tech.eu” but I am unable to find an area of the site which provides software updates. I have not taken out a subscription so maybe this is the problem? However, I would assume that I should not be paying for an update on a virtually new car.

In referring me to the above site does this mean there are problems going through My Toyota? This is where I have been downloading software up until now.

You also refer me to a Toyota genuine USB memory stick (Part Number PZ490-ED336-0K) that contains the update files. I have no idea where to find that. Googling produces nothing. Also from what you’re saying it would appear that I have to buy this stick. Paying to update my car seems unreasonable.

Many thanks for your continuing help in this matter.

    1. Hi John,
Thanks for getting back to us. As far as the http://www.toyota-tech.eu site is concerned, you need to hover the cursor over “OWNER” and then click on ” MAP UPDATES”. Then select “UPDATE” in the Toyota Touch 2 with Go (High) section and obtain the USB stick (Part Number PZ490-ED336-0K) from any Toyota Centre. As far as the My Toyota area is concerned, we are not aware of any issues.

      1. Hi. I am also having a problem finding the “Software Updates” section in the e-store. Can you provide a screenshot or directions on where the software update for the system is please?

      2. Hi Alex,
Thanks for your post. After speaking with our technical team, they have advised visiting: http://www.toyota-tech.eu/Navigation/base. You can then select the system that is installed in your car, or select “more info” and it will tell you how to check the software version. Hope this helps!

  3. I have to say that this “system” is an unmitigated disaster and most of the comments confirm this. I fail to see why at each service when the car is Toyota GB don’t do this if it is so simple.
I’m sat in the car following all the instructions with my lap top for the 4th time and it says SOFTWARE VERSION 2.8.4H on Plug in Prius YF63 MPO, “NOT RECOGNISED”

  4. Hi,
During updating nav system power was interrupted and process failed. I could not restart process therefore I asked dealer to perform update. Unfortunately they are not able to recover system and informed me that I need to buy new hardware. I have asked if it can be done on guarantee (car bought February 05th, 2014 but it is over 100 000 km) – dealer promised to ask Toyota manufacturer. I am waiting for answer from dealer but it looks that nav system has a lot of space for improvement.

    1. Hi Jarek,
Thanks for getting in touch. We’re so sorry to hear you’re experiencing problems and we would have to advise staying in contact with your local Toyota dealer in order to solve this issue.

      1. Hi Ella,
Local dealer replaced hardware and reinstall software without any additional cost. So case solved in nice way.

  5. I have a new shape 2016 fortuner. On the entertainment system the MirrorLink is disabled, How can I get it enabled?

    1. Hi there,
Thanks for getting in touch. Unfortunately, because we do not sell the Fortuner model, we are unable to comment on the MirrorLink system within the car. We would have to suggest contacting your local Toyota Centre for this information. Many thanks.

  6. I’m considering updating the map on my Touch and Go, but was shocked to find the update costs over £100. If a new update is due soon I’d rather wait – unless you can offer an OAP discount!

  7. Hi Andrew,
Thanks for getting in touch. We can advise that map updates are due around April and November.

  8. I have a new Prius Dec 16.
Love the car best Hybrid ever (its my fourth) but this is my first with a Sat Nav. I did manage to get it updated when I bought it but what a palaver. I now find it does not recognise full UK postcodes. This is a pain as it also does not recognise places that do not have a number, like a hotel on a long out of town road, joined half way at a roundabout, at night. yes I turned left not right.
Nothing else found wanting though. Except why the heck don’t Toyota GB let owners buy the accessories they want? Available from Germany or France but not UK?
Hood deflector is on the uk website but not available. The bonnet or hood is very very vulnerable to chipping. I ordered black inside not white, then told the steering wheel and gear surround would still be white. Waiting was not an option as the TAX rules are changing.

    1. Hi Ian,
Thanks for getting in touch and we’re sorry to hear that you’re having problems with your Prius. Have you been to your local dealer about this? Many thanks.

      1. I updated to 6.8.1 WL from a a chip sent from my dealer, although somehow I also have a download on my PC which I think came from toyota-tech.eu with an activation code. It was a one heck of a palaver but the only way I could get it. Yes it should have been done on the PDI but was not.
I do not know if it should be possible to enter full uk post codes. I did not buy the Prius from my local dealer and past experience tells me that dealer know about cars not software so no I have not been back to the dealer with this issue.

      2. Hi Ian,
Any sat nav software for Toyota vehicles should recognise full UK postcodes. If you’re having serious issues with this please contact customer relations and they should be able to help advise further. However, functions like this should be able to be demoed by local dealers.

      3. My mistake Ella. It was a learning curve. The full post code needs the space. It does not show it on screen if saved. In the case of the hotel the post code showed it on a different Road and if I put in the road and number not all the post code. It just takes zoom bit of getting used to.

      4. Hi Ian,
We’re glad you’ve sorted this issue! We hope you have many happy years in your car. 🙂

      5. Without doubt this will be a keeper as to drive it is the best I have owned. The technology is brilliant and 65mpg from a large petrol automatic outstanding. However all of my four Hybrids have suffered badly from stone chips. This is not different. I picked the perlecent paint and Gen.coat in the hope it would be more durable, but it is not. My first long motor way trip resulted in a very nasty chip to the bonnet which I have been told is irreparable. I tried to buy the hood deflector accessory PU500-4716E shown in the brochure and Toyota website, but find it is not available. This is a pity because the design makes the bonnet vulnerable and modern paintstyle are clearly little protection.
Smart repairs wether by Toyota dealers or Chips Away are not suitable for bonnet repairs and three part touch up paints are very noticeable.

  9. Hi. I have bought Toyota Rav 4 hybrid excel 2.5 ( top of the range) and put almost all the extras possible. I am extremely disappointed to find out that my Toyota hybrid Came with a very (outdated) navigation version installed. I am aware of this because it doesnt find my house on the map which i moved afew years back. In my old car bavigation I updated my Map in mid 2016 it was all fine. Such a shame really that spending 36K on a car , Toyota expects the customer to pay another £100 + to get the updates done on navigation even though the car is only 2 weeks old. Really ..

Also no upgraded speakers were installed and apoarently only come as stadard in US version of same make. Not even an upgrade option available .. how can i sort this.
    Thanks
    Ray

    1. Hi Ray,
We’d have to advise speaking with customer relations and logging your complaints. They will deal with this in the most effective way!
