Toyota Touch 2 – how to update maps and software

Toyota Touch 2

It’s easy to keep your Toyota Touch 2 with Go navigation system updated with the latest maps and software using the MyToyota customer portal.

In this video we show you how to update your Toyota Touch 2 system’s maps and software, and below you’ll also find step-by-step instructions.

To get started, you’ll need to log in to your personalised MyToyota area. If you’ve already registered, simply head to MyToyota and enter your email address and password. First time users will need to complete a simple registration process, which is explained in this step-by-step post.

Click on ‘e-Store’, and then scroll down to access the ‘Maps’ section to view available updates for your system. Select an update to get more information on your update.

Select the car to which the update applies, and click ‘Add to Basket’. If you haven’t yet linked your Toyota Touch 2 with Go system to your MyToyota account, the onscreen prompts will help you to do this.

View your basket by clicking ‘Basket’ from the menu at the top of the page. From here, you can proceed through the checkout process, entering your details and choosing the most convenient payment method – either credit card or PayPal.

With checkout complete, click on the ‘Purchases’ area to see your purchased map update and beside the map update are three icons.

To enable the map update you need to click on the KEY icon. You will be given a 16-digit activation key code. Please write this down or print it from the website using the print function.

The second icon will give you a set of instructions on how to download your maps, and the third icon is a link to the actual download. Please download the ZIP file, expand it on your computer or laptop, and save it to a blank USB stick.

Now take the USB stick and the 16-digit activation key and go to your car.

Plug in the USB and follow the onscreen instructions.

You can also update the software of your Toyota Touch 2 system following a similar process. You will not, however, require a 16-digit activation code for software updates. View available updates in the ‘Software Updates’ section of the MyToyota e-Store.

  1. Hi all,
I have a doubt about the update of touch 2 Go navigation system from 4.2.2L to 4.3.0L.
Yesterday I downloaded the zip file 4.3.0L.zip from toyota customer service portal then I unzipped it and copied the folder 4.3.0L into a usb pen drive (8GB size) formatted in FAT32 (I formatted the USB memory using Win7 laptop). I performed the copy of the folder 4.3.0L using a macbook laptop.
After I inserted the USB pen into the USB port of my RAV4 nothing happened 🙁
Now I am retrying to format again the USB memory and do the copy using win7 laptop instead of Macbook.
Do you know where is the problem ?
Do you know if I can copy the 4.3.0L folder to an sdcard inserted into an android phone and then connect the android device to USB port of my Toyota RAV4 ?

  2. Hi Antimo, sorry to hear you’re having trouble with your system update for Touch and Go 2. We’ve spoken to our technical department, they recommend trying these few steps: double check the USB is formatted to FAT32. If you download the file and then extract the Zipped file directly to the USB this will ensure the contents of the zipped doc mirror the USB contents; try not to move the files around. We hope this helps, do let us know how you get on!

      1. Don’t waste your money with updating the built in Sat nav maps. It’s cheaper to go to Halfords or Argos and buy a Garmin Sat nav with lifetime Maps and Traffic updates. They are much simpler to update and work much better.

  3. Hi Neville
    Thanks for your post.
If you can confirm the problem you have been having with your car then we would be happy to check this further for you.

  4. Hi, I’ve just updated my Rav4 using a brand new micro sd card. I didn’t format it, just used it straight out of the pack. No problems at all.

  5. Cannot connect to internet with my auris I think this system stinks anyone else have problems

    1. Hi Chris. Sorry to hear that you’re having issues. Have you registered your vehicle at my.toyota.eu and my.toyota.co.uk? If you have not already done so, you’ll need to accept the internet provider terms and conditions. Please give us a bit more detail and we’ll do our best to help you get it sorted.

  6. Hi thanks for your reply yes have joined both have done all it asks me to do I am going to my garage in Crawley to get them to do it in front of me I think the whole system is very long winded and very old fashioned we the public want something that connects fast and does what it is meant to do

    1. Hi Chris. We’ve taken your criticism on board and passed it on to our product department. We hope you can get the issue sorted once and for all when you visit your dealer. Thanks.

  7. Hi, do these instructions only apply to Touch 2 & Go (eg. including navigation)? Or is it possible to follow the instructions to update the software on the Touch 2 (no navigation). Thanks

    1. Hi Stuart, thank you for taking the time to contact us. These instructions only apply for Touch 2 & Go (with navigation). Please note there are currently no software updates for Touch 2 (without Go). We hope this helps!

  8. I have tried to update my touch and go 2 from the 4.2.2l map id 2014v1 to the latest update 4.4.1l. I’ve ive paid for and down loaded the file, put it on memory stick and plugged it into the USB drive. My navigation system immediately recognized to stick, did some checks, a few seconds later informed me that the update was complete (which i find hard to beleive seeing that the map files is nearly 4 gb) and I should remove the stick to complete the update, which I’ve done. At which point the screen says “please wait”. After what seems like an iternity (10-20 min) the system returns to normal, and when I check the system type it is still 4.2.2l…

I assume the update didn’t take place? have I done something wrong?

    1. Hi Will
Thanks for your post and we apologise for the delay in replying.
We did have to run your query past our technical team. They could not see anything initially wrong and have suggested that you try to
re-download the file and unzip it to a newly formatted to FAT32 memory stick, (they also recommend a good quality stick as well), then try again. They would expect the update to take 40 mins to an hour and once you have inserted the stick they suggest that you follow any on screen instructions and wait 5 minutes before removing the stick, even if the unit requests it’s removed. If this second attempt is still not successful then you may need to take your car to your local Toyota dealer. Let us know how you get on or if you have any further queries.

    1. Hi Gerry, Touch 2 with Go can be retro fitted to your Touch 2 unit. We recommend speaking directly with your Toyota dealer so they can advise you further and outline costs. To find your local Toyota dealer please visit: http://po.st/C2m9R6. We hope this helps!
