Toyota Touch 2 – how to update maps and software

Toyota Touch 2

It’s easy to keep your Toyota Touch 2 with Go navigation system updated with the latest maps and software using the MyToyota customer portal.

In this video we show you how to update your Toyota Touch 2 system’s maps and software, and below you’ll also find step-by-step instructions.

To get started, you’ll need to log in to your personalised MyToyota area. If you’ve already registered, simply head to MyToyota and enter your email address and password. First time users will need to complete a simple registration process, which is explained in this step-by-step post.

Click on ‘e-Store’, and then scroll down to access the ‘Maps’ section to view available updates for your system. Select an update to get more information on your update.

Select the car to which the update applies, and click ‘Add to Basket’. If you haven’t yet linked your Toyota Touch 2 with Go system to your MyToyota account, the onscreen prompts will help you to do this.

View your basket by clicking ‘Basket’ from the menu at the top of the page. From here, you can proceed through the checkout process, entering your details and choosing the most convenient payment method – either credit card or PayPal.

With checkout complete, click on the ‘Purchases’ area to see your purchased map update and beside the map update are three icons.

To enable the map update you need to click on the KEY icon. You will be given a 16-digit activation key code. Please write this down or print it from the website using the print function.

The second icon will give you a set of instructions on how to download your maps, and the third icon is a link to the actual download. Please download the ZIP file, expand it on your computer or laptop, and save it to a blank USB stick.

Now take the USB stick and the 16-digit activation key and go to your car.

Plug in the USB and follow the onscreen instructions.

You can also update the software of your Toyota Touch 2 system following a similar process. You will not, however, require a 16-digit activation code for software updates. View available updates in the ‘Software Updates’ section of the MyToyota e-Store.

  1. I have recently bought an Auris Excel first registered in September 2016. I understand that this car is eligible for free map updates. I have register with myToyota and when I go in to the estore this tells me that there is a free update to version 4.3.0H as an update from versions 4.2.1H and 4.2.2H available for the car. When I check the car System Information it gives the current map as 2015v2 version 4.5.0WH. I am totally confused! Do I have the latest version and if not how do I update it?

    1. Hi Tony,
Our technical team have advised that it’s likely you haven’t registered your ‘Device ID’ to your MyToyota account and therefore the system is showing you the latest free update. Once you have registered your ‘Device ID’ the latest paid update will show (6.9.0). If you need any further multimedia assistance we would recommend contacting multimedia@toyota.co.uk or calling 0344 701 6202.

      1. Ella,
Thanks for the prompt reply. I have registered the Device ID and the estore is showing version 6.9.0 available but this costs £109. So why do I need to pay for this when the car was first registered last September and your web site states that updates are free for the first 3 years? The only free version on offer is version 4.3.0.
Is it possible that an old satnav has been fitted in the car?

      2. Hi Tony,
Please could you provide us with your software version and your VIN/registration number? We will get our technical team to look into this.

      3. I am in a similar situation – My Auris Excel was first reg Jul 2015 and I bought it this month – When I go to the site it shows that 6.9.0H costs 109.00, but when I click through it says it is free! – User interface could be improved.

      1. I took my car to my local dealer this morning and they updated the unit including installing map 6.9.0WH without any argument. They also confirmed my eligibility for free updates for three years from first registration. However the estore still shows updates to 6.9.0H to be a chargeable update despite the software version being updated in the car’s profile. This morning’s update is shown as a ‘purchase’ in the estore so I guess I will have to go to the dealer every 6 months for updates. I was hoping to save everyone time by downloading the updates free of charge and doing it myself but it seems that this may not be possible.
Either way I now have the latest map plus assurances regarding future updates so am happy.

      2. Hi Tony,
Thanks for updating us. We’re glad to hear your local Toyota Centre sorted this for you and your dealer will be more than happy to help with updates in the future. Alternatively, there is a multimedia helpline: 0344 701 6202. If you need further assistance our technical team would be more than happy to help!

  2. You’re welcome, Tony. We will let you know when we hear back from our technical team. Many thanks for your patience.

  3. Hi Tony,
The update should have been updated to 6.8.1 at the Pre-Delivery Inspection. Therefore we would recommend speaking with your local dealer totake it back for the 6.9.0 update free of charge. Please advise them of your contact with us and this shouldn’t be an issue. We’re very sorry for the inconvenience caused.

  4. Hello,
After the update of the system software and navigation to version 6.9.0H in my Toyota Auris (which went successful, with maps being updated), the Bluetooth is not working anymore. In the Setup menu (sub-menu Bluetooth), the Bluetooth can not be activated anymore. Bluetooth is disabled. Clicking on the “Bluetooth” checkbox doesn’t do anything anymore.
I hope there is a solution for this. Maybe something like “back to factory default and reinstalling the update”?

    1. Hi there,
Thanks for getting in touch. Our technical team have advised contacting your local dealer and heading in for a check on your system.

      1. Thanks for your reply. I will do that, unfortunately taking me some time…

      2. Hi,

have you fixed this issue ? I got the same result after successful update to latest version of map (new avensis with mm16 , map 6.12.0L ) and local dealer sent me home with message that I have broken bluetooth module 🙁

    1. Hi Albert,
Unfortunately, this is not an option on a US model. Sorry for the inconvenience.

  5. Hi all, I’m posting on behalf of my father. He had a 2013 Auris Icon Estate which had Touch 2 with Go Plus, which was workong great but after swapping his car for a 2015 model he found that it only had Touch 2 with Go. He’s been back to the dealers a few times to try and get it upgraded to Plus but hasn’t had any joy with them. So is it possible to upgrade hi system to Plus?? Hope you can help.

    1. Hi Adam,
Thanks for getting in touch and we’re sorry to hear you haven’t managed to get an answer sooner. Unfortunately, it is not possible to upgrade a Touch 2 with Go system to Touch 2 with Go Plus. The Navi Box for the Plus system is under a different Part Number. Additionally, there could some additional complications, e.g. the Plus system offers voice recognition, which would only work if there is the relevant button on the steering wheel. Hope this helps.

      1. Hi Ella, Thanks for the reply. The new car does have the buttons on the steering wheel etc. Is it possible to swap the Navi Box with the old car as that is still at the dealers? He was sold the new car on the understanding that it had the same high system that he was used to and isn’t too pleased with the lack of service he’s received. In case you need it the new cars reg is YS15VPV.

      2. Hi Adam,
We’re sorry to hear you’re unhappy with the service you’ve received. We’ve referred your case to customer relations and we have a record of your Father’s telephone number and your email address. Someone should be in touch within 72 hours.

      3. Hi Ella,
Have you got an update on the issue as we’ve still not heard anything from customer relations and it’s been over a week now? My father has been in touch with the dealer today and has been told that there is an upgrade available for his system but it would cost over a grand!!!

      4. Hi Adam,
We can see that our customer relations team spoke with your dealer and they were advised your dealer would escalate this issue with you. We will speak with customer relations and let you know the outcome. Many thanks.

  6. Hi, since I did the map update at the end of last year I cannot find a way to repeat the voice instructions of the navigation. Is there a way to do this ? Thanks

    1. Hi Steve,
We would have to advise contacting your local dealership to diagnose this issue. Dealers will investigate and they will help to resolve this issue. Many thanks.

      1. Hi Ella

I would have thought that this is a simple question for your technical team rather than troubling my dealer. The feature was there before and I can’t find it now. If it has been removed then I would like to make a request to have it reintroduced in the future.

Are you able to get an answer for me?

        Thanks
        Steve

  7. With the map services I get Cyclops speed camera warnings included. This works great on local driving but I noticed today that it does not report the new cameras in the new smart motorway sections of the M1 motorway. My understanding is that Cyclops provides a real-time update of both mobile and new fixed cameras. Is this correct and do I need to do something to enable this? Thanks, Steve

    1. Hi Ella

I have been in conversation with Cyclops and we have determined that cameras between three junctions on the M62 (which have been there years) that they have in their database are not showing on my car. According to Cyclops Toyota get daily updates of cameras. I have the settings set to show the speed cameras (which do display) and also to do on-line updates. I could take it to a dealer but I’m not sure what they can do. Is there any way that I can check that I am getting the daily updates? I have tested other online services like Twitter and the weather whilst driving and they all work ok.

      Any thoughts?

      Thanks, Steve

      1. Hi Steve,
Our technical department have advised the following:
We can bring this issue to Toyota Europe’s attention via our standard reporting method. However, in order for this to take place, you will have to take your vehicle to a Centre, and the Centre will have to report this issue to us via our logging system.
        Thanks.
