Toyota Touch 2 – how to update maps and software

Toyota Touch 2

It’s easy to keep your Toyota Touch 2 with Go navigation system updated with the latest maps and software using the MyToyota customer portal.

In this video we show you how to update your Toyota Touch 2 system’s maps and software, and below you’ll also find step-by-step instructions.

To get started, you’ll need to log in to your personalised MyToyota area. If you’ve already registered, simply head to MyToyota and enter your email address and password. First time users will need to complete a simple registration process, which is explained in this step-by-step post.

Click on ‘e-Store’, and then scroll down to access the ‘Maps’ section to view available updates for your system. Select an update to get more information on your update.

Select the car to which the update applies, and click ‘Add to Basket’. If you haven’t yet linked your Toyota Touch 2 with Go system to your MyToyota account, the onscreen prompts will help you to do this.

View your basket by clicking ‘Basket’ from the menu at the top of the page. From here, you can proceed through the checkout process, entering your details and choosing the most convenient payment method – either credit card or PayPal.

With checkout complete, click on the ‘Purchases’ area to see your purchased map update and beside the map update are three icons.

To enable the map update you need to click on the KEY icon. You will be given a 16-digit activation key code. Please write this down or print it from the website using the print function.

The second icon will give you a set of instructions on how to download your maps, and the third icon is a link to the actual download. Please download the ZIP file, expand it on your computer or laptop, and save it to a blank USB stick.

Now take the USB stick and the 16-digit activation key and go to your car.

Plug in the USB and follow the onscreen instructions.

You can also update the software of your Toyota Touch 2 system following a similar process. You will not, however, require a 16-digit activation code for software updates. View available updates in the ‘Software Updates’ section of the MyToyota e-Store.

  1. Just taken delivery of a new Yaris Hybrid (my second one!). Can you confirm the Sat Nav version that should be installed please?

    1. Hi Chris, thanks for getting in touch. And congratulations on your new Yaris Hybrid! It should come with the latest version, and you can check this yourself by going to the system information screen or by visiting http://www.toyota-mapupdates.eu/Shop/Index. If it is Touch 2 with Go, the latest map ID is 2014v3. Hope this helps.

  2. Hi Michael and thanks for fast reply. The system information screen says it is 2014v2 so I guess that means a return trip to the dealer 🙁

    1. Hi Chris. You should be able to update your maps yourself. First, visit this page – www.toyota-mapupdates.eu/Shop/Index. Select your model and infotainment system, and it will give you instructions to download any updates. Obviously, your local dealer will also be happy to help, but this might save you a trip. Thanks.

      1. Hi Michael, I have looked at this but it seems I have to pay £109 for a map update? Your first reply said the car should come with the latest version so how do I obtain this update free of charge?

      2. Hi Chris, when a Toyota dealer is carrying out the vehicle PDI checks the latest map update available at that time is uploaded to the vehicle’s multi-media system. We recommend speaking directly with our customer relations department so they can investigate this further for you. Please fill in the online form via: po.st/O3vN72. We hope this helps.

  4. Hi Joseph
Thank you for your post. We have run your query past our technical team and your model of phone is not compatible with our current system. Unfortunately we do not have any news at present as to when an upgrade will be available. Sorry that we cannot be more positive in our reply at the moment and should anything change we will be sure to post the news on our blog.

  5. My sat nav tak Down some very peculiar routes 1 track roads etc when set to fastest routes also tries to take me off m25 only to take me straight back on at same junction it is a touch2 go system any ideas asto what is happening ?

    1. Hi Norman,
Thank you for your post. The navigation system will take the route that it believes is the fastest using the calculations available, this can take some unexpected routes especially when the traffic functions are enabled. To calculate the traffic levels on a particular stretch of road the system has several sources available, if it sees a delay on a section of road from one of the sources it may believe that an alternate route will be better, sometimes this can be leaving the main road and re-joining again. If you are still experiencing problems we would advise visiting your local Toyota Dealer. Hope this helps and if you have any other questions please let us know.

      1. I have had several cars with built in Sat Nav, including a previous Avensis TR.
The one installed in the Avensis Excell I have now (new in March 2015) is the worst. There seems to be little difference between the 3 options -fastest, shortest and Eco, I go for the fastest thinking this will keep me on main roads, but no, if it gets a sniff of a single track road – then off we go. Sometimes we we leave a motorway and then rejoin it – and no there were not any roadworks or holdups.Sadly I have had to put a Tom Tom at the top of my Christmas list

      2. Hi Charlotte, I’m new to these blog sites, so I don’t know if its normal for my post to disappear, but that seems to have happened to the one I posted this afternoon agreeing with Norman about the sat Nav taking unnecessary routes down single track roads

  6. Mickey Mouse, I agree with you. I have a July 2015 Auris Excel, but the Sat Nav is unbelievably bad. I had to park the car in front of my house to get the geographic location, as I could NOT enter the number of the house and, if I tried, it would send me to the back road! Also, it never recalculates route properly when I change the course to pass through areas that I know – I have to enter the address again and REPLACE the previous one. Of course, it took me ages to find out these ways to set address and route properly set. There is a main road close to my house where I go to the super market, and some time ago I tried to get there from another place (before to go home) but I NEVER found the road – I was able to find a proper route when I decided to enter the name of the neighbourhood!
