  1. I have a UK Avensis .. my maps are massively out of date too and I have not been able to get updates as I was led to believe I could when I got the car.
    As I said in a previous post, I have given up on using the built in sat-nav as it is quite poorly designed compared to other systems I have used and none of the features really work that well.

  2. Hi Rob,
    Thanks for your post. We will soon be announcing when you will be able to update the maps on your Avensis, so please do keep an eye out. In the meantime, if you’d like to speak with someone at Toyota, please contact us here: http://ow.ly/bXN6w. We hope this helps.

  3. Hi, I have just tried to update my 2012 Avensis Touch and Go system through the Touch and Go Toolbox PC app. I made the fingerprint in the car, put it in the PC and ran the Touch and Go Toolbox software. The software told me there were important updates which it downloaded and wrote to the key. When I put the USB key in the car the system detects there are updates but then reports “No Update Contents, Please re-run ‘Copy to USB'”. I have done this procedure before without any issues so why would I get an error this time? I have tried this 3 times now it looks like the update file may be bad. Any ideas.

  4. Hi Paul,
    Thank you for your post and we’ll try to help out! We’ve spoken with our Multimedia Team who have provided us with the following steps:

    1. Take a fingerprint from the vehicle (as the customer already did),
    2. Take and insert the fingerprint into the computer and start the Toolbox (as the customer did),
    3. Accept the message to download important contents onto the USB key (as the customer did),
    4. Login to the toolbox as prompted (this is the moment I think the customer took the usb stick out of their computer and entered into their navigation device, which is why it displays this error message),
    5. Download & purchase apps onto stick,
    6. Once downloaded onto usb stick, insert into car to install.

    We hope this works and please do let us know how you get on. Many thanks.

    1. Hi Oliwer

      Thanks for your prompt reply. I am not sure why I have to log in since this is a system update not an app update but I have done as requested and no change. I even tried it by adding the weather app which installed OK but the system update still comes up with “No update contents”.

      The update it downloaded (I think) is 20111121_Toyota_Synctool.tgz. Maybe it is not important. I just like to know why it has failed.

      Many thanks

      Paul

  5. Hello Paul and Oliwer,
    When performing the update procedure on my 2012 Auris Hybrid I experience exactly the same as Paul did. I’m convinced that I’ve exactly followed those steps as outlined by Oliwer.
    To me it seems (after inspecting the content of the downloaded swdl.iso) that the usb-key contains some initial/empty update.
    The file version.txt in the /etc folder shows:
    version=1.0.0
    host=HIIFHSWDEV001
    user=dmiller
    date=Thu 11/17/2011
    time=21:17:32.69
    This while the installed version on my Touch&Go is 1.7.5L
    If it’s useful to the Multimedia Team I can provide fingerprint and/or received swdl.iso 10,8 MB (11.425.792 bytes).
    Hope this helps! Regards.

    1. Hi all.
      On my 2012 Toyota Yaris purchaced in Denmark, I have excact the same problem. Infact it could be a safety risk, since the update screen blocks the rear camera 🙁

  6. Its gone very quiet here.
    Looks like they found an issue and released a new version of the toolbox. Now it only downloads the update after you have logged in. The update still does not work though.
    And to pay us for the software testing they have released a new map. Yours for £110!! So you buy a 2012 model car with 2011 maps then have to pay for the 2012 maps. Toyota you are really taking the pi**. Anyone got a copy of the maps to share?

  7. I have 2012 Yaris bought in South Africa Toyota South Africa say that the Navigation system not working in South Africa.I have also noticed that the hardware is not installed with my Touch and go system. I want to purchase that Toyota PZ490-00331-00 £789 (Hardware) into my touch and go system. Will i be able to download the software from TOM TOM website for Africa and install it on the Touch and go system? I hope someone can help me?

    1. Hi Danie,
      Unfortunately, given you are in South Africa, we at Toyota here in the United Kingdom are not able to help. In such a case, our advice to customers is to visit their Local Dealer with issues and updates to their Touch and Go navigation system. It is also important to note that the system you are referring to is a Toyota product and not a TomTom. Therefore the update will need to go through Toyota in South Africa.
      Thanks for your message and we’re sorry we could not help further.

  8. The touch and go portal is horribly slow. It seems to be looking for stuff that’s not on your servers for every page load. (turn on safari debugging to see details).

    I wanted to find out if my GT 86 maps are updated. Mar 2011 shipped on a sept 2012 product is poor.

    Do you *really* need a windows pc to navigate the site, and run ‘toolbox’ to update a image on the flah drive?

    Dealer not technically upto it, ‘online assistant’ no real idea. Let’s see if this works any better?

  9. Hi Ian,
    We’re sorry to hear about this.
    We have investigated, and yes unfortunately the Touch and Go downloads are only available on a PC, not a Mac. The latest version of the map is EUR20120620. If you have an earlier version, the new download would be available via the Touch and Go portal, or your Local Dealer will be able to update this for you: http://ow.ly/dIh8b. You can view your current map version on the Touch and Go unit by pressing SETUP, then GENERAL, scrolling down and selecting SYSTEM INFORMATION.
    We have also raised the speed of the Touch and Go portal with the relevant department to address.
    Many thanks for your message and we hope this helps.

    1. Thanks, Toyota GB are going to pay to have the correct version supplied. I guess it’s being handled by a 3rd party.

      You really should invest in getting a Mac version of the toolbox written, and getting some more power into the computers running the website though. It’s decidedly old school at present.

    2. I would like to echo the above, Toyota, you REALLY do need to wake up and look at which computers your demographic customers own. WE are all moving to Mac computers, iPads and iPhones. Can’t you cater for us too?
      Please get a Mac OS X version of this so we can enjoy using our vehicle’s potentials too.

      1. Hi Ian,
        Thank you for your post and echoing these concerns.
        We are very sorry for your inconvenience due to the compatibility with Mac computers.
        We can assure you that we have passed this feedback onto our Product Marketing department for consideration in future developments.
        Thanks again for raising this with us, our customer feedback is taken very seriously and is vital in the development of our products.
        Many thanks and kind regards.

  10. In my avensis 2012, i get somthing strange, By mistake I put the device finger print on a USB of 128 mb and when i wanted to download the updates, there is no enough space in the USB. I copied the fingerprint to another USB and i get the updatings but when i tried to use it, I always get after reaching to 7 of 10 that this not avalid SW and i must take out the usb and try with another one. Now i cann’t use the NAV it’s blind just the radio and may be the CD and i couldn’t get another fingerprint or do anything, I really need help.

    1. Hi Luaywam,
      Thanks for your post.
      If you would like to complete a map update, a USB memory stick will be needed with a minimum of 8GB free space. The update to the vehicle can take up to 40 minutes and so sufficient time should be allowed for this. You can also speak with your Local Dealer who will be able to help you with navigation software and map updates; you can find their details here: http://ow.ly/dTg3N
      We hope this helps!
