  1. We entirely agree with the comments about the front lights having a blind spot that is dangerous on unlit country roads. It is disconcerting at all times not to be able to see where you are going until you have completely turned the corner. It has already caused me to damage the passenger side wing when I was forced into the side of the road by a truck and caught something which I could not see. The light pattern in from of the car is symmetrical and only widens a foot in front of the bonnet.

I see that an Assisted Front-Lighting System is fitted to some models (perhaps it should be fitted to all models?) and I would be interested to know if this can be fitted on an existing car.

  2. Further to my comment just posted, I should have said that the car in question is the Toyota Auris HSD Icon Touring Sport, registered June 2013.

  3. Hi Sebastion
Just to let you know that if this is still not working then we do recommend taking your car to your local Toyota dealer. We have double checked a car just to make sure there are no other settings and the system worked. We also need to make you aware that a speedometer will always read more that the true speed of the vehicle (to allow for tyre wear) so if you set the warning at 3 mph over then you need to allow another 10 per cent on top of this.

  4. Hello Graham
Thanks for your post and for your feedback regarding your Hybrid Auris Touring Sports.
Firstly we were sorry to read of your experience in your car and we will pass your comments back to the product team responsible so that they can consider this during future product reviews. We should explain that the assisted front lighting system does have to be fitted at the factory as this works in conjunction with the vehicle steering so it is not the straight forward removal of one headlamp unit to another. A different ECU (engine control unit) is also required.
Hope this helps clarify but do let us know if you have any other questions.

    1. Thank you for responding.

is there anything I can do to improve matters? Can the passenger side lamp be aligned more towards the kerb or would a different type of lamp produce a more diffused light? My Jaguar seems to have similar lamps but the roadside is illuminated all the way back to the car so there is no “black hole”.

      1. Hi Graham
        Thanks for your reply.
Will have another quick word with technical about this for you and we will keep you posted.

      2. Hi Graham
Thank you for your reply and sorry or the delay in replying.
We are just double checking this with our technical team. They have advised that any replacement headlamp unit would be identical to the type currently fitted to your car so the level of illumination would be the same.

  5. My dipped beam lights on my Auris 2013 model don’t seem to be very bright and I have been to halfords to get brighter bulbs but unfortunately they don’t sell bulbs for the latest Auris model. I would like to know if Toyota supply brighter bulbs than the standard ones that come with the car and if so, are they expensive? Or are there any other recommended suppliers of Toyota parts that may be cheaper?

    1. Hello Liam
      Thanks for your post.
We have double checked this with our tech team but there is only one type of bulb which you can fit in your Auris. It would be the same type and power of the bulb currently fitted and we would not recommend the fitting of non-genuine parts to your car. We have brought your concerns about the headlamp efficiency to the attention of the product team for consideration during future product reviews.
Sorry the reply cannot be more positive but hope this helps clarify.

  6. I have bought an Auris Touring Sports (on July 2014, Portugal). With less than 2 months usage it is full of cabin rattles: dashboard (as an example, to solve one of those, the airbag switch was replaced, to no avail), cables that pass under the roof are not fixed and vibrate when the vehicle accelerates especially – this sound can be heard near the cabin lights on top. The handle to fold rear seats vibrates with a metallic sound on certain types of pavement.

Externally, I’ve lost one of the plastic protections that are placed on the lower part of the windshield, after washing the car – the glue was not strong enough to hold the part in place.

Mechanically speaking the car is fine. But interior build quality is awful. And the dealer cannot solve what comes from bad design and assembly. This is not working towards customer satisfaction – and sorry, but Kia and Hyundai are taking cabin quality very seriously. Even Peugeot has finally got that.

What is happening with Toyota ? I sincerely would like to give some sort of feedback regarding the vehicle – does Toyota still cares about continuous improvement ? If so, I would be glad to contribute with some feedback.

  7. Hello Tiago
Thank you for your post and sorry to read about your problems with your Auris Touring Sports.
We take on board your feedback and do appreciate the time you have taken to let us know about this. Just to reassure you we do still care about continuous improvement and this remains a core element of our manufacturing process. We are recognised globally for the quality of cars we build and still achieve good results in automotive surveys. That said if you have a problem with your car then your local dealer is there to help and rectify any problems for you. We also recommend that you bring this matter to the attention of Toyota Portugal so they can also be aware of your concerns and can also feedback these concerns via the official channels. The way Toyota is structured in Europe means that each European distributor takes responsibility of the quality of cars sold within their market.
Hope this helps clarify and thanks again for your post.

    1. Thank you for the clarification.

Let’s hope the Toyota Portugal shows some interest about this – something which I suspect it won’t do. Unfortunately.

  8. We own a 2007 diesel Yaris. For the most part we have no complaints except in two areas. I won’t go into one but the other almost caused a collision this morning. I refer to the indicators. It is widely reported that the indicators fail to cancel themselves, especially when exiting roundabouts. We could live with that provided we could hear the audible warning. I simply cannot hear the sound they are meant to make and so, far too often the indicators continue to operate long after they should have been cancelled. The dangers are surely obvious and it cannot be beyond the capabilities of the Toyota engineers to come up with a small modification to rectify the matter. To continue to allow this problem to exist is ignoring your duty of care and placing your valued cumstomers in needless danger.

  9. When putting on climate control at say 22 c for dual , heat begins to come through but no fan comes on unlike my RAV4 with climate control that I had before . Is this normal or a fault
I would have thought the RAV process of heating you quickly by fan and heat then switching the fan speed down when at remove was the auto norm

    1. Hi Steve
      Thanks for your post.
We did run this past our tech team and we have assumed the vehicle you are referring to is an Auris based on the post you were reading. Technical have advised that the systems on both Auris and RAV have a “Soft, Medium and Fast” fan settings, this controls the fan speed. If you an feel heat coming from a vent then a fan must be blowing but it may be on the “soft” setting. You can override this by pushing the fan speed button (unless the setting is on Auto in which case this will adjust the fan speed.
We hope we have understood your query correctly but please let us know if you have any other questions.

  10. Hi David
Thanks for your post and we appreciate your feedback regarding ownership of your Yaris.
Just to let you know we do pass such information back to our product team so that they can consider such comments during future product reviews. As a very rough guide indicators will not self cancel if the wheel is turned less than around 30 degrees so manual operation would be required in these cases. In terms of the audible warning level, when we introduce any new car to the UK market we have to homologate the car which means that it has to meet all UK regulations in terms of safety and lighting for example. In terms of indicators, not all drivers may be able to hear an audible warning which is why there also has to be a visual warning on the dashboard alerting the driver to indicator operation and this has to meet homologation legislation. We do not have any plans to change or modify the indicator operation in the Toyota Yaris but it is always useful for us to receive owner feedback. Sorry that the reply cannot be more positive for you and we hope this has helped but but do let us know if you have any further questions.
