  1. I purchased the new Auris Xi 2013 roughly around a year ago. It now has just over 11100 miles on the clock. I love the car, however the rattles and noises on the vehicle has become unbearable:
    * Dash by the air vents and centre rattles uncontrollably( different noises at centre versus vents) when driving on anything but the smoothest possible tarmac
    * Doors have a rattle when the radio is on. If you grip the bar going across the door (that you would grab to close the door) that particular rattle stops. So it is almost as though the plastic is rattling.
    * If the driver window is rolled all the way up, there is a constant rattle at the top of the door.
    * There is a random rattle on the door itself where it meets the top tweeter speaker. Sometimes is reduced if you gently push down on the top of the door. Assume this is the same on the passenger side but hard to gauge.
Inside the seatbelt fittings, there seems to be a constant rattle while driving
    * If the car has been standing in the sun for a while, there is a loud plastic noise when the hatchback is opened. This does not occur when I open it in the morning from my lock up garage.

The car has never driven dirt roads. It does not sleep outside and remains in shaded parking at work with the odd trip to the mall. There should be no cause for this severity in rattle. My fiancé has an old Fiat Palio (2005) and she barely has any noise when she drives! In other words, apart from suspension and road noise, my fiancé has a more pleasurable drive in her car then I do in my much more expensive car.

Is there any type of service Toyota provide to have this looked at? Could there be some kind of factory fault on the vehicle? I cannot believe that this would be the intended experience. One of my colleagues bought a KIA Rio at the same time as my purchase and drive farm roads every week and her car literally does not make a sound when we drive in it. What would the best course of action be here?

    Thank you!

  2. Hi Jannie,

Sorry to hear you’re having some issues with your Auris Xi. Unfortunately, this is not a specification we sell in the UK, so you would be best-placed asking your nearest Toyota dealer in South Africa (I guess that’s where you are, forgive me if I’m wrong) or calling Toyota South Africa customer care on 0800 139 111. I hope that helps.

    Best regards,

    Will

  3. Hi i have just brought a new Auris icon on the 01/09/14 it dose not have satnav and although i have paired our phones with the Bluetooth on the car the sound from the satnav wil not come though the speakers, any ideas would be appreciated we have an iPone 5 and the new Htc Desire 610 .
    Thanks Dave.

    1. Hello Dave
      Thanks for your post.
We have run his past our tech team for you. They have advised that phones do not play the satnav instructions via Bluetooth, the car reads the phone via Bluetooth and detects music files, instructions are not files. Instructions can be played via the vehicle speakers if you use a 3.5 mm jack to connect the vehicle aux socket to the head phone socket on the device.
Hope this helps and let us know if you have any other queries.

  4. HAVING JUST BOUGHT A TOYOTA AURIS EXCEL TOP OF THE RANGE, I AM BEWILDERED AS TO WHY I CANNOT GET VOICE COMMAND FUNCTION. CAN YOU EXPLAIN WHY.

  5. Hello Dennis
    Thanks for your post.
All grades of Auris have the voice recognition button on the steering wheel, however the voice recognition will only work if either Touch & Go + or Touch 2 + satellite navigation systems are fitted in the car. These are the only circumstances in which this feature operates. We hope this helps clarify and if you do have either of these systems and are having problems then your local Toyota dealer will be able to help you with further advice and guidance.
    Hope this helps.

  6. I have just purchased an Auris icon plus sport tourer (sept 14). When driving at night, particularly on unlit roads, the light from the heater control panel is blinding. Does anyone have any idea how to dim the brightness on these lights please? I have already turned down the brightness of the instruments immediately behind the steering wheel but cannot find anything about dimming

  7. I recently bought an Auris Active and rear view is pretty poor.
Is it possible for my Toyota Service agent to fit a rear view camera retrospectively?
    Does the wiring exist ?

  8. Hi Freddie. Thanks for your comment. We ran your question by the technical team and they’ve told us that the wiring is not in place on Active models. Your only option would be to go through a third party on this occasion. Not to worry though as there are plenty of good options out there at a good price!

  9. I have a new Auris Excel with Sat Nav. The map shows the speed limit and it turns red when exceeded. But I simply cannot get an audible alert from it. What do I need to do to make it give me a speed limit exceeded alert?

  10. Hi Jill
Thank you for your post and to be on the safe side we have run this past our technical team.
Not good news unfortunately as they have confirmed that the lighting behind the heater is built to a set specification and cannot therefore be dimmed (as per the main dashboard lights on your car). Even if the lighting behind the heater was replaced, this could only be with exactly the same part as you currently have fitted. Sorry that we are unable to provide a more positive response to your request but if you have any other questions please let us know.
