Toyota is pleased to announce that owners of Corolla and RAV4 models produced since *2019 now have the possibility of an upgrade to their Toyota Touch 2 multimedia system to include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto mobile integration.
Compatible vehicles for Apple CarPlay upgrade:
- MY19 Corolla in all body styles and grades
- MY19 and MY20 RAV4 all grades excluding Icon
This multimedia upgrade allows owners to access the services included in their mobile phone on the multimedia display screen and action them through voice activation or by manually prompting through the steering wheel controls or touchscreen itself. In this way they will be able to safely enjoy applications such as Google Maps, Spotify, Amazon Music, WhatsApp and Waze without the need to directly interact with their mobile phone.
The Apple CarPlay and Android Auto upgrade for compatible vehicles will be carried out by appointment at your local Toyota centre. Toyota recommends that owners arrange to have the upgrade installed during a scheduled service.

* Depending on vehicle and specification, Toyota has installed its enhanced multimedia system as standard equipment since the 2020 model year. This means that vehicles with this system always feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality.
What about my 2021 Prius Prime’s multimedia system? When I could not install Apple CarPlay, I was told that it will not work on my car model and there was no date as to when it would be available, despite the advertisements indicating that it was included as a standard feature in my model? Is there an estimate when it will be available for my 2021 Toyota Prius Prime?

Hi. I bought an approved used Toyota Prius Plug-in (NA70 CZR) in April which was advertised as having Android Auto. Turns out it doesn’t have the feature at all! I’ve also been told there are no plans to update/retrofit the head unit to provide this.
I’ve been researching alternative solutions but found no suitable workaround. I had hoped the head unit could be swapped for the unit in the newer Prius Plug-in model which does have Android Auto, but apparently that also isn’t possible for some reason. Can you confirm there are no possible options to get Android Auto on this car? If it can’t be done, I guess I need to return the vehicle which is a shame (it’s a great car apart from the prehistoric multimedia capabilities). How do I go about returning the vehicle? (The dealer has changed ownership since I purchased the car.)

I purchased a 2018 Toyota Corolla a couple of months ago. I asked the question in the wrong way. My friends have apple car play and so I simply said, can this car communicate with my apple iPhone. yes came answer. It turns out that I was talking about apple car play, the salesman was talking about Toyota me ( which does not reliably work). I am told that it is possible to update my current headset model ID DCU 17TDT2EU-DA01

TO use all the features of CarPlay.The garage is currently offering 2 version of update a) £49.00 b) £140.00. what question must I ask?

Very glad to see that the upgrades are finally here. I have a 2019 Corolla that I absolutely love, but any multimedia SatNav updates have been anything but pleasant and smooth with the outdated USB way, or the clunky OTA installations. I am also disappointed that Toyota decided to charge their customers quite a lot for a software update (when other competitors much less technologically innovative than Toyota are not). This is pretty much a charge on your customers for Toyota coming late into adopting CarPlay, in 2019 almost every other major manufacturer was offering CarPlay and at the time of purchase I was told it would be a software update soon without any mention of additional charges. Expected better from an ethical organisation such as Toyota.

At the time of purchasing your Corolla, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto were not offered for this model and this would have been made clear.
When these features were introduced, a slight pricing increase was introduced to reflect this extra offering. The retrofit is available for the 2019 model at a reasonable price of £50 when undertaken during a service.

Totally agree with your point that this is pretty much a charge to customers for Toyota coming late into adopting CarPlay. I also purchased a Rav4 in 2019 and was told like you that a software update would likely follow without any mention of additional charges. I subsequently received an email advising me that my car was compatible for an upgrade and there was no mention of a fee. I too expected better from Toyota. When I am looking to renew next year I will be looking elsewhere.
