  1. I agree with the others comments. My husband and are both have Toyotas and have been pleased with them.

However, having just part-exchanged an Aygo with a new Toyota with the Touch and Go System we are disappointed, not with the car, but with the satnav. My previous Toyota had an integrated TomTom which was very good and included with the car. Having got used to an integrated satnav asked for the TomTom as an extra in the new car. Upon taking delivery we find that it is not TomTom but a Toyota satnav which costs over £100 a year to keep updated.

Why oh why would I have paid extra for a satnav that costs this much to update? I already had an account with TomTom for my previous Toyota which cost a little over £20 a year to keep updated plus the cost of the speed camera updates on top which again was reasonable. I have the balance of this account paid up which I believed I could transfer to my new car.

I cannot believe firstly I was not told that it was not TomTom and what the cost of the updates would have been, with the correct information I would not have chosen to have this as an extra, particularly as currently you can buy a new stand alone TomTom with lifetime map updates.

I guess TomTom has become a generic name for satnav so when I asked for TomTom the salesman heard satnav.

My husband says we would look elsewhere for our next car which is a shame since until now we had both been happy with both the sales and aftercare of our Toyota dealer.

    1. Thank you for your posts.
We’re currently taking further action to understand the map update policy with our European Head Office.
If you feel you haven’t been provided with the latest Map update at time of vehicle purchase we suggest contacting our Customer Relations team who’ll be able to investigate this further for you: https://mag.toyota.co.uk/how-to-contact-toyota-uk.
We appreciate your feedback, please bear with us as we work on your Toyota Touch & Go Map update queries.
      Many thanks.

  2. If I understand it right from the limited amount of information available from Toyota on these updates, the annual cost is actually not £100 but £218 p.a. with updates scheduled for release, as we have just discovered on this forum, in January and July at a current cost of £109 per update.
Being highly unlikely to motor outside the UK, I’d also like to know just how relevant individual updates are to UK needs: I hardly want to fork out a lot of money for an update that has very little UK content.
One other point, given their high cost and debatable usefulness, is it possible to skip an update or two, or do we have no choice but to buy every update to get uptodate?

  3. Bought an Auris June 2013, with Touch and Go and the dealer did not mention the map update schedule or costs. Done a quick check on the cost of Map updates of other Car Manufactures and find Toyota in the expensive range. I would like to see Toyota adopt the following process for Touch and Go updates.
    1. Separate updates for UK and Europe – I never take my car abroad – reflected in cost
    2. Safety Cameras – separate file with frequent updates
    3. Discount scheme – paying for 12 months updates in advance.

    Many Thanks

    1. Hi Geoff,

      Many thanks and kind regards.

  4. Does anyone know whether the Toyota Touch Life is the same as Toyota Touch? Apparently you can download a Panasonic Application Launcher onto your iphone and use a Garmin satnav app on your dashboard display but it says this is for the Toyota Touch Life. I don’t want to spend over £20 on the Garmin app if it’s not compatible.

    1. Hi David,
Toyota life is compatible with Toyota Touch but not Toyota Touch and Go.
      Hope this helps.

      1. This system is available in the UK but only on the IQ. We passed this over to our technical department to test after watching the video it was noted that it says Panasonic head unit. Once tried and tested it was found to only work with the Panasonic head unit, it also needs a new VTR cable. This system is only compatitible on certain models of IQ. We would like to thank you for bringing this to our attention.

      2. Well I guess it’s fortunate that I didn’t accept your initial reply stating that ‘Toyota Touch Life’ is Compatible with’Toyota Touch’. I know this is a silly follow on question but is there any possibility of Toyota developing a similar app currently available for the ‘Touch Life’ system for the ‘Touch’ System? I class this as a silly question as Toyota can currently fleece their customers for £750 for an upgrade from ‘Touch’ to ‘Touch and Go’ for those wanting Satnav functionality.

      3. You are absolutely right, I was never told anything about upgrade costs etc or that it wasn’t TomTom which I had in my previous Toyota which I part exchanged.

I truly believed I was getting TomTom again with whom I already had an account for which I paid £20 a year for as many updates as they released in a year.

        |It was a complete waste of money having the upgrade to Touch and Go, the Touch system alone would have been fine as I have now purchased a stand alone TomTom with lifetime map updates (at least 4 a year) and camera updates which are done every other week. I purchased this for less than the cost of one Toyota update! The Touch and Go will never be as current as the TomTom even if I were prepared to their extortionate update costs.

Furthermore, one of the additional features supposedly available with the upgrade is no longer available, namely sending a Google map route direct to the system.

It seems odd that I part exchanged my car for the next model up and end up with an inferior satnav to the one that had been in my very basic model.

I love my new car which is everything I wanted but to have spent the money upgrading for the satnav was a total waste of money. Thanks Toyota!!!

      4. Toyota make great cars, reliable and attractive, it’s just a shame that the ownership experience is soured by Toyota GB. I for one have just issued a county court summons against them which I guess sums up my opinion of their competence. It’s a pity Toyota Japan couldn’t ship some of their nationals over to do the job properly!

      5. Hi David,
We’re sorry to hear your experience with Toyota GB hasn’t been satisfactory for you, have you spoken to our Customer Relations team? If you haven’t may we suggest contacting them via: http://bit.ly/bO71f4 as they’ll be able to investigate this for you.

At Toyota we are always developing new systems and improvements to current systems. The touch life was developed by Panasonic for a Panasonic head unit. It is possible that a similar system could be developed by Toyota or our partners for other models. As of yet we have no information regarding the possibility of this system being carried over to other models, so unfortunately we are unable at present to answer this question.

  5. Does anyone know if there is an Android application launcher that would do a similar thing with the Toyota Touch and Go? Would be very interested to know.

    Thanks very much.

    1. Hi Linnett,
Thank you for taking the time to contact us. Unfortunately there isn’t a Android application for the Touch and Go. Hope this helps.

  6. I have a touch and Go in my 2013 avensis TR.
I would like tyo add DAB radio. I am lucky to have 3 Toyota dealers in my area and i asked them for a price to supply and fit a DAB adaptor that would attach to the Touch and Go. One said it would cost £324 to supply and fit a Toyota adaptor but the other 2 said that you cannot add a DAB adaptor as Toyota does not make one. I am now confused. I so like DAB radio.

Can anyone confirm that there is a Toyota DAB adaptor available that fits the Touch and Go system.

  7. I have a brand new Verso and I’m having issue accessing the music menu when using music streaming. When I first connect the phone and go to music streaming I can select ‘Browse’ and access the music menu as it appears on my iphone; Albums, Songs, Artists, Playlists etc… However onceI select to play a song you can’t get back to this menu? If I play something in my podcast menu then I’m stuck in the podcast menu and can’t get back to listen to other menus such as Albums or Artists. The only way to rectify this is either to turn off the ignition or disconnect the phone from Bluetooth and re-engage?

Can anyone help as it drives me nuts!

    1. Hi Andrew,
Thank you for taking the time to contact us. Could you please let us know if your Verso has navigation?
      Many thanks.

    2. Hi Andrew,
Our advice here would be to try deleting the pairing in the phone and the Touch and repairing. We have tried to reproduce this issue but have been unable to do so, and as such will continue to investigate for you.
      Many thanks.

  8. I have a Yaris hybrid 2012 with Touch, I have a problem with playing music via 16g usb flash drive it will play music ok no problem but will not show any album art on the screen, yet if I take the usb flash drive try in another Yaris 2013 Touch and go it plays music and displays album art without any problems, any ideas would be appreciated….regards Andrew ayres

    1. Hi Andrew,
Thank you for taking the time to contact us. Touch doesn’t have the ability to display cover art when using a USB stick.
When “Go” (navigation) is added this takes over the operation of the USB functions and allows the system to display compatible cover art.
      Hope this helps!

  9. I have just bought a 56 reg Yaris. Sorry, I might be a bit dim here, but how do I use the satnav (can’t see the instructions in the handbook)?

    1. Hi Diane,
Great to hear you’re in a Yaris, it’s a fantastic car!
With regards to getting instruction with your satnav, may we recommend you pop into your nearest Toyota Dealer who’ll happily help, otherwise this link may be able to assist: http://ow.ly/o37oO.
      Hope this helps.
