Complicated multimedia systems and the frustrating idiosyncrasies of too much on-board technology can be irritating in cars, but not in the Toyota Auris. It benefits from a host of useful, easy-to-operate features, designed to make things easier for driver and passengers. We’ve rounded-up 11 of our favourites.

1. The Auris reads text messages out…

You talking to me? Receive a text message while you’re driving, and Auris’ Touch 2 multimedia system will read it out to you.

2. …And can send them too!*

Toyota Auris send text through nav

Going to be late to the party? When you’re using navigation, you can send a text to any of your contacts letting them know your ETA using a preset template! How cool is that?

3. The electric windows still work when the engine’s switched-off

Toyota Auris electric windows

Parked-up and the heavens have suddenly opened? When you turn off the engine in an Auris, the electric windows continue to work for 45 seconds if you don’t open the door.

4. The sat nav has Google Street View™

Want to know what your destination actually looks like? Search for it visually using the Street View app, and then set a route by hitting ‘Go’.

5. Live radio can be rewound!

Toyota Auris DAB radio

Missed a beat? When listening to DAB radio, you can rewind live radio using the Time Shift function!

6. The Auris features ‘Follow-Me-Home’ headlights…

Not been eating enough carrots? Fret not! Auris has ‘Follow-Me-Home’ headlights to help guide you to your front door at night. They are are activated by pulling the stalk towards you when the lights are set to AUTO or O mode.

7. …And you can adjust the length of time that they stay on for!

Longer driveway? You can adjust the length of time the ‘Follow Me Home’ headlights remain from the default 30 seconds to 60, 90 or 120.

8. It helps you park

Toyota Auris parking camera

Parking not your forte? When you’re less than 30cm from an obstacle, parking sensors sound continuously.

An Intelligent Park Assist system – fitted as standard to Excel models – makes light work of parallel parking. Activated using a button on the centre console, it uses ultrasonic technology to determine whether a parking space is large enough for the car and then steers the car into the parking space, while the driver controls the accelerator and brake.

9. The window and mirror demisters turn-off automatically

Seeing clearly now? There’s no need to switch off the rear window or mirror demisters as the car will switch them off automatically dependent on time, temperature and speed.

10. The radio can be turned on without your hands leaving the wheel

Toyota Auris Steering Wheel

On song? Turn on the tunes without your hands leaving the wheel – simply press ‘MODE’ on your steering wheel and sing along to your favourite songs.

11. The indicators can be adjusted to suit your needs

Changing lanes? Auris features lane-change indicators. Their default setting is three flashes, but they can be increased to five, seven, or turned off completely.

    1. Hi Andrius,

Thanks for getting in touch. Could you please provide us with a registration number or VIN and we can look into this further for you?

  2. Can i turn off the hybrid system and just use the engine as sometimes i have to wait to pick someone up in the winter but i can’t run the heater as it just blows cold air when the management system detects the engine is warm. Akso i can’t use the csr to jump start another as the engine cant be revved to increase the power output

    1. Hi Lynet,

Thanks for getting in touch. Regarding your cold air query, this may suggest a fault with the system. We would recommend visiting your nearest Toyota Centre to discuss this, as they will be best placed to assess the car. You can find your nearest centre via this link: https://www.toyota.co.uk/forms/forms?tab=pane-dealer

So that we can help you further with your jump start query, could you please provide us with the reg or VIN?

  3. I have an interesting problem on my Toyota Auris Icon 2013, the locks all work perfectly on the remote key, but starting the engine automatically locks the rear hatchback door, and although it can be opened with the remote, its a nuisance, I wondered if there was a simple fix for this? Or have I missed something? Any info would be appreciated!

    1. Hi Wendae,

Thanks for getting in touch. Without being able to assess the car ourselves, we can’t accurately suggest what may be the cause of this. When things are safe to return back to normal, we would recommend contacting your local Toyota centre as they will be able to assess the car and get to the bottom of this issue for you.

  4. How do you turn off seat belt bleeper on toyota auris 2014 petrol vehicle its annoying and I dont have to wear one as a taxi driver whilst carrying fee paying passengers.

    1. Hi G Ahmed,

Thanks for getting in touch with us. Toyota strongly urges that drivers and passengers in the vehicle be properly restrained at all times with the seat belts provided. However, the buzzer function can be customised on certain vehicles within the Auris range using the centre GTS equipment. Therefore we would recommend consulting with your nearest Toyota centre for further advice with this inquiry.

You can find the contact details for your nearest centre, here: https://www.toyota.co.uk/forms/forms?tab=pane-dealer

  5. Hi I have 67 plate auris and when in reverse the camera comes on but as I get close to an object no beeps is that normal I thought it was meant to beep

  6. Hello, the problem seems to be that sometimes when I leave my car, it autolocks and sometimes it doesn’t autolock. I have an Auris 2015. I always have the key on me, it’s not like the key is still in the ignition, and the vehicle is completely empty. I’m just wondering why the autolock feature doesn’t always function.

    1. Hi Juls,
      Thanks for getting in touch.
There are two ways to fold the mirrors on a 2018 Auris. One of these is manually pushing the mirror towards the rear of the vehicle.
The other, if equipped, involves pressing the associated switch to power fold the mirrors. From the information we have, it doesn’t seem as though the Icon Tech grade has this feature, but you should be able to confirm this by checking to see if there is a button for this functionality located next to the L and R switch for adjusting the mirrors.
You can find the owner’s manual for your model here, which will give specific details for your vehicle: https://www.toyota.co.uk/tme#/my-toyota/eManual.

    1. Hi Diane,
Thanks for getting in touch, and congratulations on your new Auris!
Could you please provide us with your UK reg? We can then look into this for you.
