What’s changed for the 2015 Toyota Auris?

We took the wraps off of the extensively revised Toyota Auris at the Geneva Motor Show last week. On sale in the UK later this year, the model benefits from a new engine line-up, a fresh look and a much improved interior.

In this simple, matter-of-fact post, we compare visual differences between outgoing and new.

Up front

The front grille incorporates a floating badge and there are new, more rounded headlights. The bumper has been reshaped and the lower air intake is now longer and wider.

Also good to know

In addition to the visual tweaks that have been applied to the 2015 Auris, the engine line-up has been revised.

A new 114bhp 1.2-litre direct injection turbo petrol engine replaces the outgoing 99bhp 1.33-litre naturally aspirated unit and a BMW-sourced 112bhp 1.6-litre diesel powertrain – first seen in the Verso MPV – appears alongside the existing 90bhp 1.4-litre D-4D engine, which has been overhauled to meet Euro 6 emissions regulations.

Finally, the hybrid powertrain has been tweaked to deliver lower CO2 emissions and better fuel economy.

Prices and specifications for the new Auris will be announced in due course.

  1. The new Auris looks just great and pleased to hear efforts to reduce cabin sound levels have been carried out. I am a comfort guy and notice to get the full comfort options such as rain sensors and chromatic rear view mirror am forced to purchase Excel with existing version which is only offered with awkard size 17 inch tyres.
If full comfort spec could be offered which the more comfy 16 inch wheels using commonly availabe size well priced tyres this would be a big bonus. Thanks for the blog.

    1. Hello Duncan
      Thanks for your post.
We did just double check this with the product team and it is not possible to purchase the Excel grade with the 16″ alloy wheels unfortunately. They do take on board your feedback though about owners preferring more comfort for future consideration (at present the market tends to dictate, the higher the vehicle spec, the larger the alloy wheel). We are glad that you are enjoying the Blog though and are sorry that our reply cannot be more positive on this occasion.

      1. You say that 16 inch tyres are not available on the Auris Hybrid. I have a 65 plated Touring Sport Excel hybrid with 16 Inch tyres. I had asked if this was possible and it was supplied by the dealer without question. Should they have been able to do this and what are the imprecations?

  2. Please can you post a pic of the instrument panel / dials for the icon mark ( ie. Non hybrid) when available.

Quieter travel compartment will be a plus.

I feel my sixth Corolla / Auris coming on soon. Thanks for the heads up.

  3. Thanks David for quick reply.
If 16 inch wheels cannot be offered on Excel then an alternative solution would be to consider offering rain sensor and auto rear view mirror on the Icon Plus.
I would then be a serious potential purchaser of an Icon Plus 2015 Auris.

  4. Hi Duncan
Thanks for your post and for your interest in the new Toyota Auris.
We did run this query past the product team, but at the moment specification details are being finalised. We should be able to confirm very soon as we are planning to open the order books on the new model in early July (deliveries from Sept/Oct). We have made them aware of your comments and will be sure to post the full specification details on our Blog as soon as we receive them.

  5. Hello Bruce
Thanks for your post and for your loyal support of the Toyota brand.
We do appreciate your interest in the new Toyota Auris and we hope to have interior pictures very soon for the range. We are looking at order books opening at the beginning of July with deliveries from Sept/Oct. We will be sure to post on our Blog as soon as we receive this information.

  6. So regarding the DPF regeneration for the Maltese island since we are a small country and from what I have read that if I drive for at least 10 minutes at around 70km/h does the regeneration process occurs ? Because I am looking forward for the new Auris with a 1.6 diesel since the 1.4 diesel I find it small for such a body. And the brochure will be available on the website in July ?

    Thanks

    1. Hi Marco. Thanks for your post. Yes, that speed and time sounds about right. For more info about the new Auris, please contact Toyota in your region. Thanks.

  7. I am just about to order a new Icon Plus, looking towards an early September delivery. Will this be the up dated version, or the current one?

    1. Hello Jay
      Thanks for your post.
If you were to order and Auris today then you would receive the current generation model not the new model. We are looking to open the order books on the new model some time in July. We would recommend that you speak to your dealer about this as they can keep in contact with you and let you know as soon as the new orders can be placed. We would also be expecting deliveries from September. Hope this helps but let us know if you have any other questions.

  8. Hi David,
My company’s lease company (Venson Automotive) recently informed me that due to the new model being launched, my order of a new vehicle wouldn’t be delivered until September, but it would at least be the new model. Whilst this means waiting longer than I’d hoped, the benefit was to be that it was the new, updated version. However, today I received an email from Venson to inform me that my order has been processed and the estimated delivery date of my 2014 Hybrid TS Icon Plus is September 14th. The colour on the order is as per the old model which I originally specified and the interior fabric listed is Yamato Silver (I was assuming the exterior and interior colours would be different in the new model). All this leads me to suspect that the car the lease company is talking about is the old model.
Have lease companies been able to place their orders already, or, I am correct to fear that they have ordered the current model? (Although would a car being delivered in September inevitably be the new version?)
I’m hoping you might be able to shed some light for me!
    Many thanks.

    1. Hello Matt
Thanks for your reply and good to hear about your new Auris.
As the order books for the new model do not open until July, any order placed at the moment would be the current generation model. Also, the grade Icon Plus is current generation only. Hope this helps clarify for you but any other questions please let us know.

  9. Hi,

Any ideas on the colours that will be available? I do quite like the blue, but without seeing it I’m unsure.
Otherwise it will be the Eclipse black. Company have said they will order next month for September delivery to ensure I get the new model. 🙂

    1. Hi Christine, thanks for taking the time to contact us. It’s great to hear you’re interested in the new Auris! We recommend keeping an eye on the Toyota blog as Auris pricing and specification (available colours) will be released over the coming weeks.

      1. Hi Kerry,

Just looked on the website and it appears you are not doing the sky blue in the UK as per the colour on the Geneva model? There is a Denim blue but this looks darker? Is that correct?

        Thanks
        Christine

      2. Hi Christine, thanks for the question. The Auris will be available in two shades of blue: Denim Blue and Orion Blue. So no Sky Blue I’m afraid.

  10. Thanks David.
I heard from the lease company today that they have joined a ‘pre-order’ queue with my order, and that I will definitely be receiving the new model when it arrives, hopefully in September. The provisional order placed is for an ‘Icon Plus’ hybrid in Eclipse Black, but it seems they will update it once they know what the new spec is. I’m hoping there might be a white metallic…
Is there likely to be a launch date announced for July or should I just keep checking back?
    Thanks.

    1. Hello Matt
      Thanks for your reply.
Once the order books open then your lease company will be able to advise you on the comparable specification to Icon Plus (there are likely to be changes so do check this). With regard to colours, the white pearl paint will be available on the new model (as per the current model) and this does have a metallic/pearlescent effect. This is a popular colour on several models and you may be able to see one on a dealer forecourt. With regard to the launch date we are expecting the order books to open within the first two weeks of July but please feel free to keep in touch.

    2. Hi,
I do not live in the UK, but we are getting the Auris in in the form of the Scion iM in the US. Could someone physically measure the driver and passenger seat cushion height from the ground?
      Thanks!

      1. Hi Sean
Thanks for your post and for your interest in the Auris.
We would normally be happy to help but due to the variation of car specifications across the world, we would recommend that you speak to Toyota in the US about this. Different seat designs can mean different seat heights. Here is the link for Toyota US http://www.toyota.com/
        Hope this helps.
