Every Toyota in the UK, old or new, purchased outside of or in a Toyota dealer, is eligible to be covered up to ten years or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first) of Toyota warranty. This is provided through an initial three-year manufacturer warranty followed by up to seven years of service-activated warranty. Terms and conditions apply and can be read here.
For the first three years of your new car’s life, the manufacturer warranty is in place and an owner can have the car serviced wherever they choose. After the expiry of the manufacturer warranty, owners who choose to have their Toyota serviced at an official Toyota centre will benefit from an additional 12 months (or 10,000 miles) of warranty, until your car is either ten years old or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first).
The combination of manufacturer warranty and service-activated warranty means Toyota owners can access Toyota warranty of up to 10 years (or 100,000 miles), giving them a chance to relax in the knowledge that they and their vehicle are in safe hands.
The warranty applies to every type of powertrain, from market-leading hybrids and conventional petrol and diesel models to advanced new battery electric vehicles.
Here we answer key questions about the Toyota warranty programme. If you require further information, please let us know in the comments below and we will do our best to answer your queries.
How do I get the Toyota warranty?
From 1 June 2021, all new Toyota vehicles have been sold with a three-year (or 60,000-mile) manufacturer warranty as standard. Following that initial period, Toyota provides a 12-month (or 10,000-mile) warranty with every qualifying service at an official Toyota centre, for up to an additional seven years.
There are no complex formalities. The Toyota warranty is automatically activated on the completion of a scheduled full or interim qualifying service at an official Toyota centre. By keeping to their vehicle’s service schedule, customers can benefit from an extra 12 months (or 10,000 miles) of warranty, year after year, until the ten year or 100,000-mile limit is reached.
How does the Toyota warranty work?
The warranty operates in the same way as the warranties provided on new and approved used Toyota vehicles. Cover is automatic when the vehicle undergoes a scheduled full or interim qualifying service and effective from that date for 12 months or 10,000 miles – whichever is soonest. On vehicles that have service intervals every two years, the cover is for 24 months or 20,000 miles.
There are no forms to sign to obtain the warranty cover and the customer does not have to keep or present any policy documents should they need to make a claim. The warranty status of their vehicle is recorded in the details of their vehicle held by the Toyota network and is noted on the service invoice raised by the centre.
This central record means that a vehicle’s warranty will be recognised at any official Toyota centre, should customers move or choose to have their car serviced at a different approved location.
Following completion of a service where their vehicle qualifies for the warranty, customers will be sent a confirmation email by their centre (subject to them providing an email address for contact).
If a vehicle requires work to be done under warranty, the customer contacts their local Toyota centre in the first instance. They will be able to confirm the warranty status on receiving details of the vehicle.
Which cars are eligible for the new Toyota warranty?
It’s a comprehensive programme that applies to all Toyota passenger cars, Toyota Professional light commercial vans and pick-ups and the latest Toyota GR performance models.
Likewise, there are no exclusions where powertrains are concerned, with the same level of cover provided for hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery electric vehicles and the Mirai hydrogen fuel cell saloon, as well as for models with petrol and diesel internal combustion engines.
Eligible vehicles range from cars just completing the period of their new vehicle warranty, to high-mileage models that have passed through multiple ownerships and have no prior Toyota service history.
What’s covered and what’s not covered?
This new Toyota warranty covers the same parts and labour as the three-year manufacturer’s warranty provided on new Toyota vehicles and the one-year manufacturer warranty that’s standard with approved used vehicles.
It does not include wear and tear items, bodywork, paint, interior trims and maintenance parts. A vehicle health check is part of the service package, which includes all mechanical and electronic parts, which helps potential problems to be detected at an early stage. Any existing defects present at the time of service are excluded from the warranty.
Full terms and conditions can be downloaded from toyota.co.uk.
Although the warranty cover is uniform, different types of vehicle owner will have a different customer experience:
New Toyota vehicles
Customers with new Toyota vehicles will have a three-year/60,000-mile manufacturer’s warranty in place, or, for Toyotas ordered prior to 1 June 2021, a five-year/100,000-mile warranty.
After the expiry of the manufacturer warranty, owners who choose to have a qualifying service at an official Toyota centre will benefit from an additional 12 months (or 10,000 miles) of warranty, until your car is either ten years old or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first).
For vehicles with a two-year service schedule, a 24-month/20,000-mile warranty will automatically be activated. The warranty will then be renewed at each successive qualifying service at an official Toyota centre, until the ten years or 100,000-mile limit is reached.
Approved used Toyota vehicles
Customers with approved used vehicles purchased from the Toyota network will have a 12-month warranty with unlimited mileage, plus one year’s AA roadside assistance cover providing breakdown and recovery services at the customer’s home or roadside.
After the expiry of the manufacturer warranty, owners who choose to have their Toyota serviced at an official Toyota centre will benefit from an additional 12 months (or 10,000 miles) of warranty, until your car is either ten years old or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first).
Used Toyota vehicles
Customers with used vehicles purchased outside the Toyota network can still enjoy the same benefit. Cars registered prior to 1 June 2021 came with a five-year manufacturer warranty. Cars registered after 1 June 2021 carry a three-year manufacturer’s warranty. When those manufacturer’s warranties have expired, the cars automatically qualifies for the Toyota warranty, when it undergoes a qualifying service at a Toyota centre, up until the vehicle is ten years old or reaches the 100,000-mile limit.
‘Lapsed’ and new customers
Lapsed and new customers who have previously chosen to have their vehicle serviced outside the Toyota network can also take advantage of the warranty. There is no requirement for a vehicle to have a history of servicing at an official centre in order to qualify for the warranty; it will be applied from the date the vehicle undergoes a qualifying service at an approved Toyota centre.
Toyota customers with service plans
Customers who have a service plan for their vehicle face no additional costs or changes to the terms of their plan. The warranty will be an additional, added-value benefit when they next undergo a qualifying service .
Toyota warranty and hybrid vehicles
For customers with hybrid vehicles, the Hybrid Health Check forms part of the scheduled servicing. The warranty includes cover for the hybrid battery and components for up to 10 years/100,000 miles. After this time, customers can still extend the cover for up to 15 years with a stand-alone scheduled Hybrid Health Check.
What happens if I take my car to a different Toyota centre for service? How do I prove there is an active Toyota warranty on my vehicle from another centre?
All Toyota centres will be able to access all active warranty contracts. Any necessary warranty work can also be undertaken at any official Toyota dealer.
If I bought a used Toyota, how can I find out if there is an active warranty on it?
Centres will be able to confirm this and can advise on the details and terms of the cover.
How is the Toyota warranty activated?
If the vehicle is eligible, warranty activation is processed automatically by Toyota. The customer doesn’t have do anything.
What does the Toyota warranty cover?
The warranty provides the same cover as the manufacturer’s warranty. Likewise, it does not cover wear and tear items. Full terms and conditions are provided at toyota.co.uk. Local centres will also provide information.
What is the process for making a warranty claim?
If a vehicle requires work under warranty, customers should contact their local centre for advice and make a booking for the necessary repairs to be made.
I have purchased a vehicle with a three-year manufacturer’s warranty. When does it become eligible for the Toyota warranty?
Vehicles purchased on or after 1 June 2021 are covered by a manufacturer’s warranty for three years. The additional warranty benefit can be enjoyed following a qualifying service when the warranty expires, by having the car serviced at an approved Toyota centre.
I have a three-year-old Toyota with an active five-year warranty. Will the Toyota warranty affect this cover?
Vehicles purchased on or after 1 June 2021 are covered by a manufacturer’s warranty for three years. The additional warranty benefit can be enjoyed following a qualifying service when the warranty expires, by having the car serviced at an approved Toyota centre.
I recently purchased a used car from a Toyota centre. When will it be eligible for the Toyota warranty?
Used cars purchased through the centre network are covered by a 12 months/unlimited mileage warranty. Toyota warranty benefits can be enjoyed when the car is brought in for its next scheduled service.
I already have an extended warranty. Can I swap onto this warranty you’re describing here?
Yes, you can cancel a Toyota extended warranty policy and receive a pro-rata refund, provided you haven’t made a claim. Once that is cancelled, you’ll then need to have a qualifying service to activate the new warranty. It may be better to wait until your next service is due! If you purchased an extended warranty through a Toyota centre, the terms and conditions for cancellation may be different.
Can I purchase the Toyota warranty?
No, the warranty is automatically activated following the completion of a full or interim service.
Does the warranty apply to light commercial vehicles and business vehicles?
Yes, it applies to all Toyota vehicles.
Is a Hybrid Health Check still available to extend my Toyota vehicle’s hybrid battery cover?
The Hybrid Health Check is included as part of the service on vehicles less than 10 years old or having less than 100,000 miles on the clock. When a Toyota warranty contract is activated, it will include the hybrid battery cover. When the vehicle is no longer eligible for the 10 year/100,000 mile warranty, extended warranty cover on the hybrid battery and components can be accessed through a stand-alone Hybrid Health Check, up to the vehicle reaching 15 years from the date of first registration.
My vehicle’s service schedule is every two years? How does this affect the warranty?
Where scheduled maintenance is every two years, a warranty contract will automatically be activated and cover the vehicle for two years/20,000 miles until the next qualifying service is due.
Will I receive confirmation that my vehicle is covered by the Toyota warranty?
Centres will advise customers if their vehicle is eligible for the Toyota warranty. When a qualifying service has been completed and the warranty contract has been active, customers will receive a follow-up email. Further questions arising can be answered by the centre which looks after your vehicle.
Does the introduction of the Toyota warranty affect the service plan I’ve purchased for my vehicle?
Customers with a service plan now get more for their money when their vehicle is eligible for a warranty, receiving an extra year’s warranty for their vehicle when it undergoes a qualifying service, up to 10 years or 100,000 miles.
If my vehicle is nine years and 364 days old on the day of service, will a Toyota warranty contract be activated and will it expire the next day?
A full contract will be activated every time an eligible vehicle undergoes a qualifying service. In this example the vehicle will be covered until one day before the 11th anniversary of its first date of registration.
Can I transfer the Toyota warranty to a new owner if I sell my vehicle?
If a vehicle is sold, the new owner inherits the benefits and can continue to extend the warranty by maintaining it at a Toyota centre. The warranty cover applies only to the serviced vehicle and cannot be transferred to another vehicle.
Will the Toyota warranty cover expire if I am late booking my vehicle’s next service?
The vehicle must be serviced before the warranty expires to activate a new contract and maintain the cover. Local centres can provide further advice and help book your next qualifying service.
I own a GR Yaris with a GR Yaris Track Warranty. If I drive my car on track, will this affect my Toyota warranty cover?
Driving the GR Yaris on track would not invalidate the warranty, but terms and conditions still apply. The vehicle can be covered by both the track and Toyota warranties.
The warranty cover on my approved used Toyota includes one year’s AA roadside assistance cover. Is this available with the Toyota warranty?
Roadside cover is not included in the Toyota or Lexus warranty but can be purchased separately if required. The warranty is exceptional value, being provided at no extra cost to the customer beyond the menu pricing of their vehicle’s service.
Are there other benefits to using Toyota centres?
In addition to the warranty, servicing at a Toyota centre provides other significant benefits to customers. Work is carried out by qualified Toyota technicians, using Toyota-approved parts to ensure optimum performance.
Workshop teams are fully equipped and trained work on all the technologies featured in Toyota vehicles, including electrified powertrains and advanced handling and safety systems. Pricing is transparent with a service menu price guarantee for the scheduled servicing requirements for each model.
Toyota customer-focused approach includes an online service booking facility at the customer’s preferred centre. Centres will also make servicing as convenient as possible, with collection and delivery, courtesy cars and while-you-wait servicing options.

Hi there.
I bought a Yaris from Toyota Nottingham in August 2022. It was serviced before I bought it, so has a years warranty with it, including breakdown and MOT cover. If I was to sell it, is it possible to transfer that to the next owner?
Many thanks in advance of your reply
Hi Arron, thanks for your question.
If a vehicle is sold, the new owner inherits the benefits and can continue to extend the warranty by maintaining it at a Toyota centre. The warranty cover applies only to the serviced vehicle and cannot be transferred to another vehicle.
Thanks.
Hello
I have a used toyota aygo 2015 65 plate am I still covered and within 10yr warranty period.
Hi, thanks for your comment.
Please provide your Vehicle Registration so that we can look into this.
Thanks.
I am looking at purchasing a Toyota gorilla sports tourer 71 plate from and Arnold Clark garage. Is this Toyota approved? I understand the 3 year warranty will be transferred with the car. Are annual services a requirement within the 3 year warranty? Should I expect to see documents showing one service completed on this vehicle?
Hi Eileen, thanks for your question.
You can see our Toyota Used and Approved Cars here: https://www.toyota.co.uk/used-cars.
Customers with approved used vehicles purchased from the Toyota network will have a 12-month warranty with unlimited mileage, plus one year’s AA roadside assistance cover providing breakdown and recovery services at the customer’s home or roadside.
Thanks.
I own a 15-plate Toyota Auris Hybrid Touring Sports which will likely reach 100,000 miles by late 2023 / early 2024. It is abundantly clear that I will no longer be eligible for the 10 year / 100,000 mile warranty as I will have exceeded the mileage, but it is not clear to me if I will be able to continue to extend the Hybrid Battery Cover by 1 year / 10,000 miles once I exceed 100,000 miles – please can you clarify?
Hi Ben, thanks for your question.
The Hybrid Battery Cover runs to 15 years, so if your vehicle meets the conditions then this can be stand alone without the warranty.
Thanks.
What conditions does my vehicle need to meet?
Hi Ben,
The full terms and conditions can be found here – https://www.toyota.co.uk/content/dam/toyota/nmsc/united-kingdom/owners/warranty/toyota-warranty/Toyota%20Hybrid%20Battery%20Extended%20Cover%20Terms_tcm-3060-1563365.pdf.
Thanks.
My wife owns a 2016 Yaris (manual gearbox) which had to be towed into a dealership when, on starting the car the clutch pedal it went flat to the floor with no resistance.
The subsequent diagnosis showed that the hydraulic slave cylinder had leaked into the Clutch/Gearbox unit. Up until 2022 the car was serviced under an annual service contract paid monthly which expired at the end of 2021. This year the car was serviced at the dealership, and was paid for in full at the time. The dealership stated that this repair was not covered by your extended warranty, and the repair was billed to her. Under the published terms of your extended warranty, would this have been covered if she had continued with the Annual Service Contract.
Hi Rod,
Thanks for your comment.
What is covered in the extended warranty is not affected whether or not you have an annual service contract.
We hope this helps.
Thanks.
Hi,
I purchased a used approved Aygo in May 2022. Is it correct that the car has the used approved warranty which is different to the additional warranty? And if so, where can I find the terms and conditions for used approved warranty as I am unable to find this anywhere online.
Thanks
Hi Paul, thanks for your comment.
We hope you are enjoying your Aygo.
If your Approved Used car is under 10 years old / 100,000 miles you can get a Toyota warranty. This is provided through an initial manufacturer warranty from the vehicle’s registration date, followed by an additional 12 months / 10,000 miles warranty with every service. You can find more on this here: https://www.toyota.co.uk/used-cars/benefits.
Thanks.
Does the warranty cover leak’s? I’ve just noticed a drip coming from the roof or door seal. It’s splashing on the window controls.
Hi Dan, thanks for your question.
We would suggest contacting your Toyota Centre to get this checked.
Thanks.
I have recently had my RAV 4 serviced at a Toyota Main Dealer and was told that the vehicle now has a warranty for 12mths that is transferable if I was to sell the car.
Reading your criteria for this cover I didnt think that my car met what was required how could I confirm that my car has this cover.
Hi David, thanks for your question.
We would recommend contacting your Toyota Centre to confirm that your vehicle is eligible for Toyota Warranty.
Thanks.
Hello,
For a used toyota car registered in 2020, does it come with 5 years/ 100,000 miles manufacturer warranty ? For the manufacturer warranty, do i have to service my car at toyota before a warranty repair can be performed ? Is the service free within the manufacturer warranty period ? After that, I could extend a year of additional warranty by having the car serviced at toyota center , is that correct ?
Hi, thanks for your questions.
Customers with approved used vehicles purchased from the Toyota network will have a 12-month warranty with unlimited mileage. After the expiry of the manufacturer warranty, owners who choose to have their Toyota serviced at an official Toyota centre will benefit from an additional 12 months (or 10,000 miles) of warranty, until your car is either ten years old or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first).
Is your vehicle a Used and Approved Toyota?
In answer to your second question, if a vehicle requires work under warranty, customers should contact their local centre for advice and make a booking for the necessary repairs to be made. The cost of this will be covered under your warranty.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.
if i buy a car from other dealers, but it is registered in 2020, does it still have warranty til 2025 ?
Within the manufacturer warranty period, do i have to pay for the service ( yearly check )?
Hi, thanks for your question.
Please provide your Vehicle Registration so that we can look into this for you.
Thanks.
The vehicle registration is LM20NVN
Hi,
The Manufacturers’ Warranty on this vehicle expires on 30.06.2023. However, the additional warranty expires on 29.06.2025.
In regards to your second question, you are still required to pay for services.
Thanks.
Hi
I have an Aygo X which I purchased in May 2022. The windscreen washer pump is not working, is this covered in my warranty? There has been services done to the vehicle as it is less than a year old.
Lee
Hi Lee, thanks for your question.
We would advise contacting your Toyota Centre regarding this, as they will be able to inspect the fault.
Thanks.
Hi, may i check if my car still under Toyota warranty? The vehicle registration is MM65YDW. The current mileage is around 11500. The last service date is 22.12.2021. If I want to activate the warranty every year, when will be my last day to have service from toyota? Thank you.
Hi Rena, thanks for your question.
Every new Toyota comes with a 3 year manufacturer warranty followed by a 12 months / 10,000 miles additional warranty (whichever comes first), with every qualifying service. If your last service was over a year ago, we would recommend contacting your Toyota Centre to see if your car needs another service. You are eligible for the additional warranty until year car reaches 10 years or 100,000 miles.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.
