Toyota is pleased to announce that owners of Corolla and RAV4 models produced since *2019 now have the possibility of an upgrade to their Toyota Touch 2 multimedia system to include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto mobile integration.

Compatible vehicles for Apple CarPlay upgrade:

  • MY19 Corolla in all body styles and grades
  • MY19 and MY20 RAV4 all grades excluding Icon

This multimedia upgrade allows owners to access the services included in their mobile phone on the multimedia display screen and action them through voice activation or by manually prompting through the steering wheel controls or touchscreen itself. In this way they will be able to safely enjoy applications such as Google Maps, Spotify, Amazon Music, WhatsApp and Waze without the need to directly interact with their mobile phone.

The Apple CarPlay and Android Auto upgrade for compatible vehicles will be carried out by appointment at your local Toyota centre. Toyota recommends that owners arrange to have the upgrade installed during a scheduled service.

Please contact your centre for more information and to confirm compatibility.

* Depending on vehicle and specification, Toyota has installed its enhanced multimedia system as standard equipment since the 2020 model year. This means that vehicles with this system always feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality.

    I’ve just been to my local Toyota service shop to get the update. After waiting for 4 hours or so they gave me a call to tell me that the system crashed during the update and they have to now order in a new head unit as a replacement. Apparently this happens 1 in 10 upgrades?!

    Currently I am without an infotainment system, no sat nav and no reverse camera! The people there can’t tell me how long this replacement unit is going to take. Does this sound normal to you or has this particular service shop messed up big time?

    If this is indeed a regular occurrence with Android auto updates then you should warn customers as this is wasting my time And I would have not updated at all!

  2. Dear Toyota UK,

    I am glad this Apple CarPlay upgrade is available. I am intending to buy a 2019 (19reg) Corolla Hybrid (Approved Used) and have CarPlay fitted.

    However, after viewing the car, I was informed by the dealer that this fitting will cost £700. I would like to clarify the actual cost of the upgrade, since there is a major discrepancy (£50 vs £700)

    Is my 2019 RAV4 Excel (WH19DXA) compatible with this Android Auto upgrade and will it still be available when my next service is due in mid 2023?

      The multimedia system in your RAV4 is not compatible with the Android Auto system so retrofit is not possible.

  4. Hi

    I am in the process of purchasing a Gt86 Blue edition, from 2019. Reg HJ19DVN

    This has the Nav system, would this be compatible with the upgrade please?
