Toyota Apple CarPlay and Android Auto upgrade

Toyota Apple Carplay

Toyota is pleased to announce that owners of Corolla and RAV4 models produced since *2019 now have the possibility of an upgrade to their Toyota Touch 2 multimedia system to include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto mobile integration.

Compatible vehicles for Apple CarPlay upgrade:

  • MY19 Corolla in all body styles and grades
  • MY19 and MY20 RAV4 all grades excluding Icon

This multimedia upgrade allows owners to access the services included in their mobile phone on the multimedia display screen and action them through voice activation or by manually prompting through the steering wheel controls or touchscreen itself. In this way they will be able to safely enjoy applications such as Google Maps, Spotify, Amazon Music, WhatsApp and Waze without the need to directly interact with their mobile phone.

The Apple CarPlay and Android Auto upgrade for compatible vehicles will be carried out by appointment at your local Toyota centre. Toyota recommends that owners arrange to have the upgrade installed during a scheduled service.

Please contact your centre for more information and to confirm compatibility.

* Depending on vehicle and specification, Toyota has installed its enhanced multimedia system as standard equipment since the 2020 model year. This means that vehicles with this system always feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality.

    1. Hi Frances, thanks for your comment.

The multimedia system on your Toyota C-HR is incompatible with the Apple CarPlay software so retrofit is not available.

      Thanks,

  4. I was quoted 289£ to install Car Play in my Toyota Corolla Estate 2019.
A mandatory MAP update was included for 190£ and the CarPlay upgrade for 99£.

Could you please clarify if I was misquoted?

    1. Hi Sebastian,

      1. Hi Toyota team,
there are a few more items. I have now received the yearly inspection report in full and see that CarPlay was annotated with the following bit of information:
Customer request apple car play retro fitment, please note a license Map key needs to be ordered additional price also additional fee to update car play software with risk the unit in rare case could be wiped rendering display unit unusable which Toyota will not cover.

I am without words. This is from an official Toyota dealer in Newport, Wales. I bought a used Toyota from an official source and could be charged an additional amount with the risk of bricking the entire unit. This is unacceptable for me, so I would kindly request someone to get in touch with the contact details. Additionally, this should be a clear information for anyone considering to purchase a used Toyota car, as the risk of bricking the display is also present.

      2. Hello Sebastian,
Thank you for your reply. We are sorry to hear about this.
Our Customer Relations team would be best placed to investigate this further.
You can contact them by emailing cr@toyota.co.uk or calling 0344 701 6202.
        Thank you.
