How to connect your phone to your Toyota

The multimedia system in your Toyota includes Bluetooth so you can connect your phone to safely make hands-free calls, and to stream music or podcasts. Additionally, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto – which are now available in many Toyota vehicles – put the best features of your smartphone directly on your Toyota’s touchscreen display.

Please check with your local dealer to ensure this functionality is available in your chosen Toyota model.

The short films below show you how to connect your phone to your Toyota by pairing it via Bluetooth. Continuing reading for an overview of the process, or click the link to see it in your specific Toyota.

How to connect your phone using Bluetooth

The straightforward process begins by turning on Bluetooth on your smartphone and putting it in pairing mode.

In the car, press the ‘Phone’ button on the steering wheel or ‘Register phone’ on the touchscreen. In some models, you may have to select the ‘Phone’ option from the touchscreen menu too. If you are prompted to register a Bluetooth device, select ‘Yes’ or ‘Add’ on the touchscreen display. Allow up to 30 seconds for a list of available Bluetooth devices to appear on the screen.

Choose your phone from the list by selecting it on the touchscreen. Accept the pairing prompt on your phone if required – just check that the numbers displayed on both screens match. On some models, you may have to select ‘OK’ on the touchscreen once the connection is complete.

That’s it – your phone is registered and connected to your Toyota. Now you can wirelessly stream music and podcasts and safely make hands-free calls.

Using Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto enable you to use your Toyota’s touchscreen display to access features directly on your phone. This uses a wired connection using your normal charging cable.

Begin by inserting your normal charging cable into your phone and your Toyota’s USB socket. Your Toyota’s touchscreen display will prompt you to enable Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Press the appropriate button on the touchscreen to confirm the connection. Next, your Toyota’s display will show compatible app icons. Simply press the app icon on the screen to access it.

  1. We just got a new Toyota 2023 EV BZ4X Limited plus a new iphone 14. What connecting cable should we use to connect the phone to the car to enable Apple car play?

    1. Hi Mark, thanks for your question.

      Congratulations on your Toyota purchase!

You can connect your iPhone 14 using a USB-Lightning cable, by plugging it into the USB data port.

      Hope this helps.

      Thanks.

    1. Hi Harriet, thanks for your comment.

To enable Apple CarPlay, this requires a wired connection using your normal charging cable.

If you’re still experiencing difficulties with set-up, we recommend contacting the Connectivity Team. They can be found here: https://www.toyota.co.uk/help-centre/connectivity

  3. I have a new yaris cross registered Sept 2022.
I don’t want to use android auto I want to use the voice recognition button on the steering wheel to change radio channel make a phone call turn down the volume etc etc just like I did on my previous chr and my corolla. My phone is connected via Bluetooth for calls and audio but pressing the VR button achieves absolutely nothing. Is there something I’m missing, my dealer doesn’t know the answer they said use android auto which I don’t want to do.

      1. Ta for that, I go to that link and click on the contact us button which then comes up with a contact form which disappears after a couple of seconds.

      2. As per my previous comment, the link you’ve sent is exactly the same as the previous link with of course the same result . It doesn’t work , it disappears after a second or two using Samsung phone or Samsung tablet

  6. Hello, I have just picked up my 2023 Corolla. Android Auto works well when connected via USB, however I don’t get prompted to set up the wireless connection and cannot find a way to do this manually. Can you confirm if wireless Android Auto is supported please and if so, how to enable it? Thank you.

    1. Hi Charles, thanks for getting in contact.

Currently, all vehicles other than some variations of the Toyota GR Supra that are fitted with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay require wired connection.

      Hope this helps.

      Thanks.

  7. Hiya I have an aygo x-cite. I can use the maps option from the car itself, as it was updated, but when I plug the usb into the phone and try to use maps from my phone, it just constantly says “open app” … this happens on my google maps and Apple Maps, so I’m just sure how to get it to connect to the route my phone takes me. Thank you.

  8. Hi there,
