How to connect your phone to your Toyota

The multimedia system in your Toyota includes Bluetooth so you can connect your phone to safely make hands-free calls, and to stream music or podcasts. Additionally, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto – which are now available in many Toyota vehicles – put the best features of your smartphone directly on your Toyota’s touchscreen display.

Please check with your local dealer to ensure this functionality is available in your chosen Toyota model.

The short films below show you how to connect your phone to your Toyota by pairing it via Bluetooth. Continuing reading for an overview of the process, or click the link to see it in your specific Toyota.

How to connect your phone using Bluetooth

The straightforward process begins by turning on Bluetooth on your smartphone and putting it in pairing mode.

In the car, press the ‘Phone’ button on the steering wheel or ‘Register phone’ on the touchscreen. In some models, you may have to select the ‘Phone’ option from the touchscreen menu too. If you are prompted to register a Bluetooth device, select ‘Yes’ or ‘Add’ on the touchscreen display. Allow up to 30 seconds for a list of available Bluetooth devices to appear on the screen.

Choose your phone from the list by selecting it on the touchscreen. Accept the pairing prompt on your phone if required – just check that the numbers displayed on both screens match. On some models, you may have to select ‘OK’ on the touchscreen once the connection is complete.

That’s it – your phone is registered and connected to your Toyota. Now you can wirelessly stream music and podcasts and safely make hands-free calls.

Using Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto enable you to use your Toyota’s touchscreen display to access features directly on your phone. This uses a wired connection using your normal charging cable.

Begin by inserting your normal charging cable into your phone and your Toyota’s USB socket. Your Toyota’s touchscreen display will prompt you to enable Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Press the appropriate button on the touchscreen to confirm the connection. Next, your Toyota’s display will show compatible app icons. Simply press the app icon on the screen to access it.

  1. I have a new 2021 RAV4. I’ve connected my iPhone and got connectivity working. However, the handbook advises connecting to my.toyota.eu to set up various things, including Coyote. The website seems no longer to exist. I’ve downloaded the Coyote App in the car via wifi but the app requires the setting up a Coyote account at my.toyota.eu, which doesn’t seem to be possible.

Any suggestions how to do this please?

    1. Hi Mike,
Thanks both for your comment and your patience whilst we’ve looked into this for you. Congratulations also on your new vehicle!
There should be an installation guide on the website. This can be found by selecting the app (please make sure that this is the correct version of the app) on the eStore and clicking the ‘help’ section.
If you run into further difficulties, our specialist multimedia team will be best placed to assist you further. They can be contacted here: https://fal.cn/3eeaN.

    1. Hi Karthi,
Thanks for getting in touch with us. This depends on which derivative of the RAV4 you are referring to.
The RAV4 Hybrid does not come with wireless phone charging on any grade.
However, the RAV4 Plug-In does offer a wireless mobile phone charger for the Dynamic and Dynamic Premium grades.
      Thanks.

  3. Hi, just bought 2021 Yards. Phone paired and Android Auto working, but My T app won’t connect. The dealership can’t do it either . There are no maps on the multimedia so I can’t press the Nav settings button as there isn’t one. The dealer might be still looking into it, but it’s been a week. Any ideas?

  6. Hello
My 2019 Toyota rav4, doesn’t have android auto. Can this be upgraded to work please?

    1. Hello Loannis, thanks for your comment.

We will need to double-check the compatibility of your RAV4. It must be the latest generation model and not the Icon grade. What is your registration number please?

We also have a query, whats the heads up part which comes up sometimes then goes others, with a white car in a blue square. Can’t find it in manual

    1. Hi Roger,

Sorry to hear that. We’re not familiar with the icon from your description. If you can send us a picture by private message on the Toyota UK Facebook page, we hope we can help.

      Thanks

  9. Hi, I just bought a Toyota aygo 2017 and the Bluetooth works fine connected to my phone but android auto is just not working. Can you pls help as I have tried everything but its just not working. Thank you in advance

    1. Hi Zsuzsa,
Thanks for your comment, and congratulations on your Aygo!
Android Auto requires a wired USB connection, so we would recommend trying this if you haven’t already. You will also have to download the Android Auto app and follow the steps in your Owner’s Manual.
If this doesn’t work, please can you provide us with your UK reg? We can then look into this for you.
      Thanks.
