Our multi-award-winning compact SUV has been gently but significantly enhanced, with the aim of maintaining the model’s position as the segment leader in Europe. This article reveals what has changed within the 2024 Toyota Yaris Cross line-up in the keys areas of technology, power and style.
Please note: the availability of vehicle features described in this article may be dependent on the grade of vehicle. Consult your local Toyota centre or visit toyota.co.uk for more information.
2024 Toyota Yaris Cross: technology
The revised model introduces a completely new digital user experience. This includes new instrument displays that be configured and customised to suit the driver’s preference, and a new Toyota Smart Connect multimedia system that is more powerful, quicker to respond and offers a wider range of functions. The size of the displays are now class-leading: up to 12.3-inch for the driver’s combimeter and up to 10.5-inch for the multimedia touchscreen (both grade dependent).
In addition to wireless smartphone integration for both Apple and Android devices, a function of the new multimedia system is its ‘always connected’ cloud-based navigation, which uses up-to-the-moment information on routes, traffic and delays to offer optimal journey planning. The system also offers speech recognition through an on-board voice agent that can recognise and react to natural, conversational language and requests. For example, by saying, “Hey Toyota, I’m cold,” the system will automatically realise the need to raise the climate control temperature.
The revised car is also equipped with the latest generation of Toyota Safety Sense. The advanced features of this system – now with increased scope for detecting risks thanks to a new camera and radar set-up – are provided as standard throughout the 2024 Toyota Yaris Cross range. It is linked to a new data communications module that allows seamless, over-the-air software updates.
Protection is also offered when the car is stationary with the availability of a system that provides a visual and audible warning to help guard against a door being inadvertently opened into the path of approaching vehicles and cyclists.
2024 Toyota Yaris Cross: power and driving pleasure
The 2024 Toyota Yaris Cross joins its hatchback sibling in offering a second, more powerful version of its fifth-generation hybrid electric powertrain to further increase the model’s appeal.
This means that in addition to the established 1.5-litre full hybrid electric system, higher grade GR Sport and new Premiere Edition (see subheading below) models will be equipped with an upgraded system that features a new transaxle and a larger, more powerful motor-generator. Together with adjustments to the power control unit, output rises by 14% (from 114 to 130bhp), and maximum torque increases by 30% (141 to 185Nm). Acceleration from rest to 62mph is now reduced by half a second to 10.7 seconds, while emissions from the revised powertrain remain at a best-in-class 103-122g/km.
Statistics are only part of the story; equally significant is the impact the new powertrain has on the driving experience. It gives the 2024 Yaris Cross a more dynamic and responsive feel, with drive motor assistance also having been tuned to deliver a more linear relationship with accelerator input for faithful feedback.
Improvements have also been applied to how occupants are isolated from noise and vibrations through the powertrain. A dynamic damper has been added to the left-side engine mount; a resonator has been fitted to the intake hose; the inner dash silencer has been changed from a single layer to a three-layer construction; and an extra layer of felt has been added to the cowl top silencer. To combat wind and road noise, thicker glass is used across the windscreen and side windows.
2024 Toyota Yaris Cross: added style with new Premiere Edition
The new Premiere Edition represents the halo model of the 2024 range. Among the body colour options is an exclusive new Urban Khaki bi-tone paint finish (below and lead images), which is paired with exclusive new 18-inch machine-finished five-spoke alloy wheels. Inside, upholstery stitching and deco lines on the instrument panel and doors coordinate with the green paintwork.

I have just ordered a 2024 Yaris cross Excel on a special event with dealer discount but I wasn’t told I had the option of the new 130hp engine in the GR sport and Premier versions. Can I cancel the Excel and re order the premier version as I want the upgraded engine.
Hi Alan, thanks for your comment.
This would be something to discuss directly with your local Toyota Centre.
Thanks,
Toyota UK
Hi I have ordered a yaris cross premiere edition but have been unable to view an urban khaki vehicle
I’ve just ordered my Yaris Cross 130 Premier Edition – many thanks to Parklands Toyota Helston
Hi Phil,
This is amazing to hear, thank you very much for your order.
Is this you first Toyota?
Thanks.
No, it’s my 10th. Previously had Rav 4’s Excel’s but sold my last one in Jan this year, which was the best most comfortable vehicle ever. The new models are now beyond my reach financially so I have downsized to this little beauty. My wife also runs a Yaris Excel which is also superb.
My local dealer ( Oakmere, Northwich) doesn’t have a CLUE!!!
Re your reply regarding the 360 Panoramic View Monitor (see below)
”It’s great to hear of your interest in the Yaris Cross. The 360 Panoramic View Monitor is an optional feature on the Excel grade, added as part of the City Pack. Your local Toyota Centre will be happy to provide further detail on this”
I’m looking to buy the Excel model , but I’ve been advised that I will need to go for the GRsport if I require the 360 Panoramic View Monitor
Can you confirm again please?
Thank you
Camilla
Hi Camilla,
Thanks for your comment.
Our Product Team have advised that the 360 Panoramic View Monitor is available in the Advanced Safety Pack.
The Advanced Safety Pack is standard on Excel and Premiere Edition grades and optional on the GR Sport Grade.
We hope this helps.
Thanks.
I also have problems with battery going flat. The bottom line is you will not even be able to go on holiday and leave car in car park without getting stranded. There is no mention of this issue in the manual. Cannot believe this can be deemed acceptable this day and age. Also never had this on previous car. Why can’t they design the car that it can use the main battery in an emergency rather than being left stranded. Joke.
Hi Peter,
I had the same problem with my RAV4 but found you can fit a small Solar panel loosly on the dash board when parked up which trickle feeds the battery. It does work as its all the alarms etc that drain the battery .
Hope that helps
David in the UK
Hi, my wife has a brand new Yaris cross excellent and require the screen to be changed from Analogue to digital. Yes we have tried the suggestions to use the wheel functions to scroll through to the Meters area to change from A to D. But there is No meter section.
Car is brand new 24 plate any ideas?
We have been looking everywhere.
Best regard as Dave.
Hi Dave, thanks for your comment.
Please may you provide the registration number or VIN.
Thanks,

We have placed an order for a Yaris Cross Premier 130bhp. I’m very concerned to see so many adverse comments concerning the 35ah batteries going flat. So I would like to ask Toyota the question; what are you doing about this? We are not high mileage drivers and definitely do not want to have call the breakdown services out for a flat battery.
Hi Vic, thanks for your comment.
Whilst some customers may currently be experiencing issues with the 12V battery on the Yaris Cross, it is not presenting itself in every situation and seems to remain linked to a lack of frequent journeys. Your local Toyota Centre is best placed to investigate and provide further information.
Thanks,
Toyota UK
Unless it’s an upgraded battery in the 2024 model a trickle charger is just a bodge. Have held off ordering a new premiere…who wants this sort of hassle in a £30k+ new car 😉
Agree – I would very much like to put an order in for a Yaris Cross but will wait until the 12V battery going flat issue is sorted – sorry none of my cars so far went flat within a week or so of not being driven, this would be a major inconvenience. Hope it gets sorted soon as I really like the car otherwise.
12v battery problem a real pain, every time I go away I have to jump start on arrival home and
leave in “Ready” mode for at least 1 hour or go for long drive to charge battery !
This needs sorting out ASAP by Toyota. Before I replace my present Yaris Cross.
Some other option is required along the lines KIA use for example.
I want to order the new Premier Edition 2024 Yaris cross but just can’t seem to get much information on the spec. i.e. does it have heated front seats, heated steering wheel etc. Also, does it have a panoramic roof or 360 degree reversing camera?
Do let me know.
Thanks
Hi Juliette,
Thank you for your interest in the new Yaris Cross.
The Premiere Edition comes with a Heated Steering Wheel and Heated Front Seats.
The Skyview Panoramic Roof is available as an optional extra.
Finally, the Premiere Edition comes with the Advanced Safety Pack as standard which includes the 360 Panoramic View Monitor.
We hope this helps.
Thanks.
Wish we had read these comments before putting a down payment on a used Cross, we were not made aware of this issue and as low usage drivers this may be a problem. We need a car that is reliable when we need to use it even if it’s not been used for days on end. We are trying to get the deposit back as we believe we were misinformed about its suitability for our needs, which in all probability they are entitled to refuse to do, if they truly believe in their reputation as a brand leader, I hope it is, they should have no problem selling it to someone who doesn’t have a problem with the relevant issue.
I have a 21 reg yaris hybrid Excel I had no problem with the flat battery in my first year, but in year 22 I had to call the AA to start my car, there was a further two disappointments where I came to the car failed to start, I had to ask my neighbour to give me a jump start x2, then I decided it was better to be prepared so I bought myself a RING MICRO lithium jump starter 12v 600mHa, it’s worth the weight in gold now I’m prepared in advance, maybe Toyota should put it in their accessory categories?
Since this is the only hiccup, overall The yaris hybrid is a superb, I can’t find another make of car that can achieve between 60 & 70 mpg with full hybrid system which is second to non,
My car is 3 year old this July 2024,I’m considering part exchanging it for a yaris cross excl soon.
Hi, i have a new cross icon i picked up last monday – it may not be the new model im not sure but the picture on the radio display is odd like a picture of a signal, where it used to be a blank screen. is there any way i can change this?
thank you
