Our multi-award-winning compact SUV has been gently but significantly enhanced, with the aim of maintaining the model’s position as the segment leader in Europe. This article reveals what has changed within the 2024 Toyota Yaris Cross line-up in the keys areas of technology, power and style.
Please note: the availability of vehicle features described in this article may be dependent on the grade of vehicle. Consult your local Toyota centre or visit toyota.co.uk for more information.
2024 Toyota Yaris Cross: technology
The revised model introduces a completely new digital user experience. This includes new instrument displays that be configured and customised to suit the driver’s preference, and a new Toyota Smart Connect multimedia system that is more powerful, quicker to respond and offers a wider range of functions. The size of the displays are now class-leading: up to 12.3-inch for the driver’s combimeter and up to 10.5-inch for the multimedia touchscreen (both grade dependent).
In addition to wireless smartphone integration for both Apple and Android devices, a function of the new multimedia system is its ‘always connected’ cloud-based navigation, which uses up-to-the-moment information on routes, traffic and delays to offer optimal journey planning. The system also offers speech recognition through an on-board voice agent that can recognise and react to natural, conversational language and requests. For example, by saying, “Hey Toyota, I’m cold,” the system will automatically realise the need to raise the climate control temperature.
The revised car is also equipped with the latest generation of Toyota Safety Sense. The advanced features of this system – now with increased scope for detecting risks thanks to a new camera and radar set-up – are provided as standard throughout the 2024 Toyota Yaris Cross range. It is linked to a new data communications module that allows seamless, over-the-air software updates.
Protection is also offered when the car is stationary with the availability of a system that provides a visual and audible warning to help guard against a door being inadvertently opened into the path of approaching vehicles and cyclists.
2024 Toyota Yaris Cross: power and driving pleasure
The 2024 Toyota Yaris Cross joins its hatchback sibling in offering a second, more powerful version of its fifth-generation hybrid electric powertrain to further increase the model’s appeal.
This means that in addition to the established 1.5-litre full hybrid electric system, higher grade GR Sport and new Premiere Edition (see subheading below) models will be equipped with an upgraded system that features a new transaxle and a larger, more powerful motor-generator. Together with adjustments to the power control unit, output rises by 14% (from 114 to 130bhp), and maximum torque increases by 30% (141 to 185Nm). Acceleration from rest to 62mph is now reduced by half a second to 10.7 seconds, while emissions from the revised powertrain remain at a best-in-class 103-122g/km.
Statistics are only part of the story; equally significant is the impact the new powertrain has on the driving experience. It gives the 2024 Yaris Cross a more dynamic and responsive feel, with drive motor assistance also having been tuned to deliver a more linear relationship with accelerator input for faithful feedback.
Improvements have also been applied to how occupants are isolated from noise and vibrations through the powertrain. A dynamic damper has been added to the left-side engine mount; a resonator has been fitted to the intake hose; the inner dash silencer has been changed from a single layer to a three-layer construction; and an extra layer of felt has been added to the cowl top silencer. To combat wind and road noise, thicker glass is used across the windscreen and side windows.
2024 Toyota Yaris Cross: added style with new Premiere Edition
The new Premiere Edition represents the halo model of the 2024 range. Among the body colour options is an exclusive new Urban Khaki bi-tone paint finish (below and lead images), which is paired with exclusive new 18-inch machine-finished five-spoke alloy wheels. Inside, upholstery stitching and deco lines on the instrument panel and doors coordinate with the green paintwork.
When will the new Yaris Cross arrive?
UK pricing and ordering details for the 2024 Yaris Cross will be announced before the end of the year.
All information was correct at the time of publishing
I am interested when the 2024 Toyota Yaris Cross premier Edition will be available to buy from the Toyota .
Hi Allan,
Thanks for your comment.
The 2024 Yaris Cross is available to order now.
Please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with.
Thanks.
Whilst I love reading about all the features on the top model Yaris Cross, regrettably I will only be able to afford a basic icon version. I am becoming frustrated in being not able to see an actual vehicle in icon trim in a Toyota dealer, nor any full pictorial detail of the icon trim online. Is there anything available which fully details exactly what is included with this lesser version?
Hi Graham
If you look on our website you will be able to see what comes with the Icon.

Generally, Only top model specifications are available for a test drive or viewing at the Toyota Centres.
Kind regards
Has production of the yaris cross hybrid 130 started yet?
Hi Keith
Production has started.
Kind regards
When did the Yaris Cross hybrid 130 production start? Surely if production has started Toyota should have a full uk specification which could be made available to prospective purchasers and sent to those customers who have already ordered one. To date website configurator still not available.
Hi Anne, thanks for getting in touch.
We are working on updating the website to allow for more interaction with the GR Sport and Premiere Edition grades that have the 130hp engine.
If you have one on order your Toyota Centre should be able to answer any questions you have.
Thanks,
Toyota UK
Has the 12v battery been upgraded to a larger battery, as the current yaris cross has so many issues with car not starting as battery has drained after 1 day of not driving it. Toyota’s answer is to drive the vehicle every day to keep the charge up???? The only fix is to recall and increase size of battery. Thought Toyota would have at least got that right👎 very poor for a leading manufacturer.
I’d like to know the answer to this one too. This question seems to have been missed by Toyota UK.
Hi EW,thanks for getting in touch.
The revised battery has a better charge acceptance rating. The charging performance is therefore slightly improved, however it still requires that the vehicle is driven or left with the engine running to charge the 12V battery.
This battery is currently available to the network in the event of a customer concern, but they need to clearly understand the issue and usage conditions too and offer appropriate advice to prevent repeat failures.
If the vehicle is not being used regularly or there aren’t other measures in place to maintain the 12V battery (solar charger, trickle charger etc.), it can still cause the 12V battery to go flat.
We advise taking appropriate steps to maintain the 12V battery if the vehicle is being used infrequently or only for short journeys. This includes the measures above or taking the vehicle for a longer drive each month or leaving the engine running for over 30 minutes each month when safely parked – whilst washing the vehicle for example.
Thanks,
Toyota UK
I have the same trouble which is a massive con by a multinational company.
I will not buy another Toyota after being a customer for 30 years. Hyundai have solved the problem with the battery drain but Toyota cannot be bothered so it shows they are not interested in looking after their customers. What a waste of £28000 taken out of my pension pot. I am livid at being taken for a fool.
When can we expect the new yaris cross to be available in showrooms for a test drive?
Hi Keith, thanks for getting in touch.
It’s great to hear of your interest for the new Yaris Cross. Demonstrators are due to arrive towards the end of this month to early June.
Thanks,
Toyota UK
How long will the premiere edition toyota yaris cross will arrive from the point of ordering it? How many months is the wait. And what are the color options for this model?
Hi FJ, thanks for your comment.
We’re pleased to hear of your interest in the new Yaris Cross. Orders placed today would be expected to arrive from around August time, although the exact ETA would depend on the grade and any accessories chosen. The Premiere Edition is available in the exclusive Urban Khaki colouring, Bi-Tone Oxide Bronze
Metallic, Bi-Tone Silver Metallic or Bi-Tone Platinum White Pearl.

Ordered a Yaris cross premiere edition in March .Have the Toyota app as I currently drive a Yaris cross .The app shows new car has been built and left factory but my dealer informs me that the car has not been built yet and not due until June. What is the point of having an app that gives false info on progress of the car build or is it just a gimmick ..?
Hi Joe, thanks for getting in touch.
The app gives a rough estimate but isn’t as detailed as our internal systems. We’ll get your new Yaris Cross to you as soon as possible.
Thanks,
Toyota UK
My Toyota app is still saying, since placing order on 9th February 24 processing order. The dealer tells me my car is built and awaiting shipment to uk. This feature within the app sounds great but it clearly does not work along with the premiere edition configurator. Really cannot understand why it is taking months to resolve these issues.
Hi Anne,thanks for the reply.
We do apologise for the vehicle order tracker not updating the status.
Until resolved, the Dealer will be the best place for new information on the delivery progress.
Thanks,
Toyota UK
Does the new trim excel model have wireless phone charging?
What are the interior colours on the excel model?
Ordered in April with no interior trim options.
Hi Brad, thanks for getting in touch.
Great to know you have a new Yaris Cross Excel coming.
The Excel grade does have wireless charging where the mobile device supports it.
The interior is finished in Taupe Fabric & Synthetic Leather.
Thanks,
Toyota UK
Hi,
I took delivery of my 2024 Excel at the end of April and it does not have wireless charging.
John
Hi John, thanks for your comment.
The exact specification will depend upon the build date of your vehicle. If you would like us to check on this, we will need your full registration number.
Thanks,

Thanks for your help, I ordered a ‘new trim’ Yaris cross excel and believe it’s the new spec.
What has happened to the optional tech pack that was previously available? And therefore what trim level features the panoramic view monitor(360 view )/advanced Parking assist ?
Hi Brad, thank you for the reply.
You would need the City Pack to include the 360′ view and advanced parking assist, noting this does reduce the size of the onboard monitor to 8″ from 9″ originally and replaces the reverse camera with the all round viewpoint.
Here is a link to the brochure: https://www.toyota.co.uk/content/dam/toyota/nmsc/united-kingdom/brochure-downloads/yaris-cross-jan.pdf
Thanks,
Toyota UK
Brad, the brochure on the website is Dec 2022 which is out of date and does not have the up to date spec information. I would recommend speaking with your dealer who should be able to provide up to date information off their product briefing. I have also ordered a MY24 Excel Yaris Cross and mine comes with the 360⁰ panoramic camera and parking assist as standard for that trim level.
This is the old brochure?
city pack is unavailible to select for the new spec?
Hi Brad, thank you for the reply.
Emma is correct, the New Excel grade does come with Advanced Parking assist and 360º Panoramic View Monitor (PVM).
Apologies for the confusion.
Thanks,
Toyota UK
I will wait and see what problems if any new owners have with the 12 volt battery discharging, this is a car that should be designed for town use, (short journeys) .
If it has not been designed to cope with short journeys, (no trouble with my ICE car and alternator charging a battery which is twice the size, then it is not fit for purpose.
Talk about leaving engine running when you clean car, or charging the battery with a trickle charger, seems to be opposite to its purpose less pollution .
Not to mention as I understand because the battery in not worked hard cranking the engine, the 12v battery deteriorate much faster.
Does the new Yaris Cross 130, GR Sport model come with HUD, Wireless Charging and Advanced parking assist as a standard too? I’ve ordered one but can’t find an outline online and there is still no configurator.
Hi Caleb, thank you for getting in touch.
Great to know you have one on order.
The 130hp GR Sport grade does not feature a HUD (or the option to add it), but it does come with wireless charging and the option of adding the ‘Advanced Safety Pack’ which includes Advanced Parking assist.
Enjoy yours when it arrives.
Thanks,
Toyota UK
