2022 Toyota C-HR and Corolla: What’s changed?

2022 Corolla

Toyota has updated the popular Corolla and Toyota C-HR model lines for 2022, introducing new multimedia technology, trims, colours and a revised special edition. Orders can now be placed for these models, with customer deliveries expected early in 2022. But what detail changes have been applied?

Toyota’s philosophy of continuous improvement ensures that the Corolla never relies on past achievements but is constantly refined to fulfil its role as the perfect partner for everyday mobility.

Platinum White Pearl (lead image) and Silver Metallic (below) body colours are being introduced across all body variants – Hatchback, Touring Sports and Saloon – with the added of option of a bi-tone combination for Hatchback models. In addition, Design grade saloon models are gaining a new 17-inch ten-spoke alloy wheel design with a bright machined finish as standard.

For the Touring Sports model, Toyota is extending its partnership with leading bicycle manufacturer Trek. This relationship has already seen the elevated estate take on duties as a support vehicle for the Trek-Segafredo pro-cycling team. But now the revised special edition will continue through to December 2022 with a higher specification and 2.0-litre hybrid powertrain exclusively.

As well as the familiar 20mm raised ride height, wheel arch mouldings and front and rear under-runs, the 2022 Corolla Touring Sports Trek introduces new 18-inch alloy wheel designs and chrome door window frames. Meanwhile, the cabin features piano black door handles, black leather upholstery and a satin chrome deco line across the instrument panel and front doors.

Toyota is updating the mid-size SUV with subtle yet sophisticated style touches. The popular Design grade is enhanced with new 18-inch alloy wheels, while the cabin sees a new combination of fabric and supple synthetic leather with trim details accented in a cool gunmetal tone.

Deep Amethyst is a new colour option available on all grades, and can be specified as part of a bi-tone finish on the Toyota C-HR GR Sport grade.

2022 Corolla and Toyota C-HR: now with Toyota Smart Connect

Our latest Toyota Smart Connect multimedia system will be provided as standard or an option on all 2022 Corolla and Toyota C-HR models (pictured below) except those in entry-level Icon grade. Operated via an eight-inch high-definition touchscreen, this new platform takes connectivity and functionality to a higher level with a processor that operates 2.4 times faster than the current system.

As the name suggests, its features include instant access to a series of smart connected services, such as cloud-based navigation with live traffic information, 3D city mapping, highway signage and fixed traffic camera locations. All data and information is delivered via the communications module, so no phone pairing is required for smart connected services and no additional data costs are incurred.

The driver can also make use of a new on-board voice agent that recognises natural, conversational requests to operate the multimedia and navigation.

Software updates are made seamlessly over the air and smartphone integration is provided wirelessly via Apple CarPlay or with a wired connection for Android Auto. A four-year Toyota Smart Connect package, including local parking and road event information, over-the-air updates and the voice agent, is included in the vehicle’s purchase price.

  1. Hi, New Corolla 1.8 hybrid, at traffic lights, what do you select -PARK or NEUTRAL ?

Why is this car getting very dirty around the rear hatch ?. I have seen and also read in the blog. Thanks.

    1. Hi there,
Thanks for your comment, and congratulations on your new Corolla.
We would recommend selecting Park at traffic lights.
Furthermore, can you provide some more clarity on the dirt around the rear hatch please?
      Thanks.

  2. Hi,the rear end of COROLLA HATCHBACK [ 2019 ONWARDS ] gets very dirty, which I have noticed and also read in the review and the blog. Why is it ? Is it the design ? Would rear mudflaps help ? I am planning to purchase new one but I would really appreciate your comments. Thanks.

      1. Its down to an aerodynamic effect that affects vans, lorry’s & hatchback cars that creates a negative pressure area at the rear of the vehicle, in this case fitting mud flaps wont make any difference.
Maybe the Toyota product design team can come up with a solution?

  3. Hi there
    1. Are the MY22 C-HR vehicles available as demonstrators with the Toyota UK dealers?
    2. Have they been delivered to customers in the UK?
    3. Some of the CHRs available for early delivery on Toyota’s UK website – are they MY22?
    Thanks,
    Sol

    1. Hi Sol,
      Thanks for your comment.
1 + 3) We would recommend confirming this with your Toyota Centre, but likely no.
      2) Not yet, customer deliveries expected in the coming months.
Please let us know if you have any further questions.
      Thanks.

  4. Hi Mr. Lee Power , Thanks for your logical explaination on the subject of COROLLA HYBRID [2019 MODELS ONWARDS ]-Rear end getting very dirty. How is that the other hatchbacks like AURIS etc.. do not get that dirty ? Thanks.

    1. Its basically to do with the airflow over & around the vehicle.
The Auris hatch is a different psychical design to the Corolla hatch so they have different aerodynamic airflow characteristics as they cut through the air differently.
Maybe Toyota can look in to the Corolla hatchback design to see if there is a solution to the problem.

  5. Hi there,

I purchased brand bew COROLLA 1.8 HYBRID HATCHBACK on 4 Sept 2021 [ 71 REG ] in TYROL SILVER, but
the glue mark line on the bonnet where factory stick the protective sheet on the bonnet/roof to protect from bird drops keeps reappearing where the protective sheet ends on the bonnet. It has been SUPAGARDED, and I even very mildly polished it. It disappeared for a couple of weeks and reappeared again.,Very annoying. Any suggestion/advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

    1. Hi there,
Congratulations on your new Corolla, thank you for choosing Toyota.
We would recommend taking your Corolla to your nearest Toyota Centre to physically inspect this.
      Thanks.

  6. What connectivity options are there for the new “multimedia system”?
Is it just a glorified radio that needs to be connected to an annoying phone that keeps cutting the music out and pinging all the time (almost as bad as listening to a radio presenter) or can it be connected to sensible music devices with a 3.5mm jack?

      1. Hi Fred,
        Thank you for your patience.
The Model Year 2022 Corolla does not come with a 3.5mm connection.
Please let us know if you have any further questions.
        Thanks.

  7. Is there a rough guide to how long the wait would be for a corolla 2.0 gr sport in the UK if ordered tomorrow thanks

    1. Hi Scott,
Thank you for your interest in the Corolla GR Sport.
Your Toyota Centre would be best placed to advise on lead times.
      Thanks.

  8. Hi,
I’m interested in the Corolla Touring Sports, Trek – Special Edition and have a few questions please.

    – Am I correct in saying that the wood effect (standard Trek model) trim has now been replaced for the Satin trim?
    – Are there any more details available for the Trek Special Edition. I can’t currently spec one on the Toyota site and the brochure hasn’t been updated. Some more pictures of the exterior and interior would be great + a spec sheet if available.
    – Are you able to say what the current lead time is for this model
    – I note the infotainment now has wireless car play (which is great). Does the car now have wireless charging also?
    – Last question …. is it possible to order this car in Tyrol Silver.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    1. Hi Chris,
      Thank you for your patience.
      1) The TREK Special Edition has a black leather & fabric trim.
      2) More information should be available on our website very soon.
      3) Your nearest Toyota Centre would be best placed to advise on lead times.
      4) The Corolla does not come with wireless charging.
      5) The TREK Special Edition cannot be ordered in Tyrol Silver. However, Silver Metallic and Sterling Silver are available.
      Thanks.

  9. On a 22 CHR, can “smart connect” be downgraded to Icon trim level (and, more importantly, the communications module removed *entirely*) for those who prefer an unconnected experience?

    1. Hi Charles,
      Thanks for your comment.
The Toyota C-HR Icon grade will not come with Smart Connect.
Furthermore, the communications module cannot be removed. Any attempt to do so may invalidate the vehicle’s warranty.
      Thanks.

      1. Thanks,

In which case, can the communications module be put into a “flight mode” or otherwise prevented from transmitting data about the vehicle, while still supporting the “eCall” service routed through the same unit?

      2. Hi Charles,
Our technical team have advised that if connected services are not registered, the only the police with good grounds can trace the vehicle.
        We hope this helps.
        Thanks.
