2021 Land Cruiser powers up for autumn

The mighty Land Cruiser has been updated for the 2021 model year, a highlight of which is a new 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine that offers more power and greater efficiency.

The new, four-cylinder motor delivers 201bhp at 3,000rpm and peak torque of 500Nm from 1,600rpm. These represent increases of 27bhp and 50Nm over the previous engine, which are in turn reflected in a 2.8-second reduction in the dash from zero to 62mph (now less than ten seconds). Yet this additional muscle brings no penalty in terms of fuel economy or CO2 emissions.

With the benefit of a standard stop-start system, fuel consumption has actually improved; as the new engine meets the UK’s Real Driving Emissions standard it also qualifies for Vehicle Excise Duty that is £325 cheaper in the first year than the outgoing model.

2021 Land Cruiser passenger range

The 2021 Land Cruiser passenger line-up is now available in two grades: Active and Invincible. Each can be specified in three- and five-door formats and with either five or seven seats.

  • Active grade

Active grade marks the new entry point. Its established features include 17-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, air conditioning, smart entry and push-button start, roof rails and heated power door mirrors. The standard specification now gains wireless smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, together with an improved multimedia system fronted by an eight-inch touchscreen with a customisable layout.

  • Invincible grade

The seven-seat Invincible model sits at the top of the Land Cruiser range. As the name of the grade suggests, it is equipped with a comprehensive suite of technically advanced control systems to help it tackle almost every kind of off-road condition. These include Multi-Terrain Select, a rear differential lock, centre Torsen limited-slip differential, Crawl Control, and Adaptive Variable Suspension with electronically modulated rear air suspension.

While being able to deal with challenging conditions, the Land Cruiser Invincible also offers a wealth of comfort and convenience features. These include triple-zone climate control, power steering column and front seat adjustment, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second row seats, leather upholstery, multi-view monitor, 14-speaker JBL Synthesis premium audio system, LED headlights, 19-inch alloys, rear privacy glass and illuminated side steps. The Toyota Safety Sense system is also upgraded with Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Trace Assist, and the ability to warn the driver of potentially unseen pedestrians and cyclists.

New for the 2021 model year is an optional Black Pack, which means that customers who opt for black leather upholstery can also specify an all-black exterior. This covers the front grille, door mirror casings, rear light surrounds, side mouldings and rear garnish, plus clear lenses for the rear light clusters. The look is carried through to the cabin with a black finish across the centre console and transmission tunnel. Black alloy wheels (see image below) can also be specified, as an additional option.

  1. Hi Stephen, thanks for your comment.

We have no information on any changes for the Land Cruiser at this time. Any model updates will be posted across both our blog and social media channels so stay tuned.

    Thanks

  2. Is the Toyota Land Crusier still available in the UK.
I have now owned 4 but my dealer is telling me they are on factory allocation and cannot offer a delivery date.

    1. Hi David,

Thanks for the interest in the Land Cruiser. Yes, the Land Cruiser is available in UK. As the dealer said, it is factory build only. This means we don’t hold any stock. You’ll need to decide what vehicle specification you want, then the dealer should be able to give a lead time.

      Thanks

    1. Hi Paul,
Thanks for getting in touch with us.
We are unable to comment on the specification decisions of other markets but, in the UK, the SWB Commercial Land Cruiser does not come with a spare wheel.
We are sorry that this doesn’t suit your ideal requirements and will pass your feedback onto our product team.
      Thanks.

  3. Hi, interested in the new Land Cruiser.

    1. Hi Stuart,
Thanks for getting in touch with us. It’s great to hear that you’re interested in the Land Cruiser.
Apologies for the delay whilst we’ve checked this out with our wider team.
It seems that your nearest demonstrator is at Steven Eagell St Albans, and this is the MY20 Land Cruiser model in the Invincible 2.8DA derivative.
You can contact them on 01727 874747 to book an appointment, or further contact information can be found here: https://www.toyota.co.uk/forms-v2/forms?tab=pane-dealer.
      Thanks.

  5. Hi
I live in north Nottinghamshire trying to find a land cruiser to test drive can any one help?

They can be contacted on 01522 522097, or alternatively, we can pass on your email address to them. Let us know which you prefer!

      Thanks

  6. We have a 2014 (new model) Invincible.
Will we find any changes on the 2021 model?
Is a rear dvd screen still included and an inbuilt (front screen) sat Nav as standard?
Also, can we order cream leather interior with the Vermillion Red exterior (we definitely don’t want a black interior!)?
    Thanks

    1. Hi Mary,
Thanks for getting in touch with us.
The Land Cruiser has undergone significant changes in the past 7 years. A full equipment list for the MY20 model can be found here: https://fal.cn/3fBLU.
There is no rear DVD screen in the current Land Cruiser.
Navigation is available as an option on the Active grade, but as standard on the Invincible.
The Ortaka Ivory Leather trim is available as an option in the Invincible grade only.
The best way to confirm if a vehicle will meet your needs is to go and take a look at it. If you would like to view a demonstrator, we can help you find your nearest vehicle.
      Thanks.

      1. Thank you. We’d love to view and potentially test drive a recent model. We are at WF46BW which is West Yorkshire
        Thank you

      2. Hi Mary,

  7. Does the utility model with a manual gearbox have exactly the same power output as the automatic model? Any reverse camera on the utility?

    1. Hi Jason,
      Thanks for getting in touch.
The Utility is a Commercial model only. The DIN hp figure is 204, and this is the same for both the 2.8 diesel automatic and the 2.8 diesel manual.
There is no reversing camera on the Utility grade.
      Thanks.

  8. Will there be a 3500kg towing option for the Land Cruiser? I know the Hilux offers 3500kg but I’d have to strip down to my undercrackers and leave my lunch at home to stay within the max train weight.

    1. Hi Guy,

Nobody wants to drive a car in their underwear! No info on increased towing capacity though, Guy. Sorry about that. Have you considered a Hilux?

  9. Hello,

Are the 3 door SWB 2021 Land Cruisers available to order in the UK at the moment, and what’s a likely lead time currently please?

    1. Hi Andrew, thanks for your interest in the Land Cruiser.

This model is available to order and your local Toyota Centre will be able to provide further information regarding lead times as this will depend upon the grade chosen and any accessory fitments.

      Thanks
