2024 Land Cruiser reviews

Autocar: 4.5/5

“Cool new styling is accompanied by more refined road manners without harm to workhorse fundamentals. Few cars offer quite the same duality of ability to go to Waitrose or on a desert expedition. Being a Toyota, it can be expected to return from both, too. Realistically, few people in Europe need a Land Cruiser. But those who do are getting an excellent update on an already very fit-for-purpose car.”

Auto Express: 4.5/5

“The Land Cruiser has long been a legend of toughness and reliability, and this all-new generation is no different. But what has changed are its levels of sophistication and tech, which only add a new dimension to its all-round capability. Yet this car’s greatest asset is still the legendary reliability that Toyota’s assured us has been at the very core of its development – and is tangible the moment you sit inside. The difference now is a sense of real desirability to go with it. For the job of getting you to and back from challenging or remote locations right across this wonderful planet, there are few cars better qualified for the job.”

CAR: 4/5

“The previous Land Cruiser was always a well-loved but fundamentally compromised 4×4 that offered limited appeal to those outside of farming or rural circles, at least in the UK. But the new Land Cruiser’s cool new design and overhauled interior show it can be successfully modernised. The greatest improvement has to be the way it drives on the road. While our cars were prototypes, [they] felt more than showroom-ready, and signals a brilliant reincarnation of this icon.”

Top Gear: 9/10

“Want a genuinely rugged off-roader that’s phenomenally capable, quietly desirable, will never let you down, is well kitted out yet manages to look cool? Here you go. The Land Cruiser 250 may have had the retro makeover, but it’s not flattering to deceive. As much as capability, there’s an honesty and integrity to it that is deeply appealing. It may not be the last word in sophistication, but the criticisms of its ride and refinement are churlish when they actually feel integral to its ability, plus there’s huge satisfaction to be had in driving a car that is so clear about what it’s for and how it should be used.”

  1. Will there be a 5 door commercial variant? Will commercials be out the same time or after the initial release?

Eagerly waiting, I’d rather not have to buy a defender.

  2. Just seen the price release, £75K GBP for the base model and £80K GBP for the first edition. When other markets are literally tens of thousands cheaper, what is the explanation behind this structure. From all of the marketing it was heavily suggested a drop in price structure from the outgoing model. Feels as though us in thenUK are being ripped off and will lead to many just going to JLR

    1. Hi Andrew, thanks for getting in touch.

I was sorry to read your comments regarding the difference in pricing for the Land Cruiser and was hoping to shed some light on this issue.
Fundamentally, the new Land Cruiser is priced competitively for the UK market. We are now only offering two grades – Invincible and First Edition – both of which are high grades with equipment levels significantly higher than compared with previous generations. For context, the previous generation Land Cruiser 150 started at £49,620 for the entry grade (Active model) and the highest grade (Invincible with sunroof and 7 seats) was priced at £65,225.
The all new Land Cruiser Invincible has received a significant increase in specification and features (valued at over £5000) which is factored in when setting pricing for any of our models. The remainder of the price increase can be attributed to this being the first all new designed Land Cruiser since 2009 on a new architectural platform and with an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
As mentioned, the Land Cruiser is priced competitively for the UK market and we would be unable to comment on the pricing or models from non-UK markets. Our Product team have confirmed that market based pricing is used and we position ourselves competitively against similar competitors models. When reviewing pricing, currency conversion, taxation, duty, shipping and logistics are just a few of the many factors considered.
Thank you for taking the time to contact us but hope this offers some context and clarity regards pricing of the all new Land Cruiser.

      Thanks,

      Toyota UK

  3. In the UK (not Toyota specific) manufactures of most products see the UK market as a cash cow.
Look at the prices of most items always cheaper abroad.
Toyota do not give us the cheap option as they “Perhaps” feel we all want a top end product and streamlined production to suit us well off (money to burn) people in the UK.
IMO all Toyota products are a premium product even the less equipped models so please give us the chance to make the decision…..
Personally, I have lost interest as I wanted a Short Wheel Base although I did consider a LWB but for 80K it needs to be what I want 100%.

NOTE EURO 7 is a few months way and the new release is classed a Euro 6 (note the version euro 6 is very clean and probably as clean as a Euro7? But try convincing TFL..! )

    1. Hi Yan
not sure what you mean the second row does fold and or tumble and can be easily taken out completely , the boot is bigger than its rivals
      regards
      Dave

  4. Will there be a commercial version available at a competitive price and are they rated to tow 3500kg?

    1. Hey Neil,
No news on this model currently, sorry!
Please keep an eye on our social media pages and mag for the latest information on our vehicle offerings.
