Toyota has revealed the new Yaris GR Sport, the latest addition to the multi-award-winning Yaris family. The Yaris GR Sport joins the Yaris hatchback, the 2021 European Car of the Year and the performance-focused, World Rally-inspired GR Yaris.
The GR Sport is available with Toyota’s 1.5-litre self-charging hybrid electric powertrain. The front and rear suspension systems have been upgraded on the Yaris GR Sport, with the shock absorbers optimised to react quicker at lower speeds, improving steering response and ride comfort. The rear springs have been tuned to suppress body tilt or wheel lift under acceleration and braking.
The car’s body rigidity has been strengthened with additional underfloor bracing on each side, improving handling and stability. Aerodynamic performance has also been addressed with additional liners in the front and rear wheel arches to reduce drag.
The Yaris GR Sport is fitted with bespoke 18-inch alloy wheels, distinguished by red accent lines that reinforce the model’s Gazoo Racing association. The front grille has a new mesh design featuring a “G” motif pattern and at the rear, there is a new T-shaped rear diffuser. Customers have the option of a new Dynamic Grey exterior paint finish that’s exclusive to the model.
The Gazoo Racing theme continues inside with GR logos on the steering wheel, headrests, starter button and driver’s instrument display. The seats have a new cloth upholstery with red accent stitching; (there is also the option of Ultrasuede™. Red stitchwork is also featured on the perforated leather steering wheel trim and gear shift. There is new GR Sport-exclusive gunmetal silver trim on the door panels, side air vents and steering wheel.
The Toyota Yaris GR Sport will be available in Europe during the second quarter of 2022. Details of UK model specifications will be announced nearer the on-sale date.
My current yaris hybrid is a 1.5 as well so no difference in the speed my current model as very low mileage at 3,520 on a 67 plate.
Could be interested but don’t think I’d get finance but with my current car and low mileage it probably take up good chunk (but is on finance)
I also have front / rear dash cameras that would need transferring across plus my current car as the smart water technology marking done so would want on new model if I decide to go down the road and could get the finance on yaris sport.
The final think will depend on colour rance that it comes in.
Hi Andy,
The Yaris GR Sport will give you the option of a new Dynamic Grey exterior paint finish that’s exclusive to the model.
Thanks.
Toyota Media announced in December 2021 that this new vehicle was going to have a new unique colour, Dynamic Grey. Elsewhere Toyota mention 1K6 with reference to the new colour. 1K6 is a reference to Toyota Ash Grey colour. Is there to be a new colour?
Hi Roy,
Thanks for your comment.
Details of the UK model specifications will be announced nearer the on-sale date this year.
Thanks.
Big difference between the old 1.5 hybrid and the new version from 2020 onwards, they are like night and day. I didn’t buy the old version because it was so boring but the new Yaris is totally different and I am awaiting a new one. I say test drive one and see the difference, the new version has much more power lower down and mid range.
Hopefully blind spot monitoring & rear cross traffic alert will be available.
Will a heated steering wheel be available in the UK with the optional heated seats?
Any chance of Toyota smart connect making it on to the spec / options list?
Hi Lee,

Will it come in manual or only come with a CVT?
Hi Mujtaba,
The Yaris GR Sport will not be available with a manual gearbox.
Thanks.
Do you know how the fuel consumption will compare to the existing Yaris Hybrid? Also will the infotainment be upgraded to the 9in screen with wireless Android Auto, on the new model or it and the existing trim levels too?
Hi Mark,

Hi Toyota
I have a 2019 Yaris GR Sport which is a Motability car. I’ve been so happy with this car but I’m due for a new lease around July. Is the new GR Sport available in 5 door? I am a disabled person and it’s important that I have a 5 door model also with reversing camera
Thank you
Arthur

Is there any chance of the GR Yaris CVT concept revealed at the 2020 Tokyo Auto Salon going into production, and if so, do you think it will be available on these shores. It looks a lot better than the GR Sport in the article.
Hi Steve,
We have no information to share on this at this time.
Thanks.
