This is our guide to Toyota tyre pressure and tyre advice. When it comes to car maintenance, many of us think only about oil changes and brake pads. However, tyres also deserve our attention, since they’re the only part of our vehicles that actually touch the road surface.
In this article we provide information concerning tyre law in the UK and on the continent (where motorway speeds can be higher) and inform you of the tyre sizes and preferred pressure levels for all models in the current Toyota passenger vehicle range.

Toyota tyre pressure frequently asked questions
1. What is the required tyre tread depth in the UK?
The UK government states that cars, light vans and light trailers must have a minimum tread depth of 1.6mm and “there must be tread across the middle three-quarters and around the entire tyre.”*
2. Is there a general government recommendation for tyre pressure?
No, tyre pressure recommendations vary from car to car. Car manufacturers set the values for inflation levels.
3. Where can I check the pressures for my Toyota if it is not listed below?
The tyre pressure for your Toyota will be listed in the vehicle handbook and in the driver-side door recess.
4. What rules are there concerning tyre condition?
Your tyres should be free from certain cuts and other defects such as uneven tread wear and foreign objects, such as nails.
5. Are there any tyre-related laws that I should be aware of when driving on the continent?
Yes, but they are mainly concerned with the fitment of winter tyres. The European countries listed below legally enforce the use of winter tyres between the stated dates*. Minimum tread depths may also change in winter or from country to country, so it’s best to check local laws before you depart.
Austria | 1 November to 15 April |
Estonia | 1 December to 28/29 February |
Finland | 1 December to 28/29 February |
Germany | In adverse winter weather conditions |
Latvia | 1 December to 28/29 February |
Norway | In adverse winter weather conditions winter tyres or chains must be used |
Sweden | 1 December to 31 March |
6. Why do pressure levels vary depending on wheel size?
Pressures vary because larger diameter wheels use lower-profile tyres. Low profile tyres have less rolling resistance and drag than higher-walled tyres, so inflating them to the same level as high-profile rubber can give a harsh ride and increase road noise.

Hi Jess,
Thanks for getting in touch. Unfortunately, we are only able to advise on cars in the UK market. We would advise contacting your local Toyota Centre for further assistance.
Thanks.
The registration is WA68ZFP. Thanks, Will
Hi Will,
After liaising with our Technical Team, we can confirm that as it’s listed in the owners manual and that the wheel dimension is the same, the other tyre can be fitted. However, this is only if all 4 tyres are the same.
Thanks, we hope this helps.
I have recently purchased a 2013 Prius Alpha (V/+) estate and on here it states 36psi all over and on the car door it states 35 in front and 33 psi on rear. Where are you getting 36psi all round on your recommendations from??????
Hi Gary,
Thanks for getting in touch. Could you please provide your registration/VIN number and we can look into this further for you?
Thanks.

Hi,can someone to tell me, please why I am able to fill up my Toyota Auris Tuaring Sports 1.3 VVTI petrol tank 2014 make just 37 litres when everywhere is written that tank’s capacity is 50 litres???
Thank you
Hi Aidan,
Thanks for getting in touch. If you could please provide a VIN number, we will be able to assist you further.
Thanks.
Hi, Toyota my Toyota Auris VIN is
SB1ZT3JE90E017655
Aidan
Thank you for your patience, Aidan. This will depend on at what point you are filling up the tank. For example, if you are filling it up at the start of the warning light, there will still be a reserve tank of petrol for you to use. However, we do not recommend relying on this. If you believe that there are issues with your tank, we would advise for you to contact your local Toyota Centre.
Thanks.
Thanks for the reply, Toyota.
Okay if my tank’s worning light is blinking I can fill in 37 litres at most.
Of course I don’t drive until it starts blinking I fill up when the gauge is on the last one grade / then I can put about 28- 30 litres depends where is that 50 litres tank capacity?
Thanks anyway.
And odometer says I can do 390 miles with full tank.
Hi Aidan,
If you are filling up from the stages that you mention, there is always a reserve tank of petrol. This will be why you can’t fill up to 50 litres, because you are never filling up from 0 litres.
We hope this helps, however if you believe you are having any issues with your vehicle, please contact your local Toyota centre.
Thanks.
I have a Toyota Noah x 2013 model car..Can you please tell me what’s the tyre pressure of my car?

Thanks for getting in touch. Unfortunately we can’t help with this as it’s not a UK vehicle. We would advise for you to contact Toyota in your region, as they will be able to assist you further.
Thanks.
Hi again team,
Re:- 2008 Yaris SR Reg. TJL 600S Vin. VNKKL96390A301034
This model was subject to “Port of import modifications”, which included upgraded alloy wheels. 16×7 “Pitlane” with 195x50x16 tyres, instead of other Yaris’s 14/15 inch equipment.
There has never been a stated tyre pressure recommendation that I can find for this car. Not in the handbook, not on the edge of either front door, nor on the tyre label inside the glove box. This only shows listings for several 14 and 15 inch tyre & wheel combinations.
Various experienced tyre people have differing advice. Your lovely staff at two different dealerships have had a total of about 6 different views over the years. I wonder if there is an official and recommended pressure listing you can find for me??
Just to complicate matters further, I have been using 225x45x16 tyres (currently Toyo Proxes) for some time, with a larger footprint and therefore much improved grip/handling. The size measurements are (within millimetres) virtually identical:- overall diameter, rolling circumference etc.
I’m NOT asking for pressure recommendations for THESE tyres, as I realise that you probably couldn’t do that.
Thank you in anticipation, Trevor Lidbury
Hi Trevor,
Thanks for your patience whilst we looked into this. As you can imagine, records for older vehicles aren’t as thorough as today’s vehicles. This is especially true for some of the accessories. Thankfully, I have finally managed to find an answer for you. The tyre pressure for this vehicle when fitted with the Pitlane alloy wheel, and on factory rubber, is 2.4bar for the front and 2.2bar for the rear. This is the same pressure as most of the other wheel options, for which information seemed to be readily available!
Thanks Matt. You accepted the challenge where others have failed. Where do I send your MARS BAR?
Hi,
I have a TOYOTA YARIS ICON VVT-I 2014-2017, 1329cc, 5 door hatchback, Automatic, Petrol
Both eco and normal pressures are given on the sticker inside the glove box, can I use either of these? I have the standard factory fitted wheels and tyres.
Thanks
Hi Gordon,
Thanks for getting in touch. If you could please provide a VIN number, we will be able to assist you further.

Hi there,
Thanks for getting in touch. There are different tyre pressures that will be recommended depending on the weight of what you’re carrying. If you could share an estimate, it may help us to determine your answer. In addition to this, could you also please provide your Reg or VIN.
Thanks.
