Land Cruiser Utility Commercial: ready for anything

This week marks a milestone for Toyota’s legendary Land Cruiser with the start of customer deliveries of the new Land Cruiser Utility Commercial models.

It’s the first time Land Cruiser has been available in the UK’s light commercial market, and it promises to make waves by offering the same all-wheel drive, all-road performance that has given the model a worldwide reputation for genuine go-anywhere capability.

Two versions are on offer: short wheelbase three-door and long-wheelbase five-door models, both sharing the same body styling and overall dimensions as the current 2018 passenger vehicle Land Cruiser.

Inside, the rear seats have been taken out to create generous load space that extends to 1,574 litres in the SWB and 2,216 litres in the LWB. In terms of payload, the respective maximum weights are up to 593 and 756kg. And if you need to haul even more than that, both models can tow up to three tonnes.

The load space is every bit as practical and durable as you would expect, fitted with an edge-to-edge, non-slip flat floor tray. A full-height metal bulkhead is provided, with a mesh top section and a hatch for easy access. The rear tailgate is side-hinged and opens wide for easy loading; additionally, the rear doors function on the LWB model. Rear windows are blanked out with a film that matches the Land Cruiser’s body colour.

The Land Cruiser Utility Commercials are business-like with their 17-inch steel wheels, but in the cabin there are plenty of comfort features and safety provisions are high. The tick-list includes cloth upholstery, adjustable head restraints, aux-in and USB connections. Front, side and driver’s knee airbags are fitted and the vehicle is equipped with Multi-terrain ABS, Active Traction Control, Vehicle Stability Control, Trailer Sway Control (LWB only) and a tyre pressure warning system. Dusk-sensing headlights, smart entry, front fog lights and roof rails are also included in the specification.

The new models sit alongside the 2018 Land Cruiser range, which benefits from refreshed styling inside and out and higher equipment specifications, including the standard provision of Toyota Safety Sense on Icon and Invincible versions.

The range has a new starting point in the form of the Utility grade models, simple in specification but with all the quality, durability and reliability that has defined Land Cruiser for decades.

    1. Hi Paul,

Thanks for getting in touch. Unfortunately we aren’t in any position to comment on any future developments.

  1. on the lwb do the rear side door windows which are blanked with film go up and down and does the window in the rear door open upwards

    1. Hi Ian,

Thanks for getting in touch and apologies for the delay in reply. No, the rear windows have been disabled on the LWB Commercial vehicle but yes the rear hatch window does open upwards.

      Hope this helps.

    1. was also wondering with the tpws fitted to the vehicle if i put alloy wheels on and new tyres instead of the steel ones factory fitted and do not put tpms units on will a light on the dash keep flashing at me or can this be permantley switched off

      1. Hi Ian,

The TPMS is a legal requirement for new vehicles and therefore you cannot disable this system. You can of course change the wheels and tyres for a different set, however if you are doing this, you will need to ensure the genuine tyre valve assemblies, which includes the pressure monitor sensors are fitted.

You will then need to register the transmitter ID into the vehicle, which will require you to contact your local Toyota Centre for the use of their diagnostic equipment.

        Hope this helps, thanks.

  2. have now taken delivery of my lwb commercial after 6 1/2 month ordeal from start to not quite finish. On the inside of the vehicle when you open the rear doors on the rear plastic area where the seats would have been i have been left with two 6″ holes which should i believe have infill panels where the seat brackets were or at least a part reduced hole with an infill panel around the previous bracket. But this has also been removed and have been left with a hole looking into a void. Surely when spending £30,000.00 this is not what anyone would expect from Toyota quality. It is also a health and safety issue if carrying animals as they could put there leg down the hole and possibly cause a break.
personally i am shocked by this poor quality and can not even say attention to detail as there is no detail. Also like to point out the Halo effect on back side windows on again the 5 door lwb as the vinyl blanking panels have a 5-6 mm gap all round them so let in light all round have had it removed and put 95% tint on instead at my cost every one who has seen it can not believe the poor quality.
can you help me get some sort of infill panel as the dealership have not got a clue and were shocked themselves when they first viewed the vehicle.
    regards ian
