How to change the clock time on your Toyota

Adjust the time

A handy reminder on how to change the clock time in your Toyota, hopefully saving you a few minutes in the process!

Key takeaways:

  • British Summer Time adds one hour on the last Sunday of March
  • Greenwich Mean Time subtracts an hour on the last Sunday of October
  • All new Toyota models will automatically adjust the time for you
  • Many older Toyota models will also automatically adjust the time for you
  • In all cases it is possible to manually adjust the time

In the UK, the clocks change twice a year between British Summer Time (BST) and Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). One hour is added on the last Sunday of March, and one hour is subtracted on the last Sunday of October. While you may need to adjust some clocks manually, all new Toyota models will automatically update the time for you.

Automatic time adjustment has been available in selected Toyota models since the early 2010s. These models feature clocks that are integrated into their multimedia systems, which use either connected services, GPS information and satellite data, or a connection to your mobile phone to keep track of the correct time.

If it is necessary, owners can override this automatic function. Detailed instructions on how to manually adjust the time can be found in the owner’s handbook. However, the subheadings below provide simplified instructions on how to do this, based on the multimedia systems installed from the factory.

How do I change the clock time on cars with a Toyota Touch multimedia system?

The following new models with Toyota Touch / Touch 2 / Touch 3 multimedia systems are designed to automatically adjust the time by synchronising with your mobile phone. This function applies to both the digital clock within the multimedia system and digital clock within the multi-information display in the instrument cluster.

How do I change the clock time on cars with a Toyota Smart Connect multimedia system?

What if my new Toyota model isn’t listed above?

The new Toyota Urban Cruiser (below), Toyota Proace Verso and Toyota Proace City Verso are equipped with different multimedia systems to those listed above. However, they are still designed to automatically update the time using GPS satellite information.

To manually override this automatic function, follow the simple steps below:

  • Urban Cruiser: touch the digital clock display on the top of the multimedia home screen to enter the time settings menu. Select Date/Time Settings then use the up/down cursors to manually adjust the hour/minute. Touch Confirm to store the new time.
  • Proace Verso and Proace City Verso: select the Settings menu in the top banner of the home screen, then press the Options button to access the secondary page. Select Setting the time-date followed by pressing either the Date or Time tabs and adjust using the numeric keypad. Confirm any changes by pressing OK.

How do I change the clock time on a recently discontinued or older Toyota?

The above instructions cover all new Toyota passenger car models. If your vehicle is not listed, we suggest looking through your owner’s manual for specific instructions on how to manually change the clock time. If you do not possess a hard copy of this manual, owners of Toyota models produced since 2012 can download a digital copy on the Toyota UK website.

  2. I have Toyota Estima imported from Japan to uk. I cannot get model type listed on my V5C.
DVLA states that manufacturer didn’t provide model code and therefore model type cannot be listed in the logbook.
Where do I find model code? Is it just Toyota who is eligible to provide with that code?

    1. Hi Jovita, thanks for your query.

Unfortunately, we cannot provide this information on imported vehicles. We would recommend re-contacting the place of purchase.

      Thanks.

    1. Hi John, thanks for getting in touch.

A trickle charger should be placed directly onto the 12V battery. Your local Toyota Centre can happily assist sourcing one, or there are many options on the aftermarket.

      Thanks,

  5. No of the instructions I could see seem to apply to our 2023 Yaris Cross GR
I did eventually manage to manually change the time using the controls on the steering wheel. Using the arrow kets cycle the central component of the dash until you get to clock, then press and hold down for a few seconds – a single press zeros the minutez. You are now presented with the ability to change from 12 to 24hr,change the hour, and change the minutes. Once complete use the back (curled arrow) to go out of this setting, then the arrow kets to return to whichever info screen you want in the centre.
Couldn’t find this anywhere in the manual, but then my brain isn’t wired in the same way as whoever compiled it and the index – totally perplexing

    1. Hi there, thanks for getting in touch.

Try using the buttons on the steering wheel to navigate to settings.

      Thanks,

      Toyota UK

You should be able to use the steering wheel buttons to navigate to vehicle settings.

      Thanks

  7. I have a 2017 Rav 4 and cannot see how to adjust the time. I can go into ‘Settings’ and then ‘General’ but within that there is no ‘Date and Time’ option visible. I have looked in the handbook but it doesn’t even mention setting the clock. Steering wheel menu options don’t help either. Can anyone assist?

    1. Hi Bill,

      Thanks for your question.

If you would be kind enough to provide us with your vehicle registration number we would be happy to check this for you.

Alternatively, there should be instructions on how to adjust the time in your owners manual.

      Many thanks,
      Toyota UK
