Hilux How To: Using Hill-start Assist Control

To get you underway safely and smoothly every time, all models of the new Toyota Hilux are equipped with Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC).

When setting off on a hill, Hill-Start Assist Control prevents Hilux from rolling backwards as you move away, and for convenience, works both on- and off-road.

Watch our short film to see it in action, or read on below for more details.

Hill-Start Assist Control is completely automatic, so doesn’t require any driver intervention. When you release the parking brake, HAC maintains brake pressure for up to two seconds to prevent Hilux from rolling backwards as you perform a hill-start.

Once the system detects that enough driving force is generated, the brakes are released and Hilux will move smoothly away. Hill-Start Assist Control even works when you need to reverse uphill – a particularly tricky situation.
