Every Toyota in the UK, old or new, purchased outside of or in a Toyota dealer, is eligible to be covered up to ten years or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first) of Toyota warranty. This is provided through an initial three-year manufacturer warranty followed by up to seven years of service-activated warranty. Terms and conditions apply and can be read here.
For the first three years of your new car’s life, the manufacturer warranty is in place and an owner can have the car serviced wherever they choose. After the expiry of the manufacturer warranty, owners who choose to have their Toyota serviced at an official Toyota centre will benefit from an additional 12 months (or 10,000 miles) of warranty, until your car is either ten years old or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first).
The combination of manufacturer warranty and service-activated warranty means Toyota owners can access Toyota warranty of up to 10 years (or 100,000 miles), giving them a chance to relax in the knowledge that they and their vehicle are in safe hands.
The warranty applies to every type of powertrain, from market-leading hybrids and conventional petrol and diesel models to advanced new battery electric vehicles.
Here we answer key questions about the Toyota warranty programme. If you require further information, please let us know in the comments below and we will do our best to answer your queries.
How do I get the Toyota warranty?
From 1 June 2021, all new Toyota vehicles have been sold with a three-year (or 60,000-mile) manufacturer warranty as standard. Following that initial period, Toyota provides a 12-month (or 10,000-mile) warranty with every qualifying service at an official Toyota centre, for up to an additional seven years.
There are no complex formalities. The Toyota warranty is automatically activated on the completion of a scheduled full or interim qualifying service at an official Toyota centre. By keeping to their vehicle’s service schedule, customers can benefit from an extra 12 months (or 10,000 miles) of warranty, year after year, until the ten year or 100,000-mile limit is reached.
How does the Toyota warranty work?
The warranty operates in the same way as the warranties provided on new and approved used Toyota vehicles. Cover is automatic when the vehicle undergoes a scheduled full or interim qualifying service and effective from that date for 12 months or 10,000 miles – whichever is soonest. On vehicles that have service intervals every two years, the cover is for 24 months or 20,000 miles.
There are no forms to sign to obtain the warranty cover and the customer does not have to keep or present any policy documents should they need to make a claim. The warranty status of their vehicle is recorded in the details of their vehicle held by the Toyota network and is noted on the service invoice raised by the centre.
This central record means that a vehicle’s warranty will be recognised at any official Toyota centre, should customers move or choose to have their car serviced at a different approved location.
Following completion of a service where their vehicle qualifies for the warranty, customers will be sent a confirmation email by their centre (subject to them providing an email address for contact).
If a vehicle requires work to be done under warranty, the customer contacts their local Toyota centre in the first instance. They will be able to confirm the warranty status on receiving details of the vehicle.
Which cars are eligible for the new Toyota warranty?
It’s a comprehensive programme that applies to all Toyota passenger cars, Toyota Professional light commercial vans and pick-ups and the latest Toyota GR performance models.
Likewise, there are no exclusions where powertrains are concerned, with the same level of cover provided for hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery electric vehicles and the Mirai hydrogen fuel cell saloon, as well as for models with petrol and diesel internal combustion engines.
Eligible vehicles range from cars just completing the period of their new vehicle warranty, to high-mileage models that have passed through multiple ownerships and have no prior Toyota service history.
What’s covered and what’s not covered?
This new Toyota warranty covers the same parts and labour as the three-year manufacturer’s warranty provided on new Toyota vehicles and the one-year manufacturer warranty that’s standard with approved used vehicles.
It does not include wear and tear items, bodywork, paint, interior trims and maintenance parts. A vehicle health check is part of the service package, which includes all mechanical and electronic parts, which helps potential problems to be detected at an early stage. Any existing defects present at the time of service are excluded from the warranty.
Full terms and conditions can be downloaded from toyota.co.uk.
Although the warranty cover is uniform, different types of vehicle owner will have a different customer experience:
New Toyota vehicles
Customers with new Toyota vehicles will have a three-year/60,000-mile manufacturer’s warranty in place, or, for Toyotas ordered prior to 1 June 2021, a five-year/100,000-mile warranty.
After the expiry of the manufacturer warranty, owners who choose to have a qualifying service at an official Toyota centre will benefit from an additional 12 months (or 10,000 miles) of warranty, until your car is either ten years old or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first).
For vehicles with a two-year service schedule, a 24-month/20,000-mile warranty will automatically be activated. The warranty will then be renewed at each successive qualifying service at an official Toyota centre, until the ten years or 100,000-mile limit is reached.
Approved used Toyota vehicles
Customers with approved used vehicles purchased from the Toyota network will have a 12-month warranty with unlimited mileage, plus one year’s AA roadside assistance cover providing breakdown and recovery services at the customer’s home or roadside.
After the expiry of the manufacturer warranty, owners who choose to have their Toyota serviced at an official Toyota centre will benefit from an additional 12 months (or 10,000 miles) of warranty, until your car is either ten years old or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first).
Used Toyota vehicles
Customers with used vehicles purchased outside the Toyota network can still enjoy the same benefit. Cars registered prior to 1 June 2021 came with a five-year manufacturer warranty. Cars registered after 1 June 2021 carry a three-year manufacturer’s warranty. When those manufacturer’s warranties have expired, the cars automatically qualifies for the Toyota warranty, when it undergoes a qualifying service at a Toyota centre, up until the vehicle is ten years old or reaches the 100,000-mile limit.
‘Lapsed’ and new customers
Lapsed and new customers who have previously chosen to have their vehicle serviced outside the Toyota network can also take advantage of the warranty. There is no requirement for a vehicle to have a history of servicing at an official centre in order to qualify for the warranty; it will be applied from the date the vehicle undergoes a qualifying service at an approved Toyota centre.
Toyota customers with service plans
Customers who have a service plan for their vehicle face no additional costs or changes to the terms of their plan. The warranty will be an additional, added-value benefit when they next undergo a qualifying service .
Toyota warranty and hybrid vehicles
For customers with hybrid vehicles, the Hybrid Health Check forms part of the scheduled servicing. The warranty includes cover for the hybrid battery and components for up to 10 years/100,000 miles. After this time, customers can still extend the cover for up to 15 years with a stand-alone scheduled Hybrid Health Check.
What happens if I take my car to a different Toyota centre for service? How do I prove there is an active Toyota warranty on my vehicle from another centre?
All Toyota centres will be able to access all active warranty contracts. Any necessary warranty work can also be undertaken at any official Toyota dealer.
If I bought a used Toyota, how can I find out if there is an active warranty on it?
Centres will be able to confirm this and can advise on the details and terms of the cover.
How is the Toyota warranty activated?
If the vehicle is eligible, warranty activation is processed automatically by Toyota. The customer doesn’t have do anything.
What does the Toyota warranty cover?
The warranty provides the same cover as the manufacturer’s warranty. Likewise, it does not cover wear and tear items. Full terms and conditions are provided at toyota.co.uk. Local centres will also provide information.
What is the process for making a warranty claim?
If a vehicle requires work under warranty, customers should contact their local centre for advice and make a booking for the necessary repairs to be made.
I have purchased a vehicle with a three-year manufacturer’s warranty. When does it become eligible for the Toyota warranty?
Vehicles purchased on or after 1 June 2021 are covered by a manufacturer’s warranty for three years. The additional warranty benefit can be enjoyed following a qualifying service when the warranty expires, by having the car serviced at an approved Toyota centre.
I have a three-year-old Toyota with an active five-year warranty. Will the Toyota warranty affect this cover?
Vehicles purchased on or after 1 June 2021 are covered by a manufacturer’s warranty for three years. The additional warranty benefit can be enjoyed following a qualifying service when the warranty expires, by having the car serviced at an approved Toyota centre.
I recently purchased a used car from a Toyota centre. When will it be eligible for the Toyota warranty?
Used cars purchased through the centre network are covered by a 12 months/unlimited mileage warranty. Toyota warranty benefits can be enjoyed when the car is brought in for its next scheduled service.
I already have an extended warranty. Can I swap onto this warranty you’re describing here?
Yes, you can cancel a Toyota extended warranty policy and receive a pro-rata refund, provided you haven’t made a claim. Once that is cancelled, you’ll then need to have a qualifying service to activate the new warranty. It may be better to wait until your next service is due! If you purchased an extended warranty through a Toyota centre, the terms and conditions for cancellation may be different.
Can I purchase the Toyota warranty?
No, the warranty is automatically activated following the completion of a full or interim service.
Does the warranty apply to light commercial vehicles and business vehicles?
Yes, it applies to all Toyota vehicles.
Is a Hybrid Health Check still available to extend my Toyota vehicle’s hybrid battery cover?
The Hybrid Health Check is included as part of the service on vehicles less than 10 years old or having less than 100,000 miles on the clock. When a Toyota warranty contract is activated, it will include the hybrid battery cover. When the vehicle is no longer eligible for the 10 year/100,000 mile warranty, extended warranty cover on the hybrid battery and components can be accessed through a stand-alone Hybrid Health Check, up to the vehicle reaching 15 years from the date of first registration.
My vehicle’s service schedule is every two years? How does this affect the warranty?
Where scheduled maintenance is every two years, a warranty contract will automatically be activated and cover the vehicle for two years/20,000 miles until the next qualifying service is due.
Will I receive confirmation that my vehicle is covered by the Toyota warranty?
Centres will advise customers if their vehicle is eligible for the Toyota warranty. When a qualifying service has been completed and the warranty contract has been active, customers will receive a follow-up email. Further questions arising can be answered by the centre which looks after your vehicle.
Does the introduction of the Toyota warranty affect the service plan I’ve purchased for my vehicle?
Customers with a service plan now get more for their money when their vehicle is eligible for a warranty, receiving an extra year’s warranty for their vehicle when it undergoes a qualifying service, up to 10 years or 100,000 miles.
If my vehicle is nine years and 364 days old on the day of service, will a Toyota warranty contract be activated and will it expire the next day?
A full contract will be activated every time an eligible vehicle undergoes a qualifying service. In this example the vehicle will be covered until one day before the 11th anniversary of its first date of registration.
Can I transfer the Toyota warranty to a new owner if I sell my vehicle?
If a vehicle is sold, the new owner inherits the benefits and can continue to extend the warranty by maintaining it at a Toyota centre. The warranty cover applies only to the serviced vehicle and cannot be transferred to another vehicle.
Will the Toyota warranty cover expire if I am late booking my vehicle’s next service?
The vehicle must be serviced before the warranty expires to activate a new contract and maintain the cover. Local centres can provide further advice and help book your next qualifying service.
I own a GR Yaris with a GR Yaris Track Warranty. If I drive my car on track, will this affect my Toyota warranty cover?
Driving the GR Yaris on track would not invalidate the warranty, but terms and conditions still apply. The vehicle can be covered by both the track and Toyota warranties.
The warranty cover on my approved used Toyota includes one year’s AA roadside assistance cover. Is this available with the Toyota warranty?
Roadside cover is not included in the Toyota or Lexus warranty but can be purchased separately if required. The warranty is exceptional value, being provided at no extra cost to the customer beyond the menu pricing of their vehicle’s service.
Are there other benefits to using Toyota centres?
In addition to the warranty, servicing at a Toyota centre provides other significant benefits to customers. Work is carried out by qualified Toyota technicians, using Toyota-approved parts to ensure optimum performance.
Workshop teams are fully equipped and trained work on all the technologies featured in Toyota vehicles, including electrified powertrains and advanced handling and safety systems. Pricing is transparent with a service menu price guarantee for the scheduled servicing requirements for each model.
Toyota customer-focused approach includes an online service booking facility at the customer’s preferred centre. Centres will also make servicing as convenient as possible, with collection and delivery, courtesy cars and while-you-wait servicing options.

I purchased an approved Toyota Aygo in last November. As I 100% trusted Toyota, I even didn’t bother to open the bonnet during purchase. Just after the purchase, I noticed mirrors adjustment is not working and the car is vibrating when it first moves. The car has been barely used. Today I took it to Fish Brothers Swindon to be looked in those issues. However I have been told that these are wear and tear issues and won’t be covered by Toyota warranty. The guy says that the clutch pads and mirrors adjustment wires are worn and these won’t be covered. I can’t tell how I am disappointed by that ‘Toyota Warranty’. I paid so much money for peace in mind but ended up in a scam! For god’s sake how can I wore those parts just by running the car 2k miles!!

Hi Toyota
I bought my Toyota n 2021 January from Steven Eagell Cambridge. I had it serviced in 2022 in Steven Eagell Luton and since moved to Glasgow (and had it serviced here with Macklin Motors Glasgow in 2023).
Last night the battery ran flat and I was told by The AA that the battery is dead and needs replacing. Macklin Motors told me it’s not covered under the 5 years as it is a non-genuine Toyota 12v battery. I called up Steven Eagell who said they never replaced the battery, so I’m unsure how it is non-genuine as this is how I received it when I received the car in 2021.
I have linked an image of the battery before I dropped it off at the dealer: https://i.imgur.com/d5W0G0B.png
The battery states this information:
VARTA
Maintenace Free PY
345 LN1-MF
20Hr 45Ah CCA 286A (EN)
They are asking me to pay £140 for a replacement as it’s non-genuine, which is odd as it should be covered under the 5 year warranty.
I don’t really know what to do, my dealer is saying it’s non-genuine, but if you google the part number all you’ll see is Toyota Hybrid batteries, so somewhere in the build process of my Toyota they supplied me with a non-genuine battery? I even made a topic at https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/216018-hybrid-12v-battery-lookup where someone linked their own battery (identical battery), the only difference is that theirs has a Toyota logo and mine does not for some reason.
I’m unsure who to contact as I need my car repaired but this should be covered under the warranty as I did not change the battery, nor did any service report mention the battery is non-genuine. Part of me wants to pay the 140 they are demanding to change the battery to a genuine and contest the charge via Toyota

If I buy a Toyota from a non Toyota dealer can I activate the toyota extended warranty just by getting it serviced by toyota? I have read that it needs to be a new or, if not, an “Approved Toyota” bought from a Toyota dealership.
Hi Steve, thanks for getting in touch.
Yes, the vehicle does need to be new or an Approved Toyota bought from a Toyota dealership.
Thanks.
Hi I bought a Toyota Prius Plus and now I am the second owner. I confirmed my warranty with the Toyota Service Centre where it was last serviced. It has a warranty until Sep 2024. However, I have an issue with the Cruise control on the car where it is no longer working.
Now as your website and reps state, I am eligible to take my car to any Toyota dealership for servicing/repairs etc. When I called my local dealer in Bedford (Steven Eagell Toyota), they asked me to take it to the same centre where it was last serviced 100 miles away (Jemca Toyota Edgware) in London for warranty issues, is this true?
Also, I have been told there may be a charge for investigating the issue (£156 inc VAT!), whats the point of the warranty in this case? Can you please advise as the tone of the reps at some of your dealships isn’t very welcoming.

Apologies, this response isn’t good enough. You are sending me back in circles as I have to contact the same dealer with the same response. I need to speak to a more centralised Customer relations team. I need to know if I can take my Toyota to any dealer for a claim or if it has to be a specific dealer. Your response is no different to the agents. Can you please advise further?

I have a GT86 that is still under warranty (less than 10 years old, less than 100,000 miles, full service history with Toyota dealers), I am being told that a replacement part (under repair kit SU003-11027) is not covered under the warranty, even though this is a known weak point in this car (and the sister car, the Subaru BRZ, which has an official bulletin for the failure in this part). Is the dealer who is telling me this correct that I should be charged for this part and it’s replacement?
Hi Simon, thanks for getting in touch.
Official Toyota Centres will have the most up to date information on servicing and pricing.
Should you wish to double check with the Warranty team, they can be found here: https://www.toyota.co.uk/help-centre/warranties-and-insurance

Hi
I am currently on a verge of buying a used Toyota Auris 2018 hybrid car with a car registration number of FE18NNP. I wonder if it still has 5 years warranty on the car? If not, is additional warranty of 12 months the better option?
Many thanks in advance.
Regards,
Z
Hi Zaid,
This vehicles manufacturers warranty has expired.
The additional warranty is active on the vehicle until 27th February 2024 or until the vehicle reaches over 10,000 miles in the year period.
Please let us know if you have any further questions.
Thanks.
I am looking To purchase a used Toyota CHR.
I understand that the cars comes with a manufacturer warranty.
Is this 3 or 5 year. I am reading mention of 10 years also.
This vehicle is a hybrid so has a battery.
Can you clarify and help me so I can make an informed decision.
The registration is NX21 FUT
Hi Ryan,
This vehicle has Manufacturer Warranty until July 2026.
After this, this C-HR will be able to benefit from a service-activated warranty up until it is either 10 years old or reaches 100,000 miles – whichever comes first.
The vehicle will need to be serviced at a Toyota Centre to benefit from this service activated warranty.
More FAQs on this can be found in this article but if you have any other questions, please let us know.
Thanks.
Hello,
I bought a Toyota Yaris car (reigistered in 2017) from Cazoo which is outside the Toyota network this month. Can you please confirm if only new or approved cars are eligible to enjoy the Toyota warranty or the used cars purchased outside the Toyota network are also eligible? My confusion comes from the article https://mag.toyota.co.uk/toyota-warranty-how-it-works/, in which it also mentioned that used Toyota vehicles purchased outside the Toyota network can still enjoy the same benefit. If we are eligible, do I need to speak someone or what should I do claim the warranty? Thanks!
—————————
FYI: https://mag.toyota.co.uk/toyota-warranty-how-it-works/
Used Toyota vehicles:
Customers with used vehicles purchased outside the Toyota network can still enjoy the same benefit. Cars registered prior to 1 June 2021 came with a five-year manufacturer warranty. Cars registered after 1 June 2021 carry a three-year manufacturer’s warranty. When those manufacturer’s warranties have expired, the cars automatically qualifies for the Toyota warranty, when it undergoes a qualifying service at a Toyota centre, up until the vehicle is ten years old or reaches the 100,000-mile limit.
Hi Qingling, thanks for your comment.
We would recommend contacting your local Toyota centre to discuss your warranty options.
You can locate your nearest centre here: https://www.toyota.co.uk/find-a-dealer
Thanks.
