Is the Toyota Prius a good car? JD Power thinks so!

The results are in! This year’s influential JD Power Vehicle Ownership Satisfaction Study shows that the Toyota Prius is the UK’s most satisfying small family car to own and run.

Is the Toyota Prius a good car?

Published in the July issue of What Car? magazine, the 2013 JD Power report pools feedback from thousands of people who bought a car between January 2010 and December 2011. These buyers are ideally positioned to evaluate their vehicles in terms of reliability, practicality and desirability. In addition, dealer service standards were rated, as were the costs involved in running these cars.

Toyota Prius topped the Small Family Car category, and its impressive 81.4% owner rating secured the vehicle ninth place overall — a position it shared this year with the Lexus IS. Incidentally, the second-placed vehicle in the Small Family Car category came in 17th position.

After analysing the data and written feedback from owners, What Car? made these comments about the current Prius: “The world’s best-selling hybrid wowed UK owners for another year. They rewarded the car’s performance by making it not just category winner, but by keeping it in the top ten of the overall satisfaction index.

“The car still crushes most of its competition as far as its owners are concerned, particularly when it comes to fuel economy. Owners rated it top of its field in 17 categories, and said the Prius was not only practical but comfortable and serene to drive. Gear transitions were smooth, while the interior was quiet with no intrusion of wind noise.

“Toyota’s dealer network added extra gloss to the Prius experience, with some of the lowest charges in the class reported by owners. They also rated the service experience, praising dealers’ booking flexibility and the helpfulness and patience of service advisors. Facilities were easy to get to and park up at, while they were also rated the cleanest, with lots of creature comforts while customers waited.”

The conquering performance of Prius was recently supported in JD Power’s 2013 Vehicle Dependability Study for the North American market, where the model topped the Compact Car segment.
