How does the idea of a Prius convertible strike you? Such a model could be on the cards, as the Toyota Aqua Air concept has appeared at the Tokyo motor show.
The open-top concept could point toward the introduction of a convertible hybrid model to the Toyota range.
There are few details so far about the bright pink concept, but it is based on the Aqua, which is marketed as the Prius C in the United States. No direct equivalent is sold in Europe – the closest match is the Toyota Yaris Hybrid.
Clearly designed to appeal to fans of small, fun cars, the Aqua Air is a sporty and sleek-looking machine, with a wide trapezoidal grille and triangular headlights. It measures 3,990mm in length, is 1,690mm wide and 1,440mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2,550mm.
The design study uses the same hybrid powertrain as the Aqua G Sports – a 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine, an electric motor and a CVT transmission. Maximum power is 100 horsepower, with fuel economy rated at 2.82 litres per 100km, or 100 miles per gallon.
The Aqua Air joins the likes of FT-86 Open concept, the JPN Taxi concept and the Toyota i-ROAD on the Toyota stand at the show. See our full Tokyo Motor Show report here.

Hello Paul
Thanks for your post. Good to hear you like the Aqua Air.
No news at this stage about which markets this car will be going to as it is a concept at this stage. Keep in touch with Toyota in the US for any updates.
Hope this helps.
I think Aqua Air has a great potential for a lot of sales. Small but fancy 🙂
Thanks for your post Ivelina.
This is a concept car at present however we do appreciate your feedback.
Best wishes
