Toyota Apple CarPlay and Android Auto upgrade

Toyota is pleased to announce that owners of Corolla and RAV4 models produced since *2019 now have the possibility of an upgrade to their Toyota Touch 2 multimedia system to include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto mobile integration.

Compatible vehicles for Apple CarPlay upgrade:

  • MY19 Corolla in all body styles and grades
  • MY19 and MY20 RAV4 all grades excluding Icon

This multimedia upgrade allows owners to access the services included in their mobile phone on the multimedia display screen and action them through voice activation or by manually prompting through the steering wheel controls or touchscreen itself. In this way they will be able to safely enjoy applications such as Google Maps, Spotify, Amazon Music, WhatsApp and Waze without the need to directly interact with their mobile phone.

The Apple CarPlay and Android Auto upgrade for compatible vehicles will be carried out by appointment at your local Toyota centre. Toyota recommends that owners arrange to have the upgrade installed during a scheduled service.

* Depending on vehicle and specification, Toyota has installed its enhanced multimedia system as standard equipment since the 2020 model year. This means that vehicles with this system always feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality.

  1. Hello. Will this upgrade work on 2019 Land Cruiser Active?
    If not, is it possible to replace the multimedia system with the new 9” Toyota Touch® 2 with Apple CarPlay & Android Auto?

  2. I have a RAV4 2019, I am in the U.S. and uses Android.
    Is my car eligible for that upgrade? Or only for drivers in the UK?

      We cannot advise on the possibility of retrofit on your vehicle. You’d need to ask your local Toyota Centre in the US directly.

      There will be no Apple CarPlay/Android Auto retrofit for the C-HR as the multimedia system is incompatible with the software.

  4. Will this be available for 2019 C-HR Hybrid and if not why not. The 2019 C-HR is advertised as having Carplay but my vehicle definitely does not have it.

      The multimedia system in previous generations of the C-HR is incompatible with the Apple CarPlay/Android Auto software so retrofit will not be available.

      1. My car dealer told me my C-HR had it when I picked it up it did not. He said I need to wait for update?

        There isn’t currently a retro-fit option available for the C-HR, sorry.

        The current generation C-HR Hybrid now features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. You can enter your VIN via this link to access your online owner’s manual to find out if yours should have this feature.

  6. I am in South Africa. My 2020 RAV4 VX (VIN JTMY43FV60D506453) needs a retrofit for Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, but none of the dealers in South Africa appear to have information on how to obtain the software to do the retrofits. Please can you assist by referring me/us to the appropriate source for this information. Since the RAV4 vehicles sold in South Africa are all built in England, it makes sense that they should be eligible for the same retrofit as UK-registered RAV4s. All we are missing is the software. Please, please help all South African RAV4 owners to get the retrofit.

    I got a hybrid corolla 2019 excel model. But it doesn’t have apple carplay. Is it upgradable? And how?

  10. Hello,

    I have a 2019 toyota rav4 (69 number plate) UK model. I believe i can get the upgrade but don’t find the option to select that during my service. Could you please let me know how i can get this upgraded?
