Official: Toyota GT86 TRD confirmed for UK

Toyota GT86 TRD

After months of speculation, Toyota has finally confirmed that a TRD tuned version of the Toyota GT86 will be sold in the UK.

The Toyota GT86 has proved a huge hit among car enthusiasts since its launch last year. The new Toyota GT86 TRD will build upon that with a series of subtle modifications aimed at improving the car’s looks, and its suspension.

Just 250 examples of the GT86 TRD will be available, each equipped with design and performance features from TRD (Toyota Racing Development), one of the world’s most accomplished and successful after market engineering businesses.

On sale from March 1st, the GT86 TRD will be available with either a six-speed manual or automatic gearbox and in a choice of two colours: Pearl White and GT86 Black. On the road prices are £31,495 for the manual and £32,995 for the auto.

The TRD equipment package includes 18-inch cast TF6 alloys, deep front and side skirts, a rear bumper spoiler and a fast-response quad-exhaust system with a rear diffuser to increase stability. A TRD-branded radiator cap and fuel filler cover are also included, as well as a new TRD gear shift lever.

Acceleration and maximum speed are unchanged at 7.7 seconds for 0-62mph and 140mph for the manual and 8.4 seconds and 130mph for the automatic. There are slight changes in fuel consumption and emissions: 192g/km and 34.9mpg for the manual and 181g/km and 36.2mpg for the automatic (all figures official combined cycle).

GT86 is the first UK Toyota for which official TRD parts have been used to create a specific production model grade.

An early GT86 TRD concept first appeared at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last summer, while TRD announced its own plans to build a GT86 race car in January.

It has also received major accolades from Top Gear magazine, Autocar, Auto Express and many more top motoring publications, while earlier this week the first GT4 racing version was announced by race specialists GPRM.

  1. This is brilliant news for someone who wants a more focused version of an already incredible award-winning piece of perfection.

  2. Hi George,
Unfortunately there is no option to purchase the individual TRD parts. We do break the latest news on our blog so please do keep checking back for the latest.
    Hope you’re loving your GT86!
    Many thanks.

  3. So over £5k for a bodykit, exhaust, wheels, radiator cap, fuelcap cover and a shift knob? I hope it comes with alcantara interior and Toyota nav at that price. Why not use the duckbill spoiler from the JDM TRD kit. Sorry guys….. you have struck a dud here. I was waiting for TRD parts for my GT86 from a UK dealer, i’ll just import them now myself and it will probs be cheaper. I love the GT86 and what it stands for but who is going to pay this with no performance gain over stock (ok maybe 5bhp from the exhaust). Get a stock GT86, import a bodykit and spend the change on a remap and exhaust. Or just spend the £5k on a supercharger to not lose the linear power delivery. Either way I dont see the value of this model.

  4. If you’re only producing it in black or white, why do you have a promotional video showing red and white models with TRD on them?

    1. Hi James,
Thanks for the comments. The video is simply a promotional video showing the GT86 TRD spec. Currently only white and black is available to purchase however we’ll keep you posted on the Toyota blog should further options become available.
      Many thanks.

  5. I totally agree with Jonathan. This is not the TRD Version that we were expecting and at around £6500 more than the standard version it should have the FULL TRD Parts list. For this kind of money you are better off buying a normal GT86 and then purchasing all the TRD parts seperately off the internet from Japan (£3050.37 + Delivery + Fitting). Now i dont expect Toyota to include the TRD Big Brembo brake kit at this price (The standard brakes are awesome). But i do believe at this price the rest of the TRD Catalog for this car should be included. TRD Spoiler, TRD Air Filter, TRD Push Start Button, TRD Oil Cap, TRD Oil Filter, TRD Front Pads, TRD Rear Pads, TRD Front Strut Brace, TRD Member Brace, TRD Door Stablizers, TRD Brake Hoses, TRD Shocks/Springs & the TRD Roll Bars. This little lot is £3679.84 + Delivery + Fitting. So combine the two and then you roughly see the extra £6500 that you are asking for. Seeing as these are the retail part prices i would expect you not to have any problems including this all within the £31995.00 price tag. With this kind of spec i would buy one in a heartbeat, but with the spec being offered its a rip off.

    1. Hi Lee,
      Apologies for the delayed response.
The GT86 TRD is a limited-edition grade of which only 250 examples will be available in the UK. The parts included are of the high quality (hand-finished in certain instances) you would expect from TRD, one of the world’s most accomplished motorsport companies, and as such are Toyota Genuine Parts.
Introducing the TRD as a full model grade brings benefits in terms of residual value and recognition from the insurance industry, which would not be achieved through sourcing individual parts.
Although it may be possible to source TRD parts from Japan, there is currently no option for us at Toyota GB to supply the parts separately.
As you pointed out, the prices you quoted would be subject to additional delivery and fitting costs, which would likely be fairly substantial given the time required to fit the parts.
Your Dealer will be able to go through the finer points of the GT86 TRD and will happily get you behind the wheel.
      Many thanks.

      1. I just see this one being a hard sell as £31.5k is a heck of a lot of money where there is no performance upgrade over the standard car (which is great value at £24k). Im sorry, but its just a sheep in wolfs clothing with all this bling on. It pains me to say that as I LOVE my GT86 but its still good to see Toyota bringing more GT86 goodies to the table.

      2. Will the auris trd also be available in the UK to purchase. As i have never come across this.

Also had Toyota Motorsport (formaly TTE) stopped making accessories for Toyota Cars?

        Look forward to a responce

  6. Why are all Japanese cars only available in dull colours hint if you start selling it in a bright yellow (not just any yellow) I’ll be down the dealership to order, till then I’ll stick with my 20 year old yellow Delta Integrale that catches everyones attention!
