The Toyota TRD GT86 – latest images

It’s being described as the ultimate road going evolution of the new Toyota GT86 sports car.

The Toyota Racing Development GT86 gets sharper looks and handling thanks to a range of subtle modifications focused on improving the car’s pace and performance.

Badged TRD GT86, the car was revealed at the Tokyo Auto Salon early in 2012. It also took a starring role at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Now, the TRD tuned GT86 has hit the road here in the UK. These are the very first pictures.

While the car’s engine remains standard, modifications include changes to the suspension, exhaust and aerodynamics. Sales are set to begin in January 2013.

Check out our guide to the car, below.

Exterior modifications:
The TRD GT86 gets a lower front spoiler, complete with aerodynamic ‘fins’ ahead of the front wheels.

There are wider side skirts, to help improve high speed stability. Under the car, there’s a venturi style under spoiler.

The boot is equipped with a larger wing.

New 18 inch forged aluminium wheels are offered, fitted with Michelin tyres. And if you look under the bonnet, you’ll find a carbon fibre suspension strut brace, and a TRD badged oil filler cap.

As a final touch, the car gets a TRD badged fuel filler cap.

Interior modifications:
Inside, new sports “bucket” seats are fitted, and there’s additional instrumentation for those who intent to use their car on track.

  • Called the Sports Meter Link System, information includes water temperature, and oil temperature and pressure.
  • There’s a new red push button start switch, and a TRD badged gear shift knob too.

Mechanical Parts:
You’ll find the biggest changes under the skin of the car. There’s a new adjustable suspension system and thicker anti-roll bars front and rear.

A powerful, mono block brake kit replaces the standard set up with larger calipers and 355mm front and 345mm rear grooved and vented rotors.

Finally, a new exhaust system is fitted, to improve engine response.
