Toyota Safety Sense active safety technologies provide a high degree of protection across a wide range of driving situations. Below is a brief explanation of the different systems that make up Toyota Safety Sense – availability of these may vary across Toyota models. We’ve also prepared short films that show you how the system functions in the all-new Toyota Yaris, Toyota C-HR, Corolla, RAV4 and Aygo.

Pre-Collision System (PCS) uses a radar detector and front camera to detect objects ahead of your vehicle. If PCS detects a collision is imminent, it audibly and visually alerts you. In addition, PCS can automatically apply the brakes to prevent or lessen the seriousness of a collision. Lastly, you can also adjust the sensitivity of PCS to your preference.
Lane Departure Alert (LDA) monitors road markings on faster roads to detect if your Toyota is drifting out of its lane. If it is triggered, you will receive a visual alert on your Toyota’s multi-information display. LDA won’t activate if the indicators are in use, and the system can be turned off if required. In some models, LDA is enhanced with Steering Assist which can apply corrective steering if the system is triggered.
Lane Tracing Assist (LTA) helps your car to stay centred in its lane by monitoring the road markings. This can reduce the risk of collision and relieves some of the burden on you, the driver. This function of Toyota Safety Sense operates in conjunction with Adaptive Cruise Control meaning your journeys in congested traffic are less stressful.
Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) maintains a constant speed until your Toyota comes up behind another vehicle. ACC can then adjust your car’s speed to maintain a fixed distance to the car ahead. When the road is clear, ACC will accelerate to resume your previous cruising speed.
Road Sign Assist (RSA) recognises specific road signs and displays this information on your Toyota’s multi-information display. To keep you on the right side of the law, it will issue audible and visible alerts if necessary. In addition, RSA works with ACC to regulate your vehicle’s speed.
Automatic High-Beam System (AHS) improves visibility for you and other drivers by adapting your Toyota’s headlights automatically. It uses a camera to monitor the light from other vehicles and street lighting and adapts your car’s headlight beam accordingly.

Why does the ‘speed adjust’ function on the cruise control operate in 5mph increments? I note from the manual that this is ‘Europe only’ and ‘Non Europe’ systems will increment in 1mph steps. Can this function be modified as I find that in many instances the system is unworkable and a liability. Had I realised the system was so badly designed it would have made me think twice about buying a Corolla as I use cruise control on a regular journey covered by SPECS cameras and the ability to vary the set speed slightly in traffic was something I accepted as a normal feature in all my recent cars (Mazda / VW / Honda)

There are two cruise control systems fitted to your vehicle. Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is activated when you press the button on the steering wheel once. As this system automatically speeds up and slows down according to other vehicles on the road, the increments are set at 5mph. This is essentially to help you overtake on motorways more easily. If you press and hold the cruise control button on the steering wheel, you will activate normal cruise control, which can be changed in 1mph increments.

5mphtoo much! If you want to overtake just push the gas maybe? Personally i hate the cruise control in my CHR. Will find a way to turn off the radar completely. Wants to help but it doesn’t. I am driving the car, why it wants to overwrite?
On Aygo does 1 circle or 3 mean it will activate sooner??

The 3 Circle setting refers to the “far” setting, meaning warning will begin to operate earlier.

On new 2022 Corolla Hybrid Sedan with TSS 2.0 including Blind Spot Monitor (BSM), the Lane Trace Assist (LTA) operating in Dynamic Cruise Control appears to keep quite close (15-20mm/6-8 inches) to right side of lane on well marked motorways, and quite close to Centre marking on well marked A roads. Is this normal, and I should get used to it, or can/should distance from right lane marking be adjusted/calibrated by the dealer?

It sounds like the vehicle is staying within the designated lane so the system is working as expected.
We would recommend familiarising yourself with the system and its expected function to determine if it is operating as expected.

My 2019 Yaris Y20 has stopped accurately telling me the speed limit on the roas I am on. This happened a couple of monthscago. I now drive around sometimes in 20 mile area and suddenly the car will say I’m in a 70 mile road and then 30 then nothing. Have I pressed something to make this happen.
