2023 Toyota RAV4 gets multimedia and safety upgrades

The 2023 Toyota RAV4 has unveiled a series of upgrades and a raft of enhancements that focus on improving life on board with new multimedia systems and a customisable new digital driver’s instrument display. Safety is enhanced, too, with new functions added to the Toyota Safety Sense systems. The changes are rolled out across the full range of hybrid electric and plug-in hybrid electric models, making the world’s original and best-selling recreational SUV an even more desirable proposition.

2023 Toyota RAV4: new multimedia system

The new RAV4 adopts Toyota’s latest multimedia system which features a larger,10.5-inch screen with a high-definition colour display.

The standard system provides cloud-based navigation that allows for accurate journey planning with information that’s constantly updated, plus live details of traffic and road events and how easy or hard it might be to find a parking place near your destination.

Thanks to the included four-year over-the-air “Smart Service” data package, customers can access Toyota’s latest multimedia and navigation systems without having to pair their smartphones to the vehicle.

2023 Toyota RAV4

The user experience is seamless with the accompanying MyT smartphone app, so customers can keep track of various vehicle information, such as driving analytics, fuel levels, warnings and “find my car” function. There’s also the time-saving convenience of being able to use the app to book service and maintenance appointments at Toyota centres.

Smartphone integration with Android Auto® is available and for added convenience, wireless smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay® is featured as standard.

There are more ways to communicate with your car using the new on-board voice agent that will respond to spoken requests to adjust the climate control, choose multimedia options, make a phone call, or open and close the windows. “Hey Toyota” is designed to understand conversational speech, so if you say “I’m cold” it will respond by closing the windows or raising the air conditioning temperature.

A further, optional multimedia system is also available, offering additional functions. It introduces an embedded navigation system that will operate when no data connection is available. It also recognises highway signs and can provide local weather alerts and notify the driver of restricted LEZs (low emission zones).

Remote services

The new RAV4 comes with more remote functions the driver can make use of without having to be in or near their vehicle. The familiar worries about whether you have left a window open, the doors unlocked or the lights on after you’ve walked away from your car are addressed with remote notifications to confirm the vehicle is secure. This feature is standard on all new RAV4 models.

You can also lock and unlock the doors – a handy feature if someone without a key needs access, for example to drop off a parcel or to clean the car. The hazard lights can also be flashed, making the vehicle easier to spot in a big or busy car park. These features are newly standard on mid-grade models, together with remote operation of the climate control to warm up or cool the cabin before making a journey.

2023 Toyota RAV4: new digital combimeter

It’s a feature of all-new Toyota models that the driver can view and take in key vehicle data at-a-glance, so there is the least distraction from their focus on driving and the road ahead. The new RAV4 introduces a new digital combimeter in the instrument binnacle that comes with flexible display settings. There is a choice of four styles and three layouts and personalisation options for the 12.3-inch display so the driver can choose the most relevant information needed between the numerical speedometer and digital dials, as well as other information such as an eco-driving meter, audio track information, or Adaptive Cruise Control display, among others.

2023 Toyota RAV4

These layouts are presented in four different style themes for a more customised look and feel: Casual, Smart, Sport and Tough.

The new unit is standard on all grades apart from the entry-level Icon model which uses a 7-inch version of the combimeter.

2023 Toyota RAV4: enhanced Toyota Safety Sense

The new RAV4 gains enhanced Toyota Safety Sense functions that can warn the driver and help avoid a wider range of common road accident risks.

The Pre-Collision System (PCS) gains intersection support that can help with safer turns at junctions. It will detect if the car is about to cross the path of any oncoming traffic, and if there are any pedestrians crossing the road into which the vehicle is moving, alerting the driver and, if necessary, initiating braking control to help avoid an impact.

Emergency Steering Assist is also newly provided, helping the driver avoid a pedestrian who has stepped into the road while keeping the car under control and within its traffic lane. On the RAV4 Plug-in, the system will also recognise and react to bicycles and parked vehicles. The RAV4 Plug-in’s PCS also gains the ability to detect oncoming vehicles in the car’s traffic lane and reduce the risk of a head-to-head collision.

New exterior colour

A new Platinum White Pearl exterior colour is being introduced for all grades of the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid and Hybrid. Dynamic grade will see the introduction of a Platinum White Pearl bi-tone with Midnight Black Metallic for both variants.

Production of the 2023 Toyota RAV4 will begin during the third quarter of this year.

  1. I have just taken delivery of the new 2023 Toyota RAV4 Dynamic. Unfortunately the customer handbook given with this vehicle is from the previous model. How do I get one for my vehicle

      1. Hello,

Does the RAV4 hybrid ICON come with built-in satnav, or do I need to pair my iPhone with the car to use the navigation feature?

        Thanks

      2. Hi there,
Please provide your vehicle registration so we can look into this for you.
        Thanks.

    1. Hi Eric
when did you order the vehicle and is the equipment the same as the order?
I have been trying to get some joy from Toyota and the local dealership but neither can tell me when the new car is available to order, they keep referring back to the other,

    2. Why has toyota removed blind spot monitoring and rear crossing warning indicators without telling people who have waited for 11 months for their car for it to arrive without these items although they were included when the car was ordered. Can the car be retrofitted with both?

  2. I have a 21plate rav4 hybrid i am very pleased with the car the only disappointment is there’s no light in the glove compartment and the window and door switches are not illuminated

  3. We are awaiting the delivery of a RAV 4 plugin, we were expecting it April (our 4th Toyota from the same dealership). However, we have now been told September. This is apparently due to a “Model Update”. Our dealership cannot give us any information as to what exactly the updates are, given that they have given a delivery date of September, I am assuming someone somewhere must know what is going into this car? Or perhaps the car will just roll of the assembly line with a bit of the old spare Auris parts, few Corolla bits and may be some BZ parts!!
Very disappointing the way this is all been handled, Toyota UK you need to get your act together and give your customers the service they deserve, they are, after all paying for it! Please let me have the spec for the new car, or a link to it. Please Do Not refer me to the dealership as they have no idea either and have referred me to you.

    1. Hi Paul, thanks for your comment.

We understand your frustration and apologise for the inconvenience this has caused.

Currently, we have no information on the specification of the MY24 RAV4. However, we can assure you that if your MY23 RAV4 order is converted to MY24, it will be price protected.

If you would like to discuss this further, please contact our Customer Relations Team here: https://www.toyota.co.uk/help-centre#/iframe/https%3A%2F%2Fforms.toyota.co.uk%2Fcontact-us.

      Thanks.

      1. Hi,
Thanks for your reply. However, the reply does not quite make sense. The RAV 4 can no longer be ordered and hasn’t been available for quite a time, therefore, Toyota must know what they are doing to fulfill all the outstanding orders. The “model update” we have been told about must have been decided a long time ago to enable production for this year. I find it baffling that no information is available. I take it all the manufacturing of the RAV has ceased?

Looks like the only option is to wait for Toyota to wake up.

      2. Hi Paul,

We anticipate that all MY23 orders will be fulfilled as required. If this situation changes, we will update accordingly.

As previously stated, should any MY23 orders be converted to MY24, they will be price protected.

        Thanks.

      3. I have now been waiting for our new RAV4 for 18months which is just outrageous, when we bought the car in January 2022 we was told it will arrive in September 2022 and yet everyone month we receive a email from the dealership with another ETA date which is now July 2024! I have lost faith in contacting the dealership as they have no information about the car as we have stressed we want to make sure we get a 2024 now and with all the extras we have bought but yet they still can’t advise! Actually think this is shocking customer service! As recently I was shopping in westfields in White City where you had a fore court promoting the new RAV4 and with a demo to view for people to order the vehicles but yet you still have customers that bought there car over a year ago yet to receive it but your wanting more customers! That demo sitting in westfields shopping centre should be with an owner that has bought the car! Not happy what so ever! Greedy Toyota with greedy salesman! Wish I went with Kia or Honda! Now we are tied with the contract! Hoping when our vehicle does arrive that there will be free servicing added as we have had to wait this long! I will be providing all this information I have sent you to Watchdog where they can look into this matter further.

      4. Hi Hollie, thanks for your comment.

  4. I’d really like to order a RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid but I’m now very confused about A) if I can actually order one and B) if I can order one, when will it be delivered and C) what the new specifications are, i.e. will they have the 306hp engine or if the RAV4 GR Sport will be available…this surely must be hurting Toyota GB sales….please can I have an update on A, B and C as above? I have purchased two Toyotas in as many years and they are both great and the service has been excellent which is why I’m a little confused and disappointed at how the RAV4 situation is being handled.

    1. Hi Mike, thanks for your comment.

We understand your frustration and apologise for the inconvenience this has caused.

  5. Hello, posting this here for others info. I found this link to a potential UK MY23 Rav4 PHEV spec: https://media.toyota.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/sites/5/pdf/230123M-RAV4-Plug-in-Press-Pack.pdf
Looks to me like some of the premium features that were present in the 2022 model are now removed (HUD, Cooling seats, Drivers seat memory, powered passenger seat), somewhat disappointing. I ordered the Dynamic Premium model with all extras in March 2022…finally got the notification last week (over a year after ordering) that it is being built in Japan and should be delivered mid-June.

  6. I am totally confused now. Will Toyota be producing any RAV4 self-charging hybrids for 2023? I had my 2021 RAV4 stolen and have been told by the dealership there would be a new 2023 model which will have fixed the ease in which these can be stolen (2020 up to the 2022 model via the on board diagnostics panel). However all I keep hearing is oh you can’t get them there is a long waiting list. I have been a Toyota customer for 30 years and now am unable to purchase a new car of the same calibre. Please can someone for Toyota UK confirm what is the exact situation. Thanks.

    1. Hi Jackie, thanks for your question.

We are sorry to hear that you’ve been a victim of vehicle theft.

The MY23 RAV4 cannot be ordered anymore. However, you can sign up here for updates on the MY24 RAV4: https://forms.toyota.co.uk/sign-up-rav4.

If you would like to discuss the theft of your RAV4 further, we would recommend contacting our Customer Relations Team. You can find them here: https://www.toyota.co.uk/help-centre#/iframe/https%3A%2F%2Fforms.toyota.co.uk%2Fcontact-us.

      Thanks.

  7. Like many people here we ordered a RAV4 Dynamic Premium, for us in March 2022. Obviously it has not arrived, we were told Sept, then Dec, then Jan then Nov 2023, now it’s June 2023. It’s also now a Dynamic with the loss of some of the key features we wanted. But it’s arriving apparently! Except we have no idea what is coming and if that is acceptable. The dealership stopped taking our calls or emails to find out what was going on. That sales person has now left by the way. New person tried to sort out what price difference there would be as we’re now getting a lower spec. The General Sales Manager with whom he consulted now says that all the specs have gone up in price since ordering so we won’t get much difference in price, despite NOT getting the model we want and waiting longer than any other car customer I know! Basically suck it up. (friend’s Kia Sportage ordered same time but delivered in Nov 2022). Lovely!!! Dealership = dishonourable conmen and the Toyota customer service number just said now that it’s closed!! (Not surprised really, no-one’s happy with them). This is my first Toyota experience. Mmmmm what do I think of this brand…!!! Absolute shocker of mismanagement of a situation. Brilliant own goal in how to treat customers. Nothing nice to say about any of this experience. No confidence even if we get the car (looking at Hyundais now tbh) as think they will con us at every life stage of this car.
PS Toyota, please don’t insult me by copying and pasting the usual drivel of “speak to the dealership (we TRIED) or contact customer services (they SHUT the PHONE line!)”. If I were you, I’d find another job Toyota person! Looks like this brand is not for lasting in the UK.

    1. Hi, thanks for your comment.

We are very sorry to hear about this situation and apologise for the frustration and dissapointment that this has caused.

If you would like to send your contact details, Toyota Centre and details of your case to toyota.blog@tgb.toyota.co.uk, we will set up a Customer Relations case for you.

      Thanks.

    2. I wasn’t sure what to expect looking at the many comments, I ordered my RAV March 2022 a plug in dynamic premium fully loaded pan roof etc etc and with running boards, Toyota have emailed me to say it’s arrived at the dealership, Toyota emailed me and said it’s the latest new upgrade 23 model and the full dynamic premium specification with options I originally ordered and agreed, Toyota have emailed the fixed discount price as ordered in early 2022 including the low rate finance at the time. I’m going to see the car next week.

  8. Well I am gobsmacked! I thought it was bad at Toyota but not this bad. I ordered my RAV4 Dynamic Premium Pack Jan 2022 and it has been like pulling teeth getting any sort of response from the branch. I am still none the wiser of when I will get it, last date given was Aug 2023 but now I read things are possibly going to be missing from the pack I ordered! Absolute farce! How on earth can a so called quality driven company like Toyota behave and deliver customer service like this! Even worse you only find out the issues on forums like this as you cannot get hold of anyone. Definitely one for BBC Watchdog.

  9. Hi
I ordered rav4 excel in 2021 1. Do they still make if so will I be getting soon 2. With the excel will it have the full spec could you let me know

    1. Hi Dave,
      Thanks for your comment.
Your Toyota Centre would be best placed to assist you with this queries.
      Thanks.
