The Toyota Hilux has worked hard to earn its reputation as one of the world’s most trusted and capable pick-ups. But there is much more to the 2021 Toyota Hilux than that. More than ever, we feel it is a vehicle that strikes an optimal work/life balance.
As explained below, the 2021 model year has brought numerous changes to deliver on that promise. The suspension has been modified to create more dynamic on-road performance and a new 2.8-litre engine is now available. Equipment specifications have also been upgraded to keep pace with connectivity, entertainment and safety, while new external styling revisions enhance its presence.
2021 Toyota Hilux equipment: multimedia package
All new Hilux models from Icon grade upwards are equipped with the latest Toyota Touch 2 multimedia system, which features upgraded software to improve its responsiveness. On the flagship Invincible X grade (as below), the functionality includes satellite navigation. Smartphone integration through Apple CarPlay or Android Auto is another new feature and provided as standard from Icon grade upwards.
The richness of the Hilux Invincible X’s on-board infotainment extends to a powerful nine-speaker JBL Premium Sound audio system, with an eight-channel amp, 244mm subwoofer and Clari-Fi technology to optimise the quality of compressed digital audio files.
2021 Toyota Hilux: choose your body
As before, customers can choose the Hilux body style that best suits their needs: Single Cab for a focus on work; Extra Cab, when occasional extra seating is needed; and Double Cab, with five-seat, four-door convenience, generous deck space and formidable all-wheel-drive performance.
Active grade can be specified in all body styles, while Icon, Invincible and Invincible X are only available in Double Cab format. The new 201bhp 2.8-litre engine (below) is an option on Invincible and Invincible X models only.
2021 Toyota Hilux equipment: grades explained
The new Hilux retains the established grade line-up of Active, Icon, Invincible and Invincible X, the features of which are explained below.
Active: This grade is designed and specified primarily with work duties in mind. It offers 17-inch steel wheels, a rear differential lock and easy-care PVC upholstery on Single Cab and Extra Cab models. Standard specification includes air conditioning, automatic headlights, radio and CD player, Bluetooth connectivity and a USB port. Toyota Safety Sense is also provided, which features a Pre-Collision System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert and Road Sign Assist.
Icon: This grade introduces new 17-inch alloy wheels, LED front fog lights, side steps, privacy glass, fabric upholstery, a reversing camera and power folding door mirrors. New features include the Toyota Touch 2 multimedia and smartphone integration (as above), DAB radio and an automatic limited-slip differential.
Invincible: This grade builds on its current specification with front and rear parking sensors, LED rear lights, new 18-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats and windscreen wiper de-icer. Other key items include LED headlights, smart entry, push-button start and automatic air conditioning.
Invincible X: Sitting at the top of the range, this grade (as above) is kitted out with a muscular styling package that includes body mouldings, exclusive front bumper and tailgate handle. In the cabin there is new ambient door panel lighting and a nine-speaker JBL premium audio system, in addition to dual-tone leather upholstery, heated front seats and power driver’s seat adjustment.
The new Toyota Hilux is on sale now!
Hi
I ordered an Invincible X in January and at the time was told delivery would be in August, I’ve just recently asked SLM Norwich if there’s a firm date yet but no answer.
Wanted to check what the delivery dates are and if any delays?
Thanks
Hi Daryn,
Thanks for your order. Your Toyota centre is best placed to advise on the delivery of your Hilux. Saying that, it’s only May at the moment, and we have no information that suggests vehicles will be delayed.
Thanks
Hi, my Hilux invincible is due next week. Just getting insurance quote but not sure if its fitted with an alarm/immobiliser as standard. If so is it thatcham approved? thanks.
Hi Phil,
Thanks for your order. Your vehicle is fitted with a Thatcham Category 2 – electronic immobiliser.
Thanks
hi would you be able to tell me how to set the factory fitted alarm on my 2021 hilux active so that the dogs dont set it off there is nothing in the owners manual to advise any help would be great
Hi Stephen, thanks for your comment.
You’re looking for an intrusion alarm button, it has an image of a car with three sound waves going into it – potentially located overhead. Any luck?
there is a button below the dash above the knee about the size of a five pence there is a little protrusion sticking out that you can press in but there is no writing on it i think it is something to do with it but not shure it does illuminate sometimes and stays on then sometimes flashes thanks
the reg is nd21 vckhilux active extra cab
I THE TOYOTA DEALER SAYS TRY EXPERIMENTING WITH IT WHILE READING THE BOOK BUT ALL IT SAYS IS PRESS TWICE WITHIN THIRTY SECONDS TO DISABLE INTERIOR SENSORS NOTHING ABOUT THE BUTTON BEING DEPRESSED ANY HELP WOULD BE GRATEFULL
still dosent work will have to go back to toyota thought you mite have had some idea regarding settings if i could have gone back to original settings then put code in it mite have worked
Hi Stephen,
Thanks for your patience whilst we’ve checked this out with our team.
As there is no mention of an intrusion alarm in the Owner’s Manual for your vehicle, it might be the case that your Hilux doesn’t have one.
Your Toyota Centre will be best placed to confirm this.
Thanks.
hi it is back at the dealers today to sort out i mite have worded it wrong but it is mentioned in book that can be downloaded vehicle security system vss3 hilux section2.4 arm without intrusion sensor hopefully they can sort out thanks
alarm sorted you press and hold in the button on the alarm till it flashes three times then exit motor then press key fob inside sensors are then off dogs will not set off alarm the motor is a big improvement on my 2015 model extra cab really like it drives superb and the interior is great to keep clean this is the seventh hilux i have owned since 1988 and all have never had any issues well done
is it possible to buy an upgraded key for my factory fitted alarm so i could activate the alarm off the key fob it would be a lot easier thanks
Hi,
We’re not aware of any upgrade of this kind.
Sorry about that.
Thanks

Hi,
Can you tell us how long it’s roughly taking to receive the invincible x? Ordered in march and got told roughly 3 to 4 months but the latest update is they don’t know and that there’s delays everywhere. Are the delays due to chip shortages?
Thanks,
James
Hi James,
Thanks for your comment.
We would recommend contacting your Toyota Centre for more information. They will be best placed to assist you regarding delivery times.
Thanks.
