2021 Land Cruiser powers up for autumn

The mighty Land Cruiser has been updated for the 2021 model year, a highlight of which is a new 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine that offers more power and greater efficiency.

The new, four-cylinder motor delivers 201bhp at 3,000rpm and peak torque of 500Nm from 1,600rpm. These represent increases of 27bhp and 50Nm over the previous engine, which are in turn reflected in a 2.8-second reduction in the dash from zero to 62mph (now less than ten seconds). Yet this additional muscle brings no penalty in terms of fuel economy or CO2 emissions.

With the benefit of a standard stop-start system, fuel consumption has actually improved; as the new engine meets the UK’s Real Driving Emissions standard it also qualifies for Vehicle Excise Duty that is £325 cheaper in the first year than the outgoing model.

2021 Land Cruiser passenger range

The 2021 Land Cruiser passenger line-up is now available in two grades: Active and Invincible. Each can be specified in three- and five-door formats and with either five or seven seats.

  • Active grade

Active grade marks the new entry point. Its established features include 17-inch alloy wheels, cruise control, air conditioning, smart entry and push-button start, roof rails and heated power door mirrors. The standard specification now gains wireless smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, together with an improved multimedia system fronted by an eight-inch touchscreen with a customisable layout.

  • Invincible grade

The seven-seat Invincible model sits at the top of the Land Cruiser range. As the name of the grade suggests, it is equipped with a comprehensive suite of technically advanced control systems to help it tackle almost every kind of off-road condition. These include Multi-Terrain Select, a rear differential lock, centre Torsen limited-slip differential, Crawl Control, and Adaptive Variable Suspension with electronically modulated rear air suspension.

While being able to deal with challenging conditions, the Land Cruiser Invincible also offers a wealth of comfort and convenience features. These include triple-zone climate control, power steering column and front seat adjustment, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second row seats, leather upholstery, multi-view monitor, 14-speaker JBL Synthesis premium audio system, LED headlights, 19-inch alloys, rear privacy glass and illuminated side steps. The Toyota Safety Sense system is also upgraded with Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Trace Assist, and the ability to warn the driver of potentially unseen pedestrians and cyclists.

New for the 2021 model year is an optional Black Pack, which means that customers who opt for black leather upholstery can also specify an all-black exterior. This covers the front grille, door mirror casings, rear light surrounds, side mouldings and rear garnish, plus clear lenses for the rear light clusters. The look is carried through to the cabin with a black finish across the centre console and transmission tunnel. Black alloy wheels (see image below) can also be specified, as an additional option.

  1. I have tried to find a 3 door, SWB, 5 seater to actually look at. Can you suggest where there might be a brand new one to view? There are very few photos available as well.

    1. Hi J Moore,
Thanks both for your comment and your interest in the Land Cruiser!
The only demonstrator that we have of this particular model is at FRF Motors Swansea.
They can be reached on: 01792 310 200. Alternatively, we can pass your email address over to them – let us know which you’d prefer!
      Thanks.

  2. Is there a spare wheel included in the pricing of a LWB commercial land cruiser (Active)? And if so, where is it located and how is it accessed? And is it on the same alloy or a steel wheel?

    1. Hi James,

Thanks for getting in touch and for your interest in the Land Cruiser. LWB Active grade comes with an alloy full size spare wheel. It is located underneath the rear of the car.

      We hope this helps.

      Thanks

  3. Hi..looking to order new range invinciblei
with black pack.Lical dealer advised now not being launched.any suggestions.. mike

  4. Hi Mike,

I am on my second Land Cruiser 3dr and both have been brilliant. However, both have been manual 6 speeds with back seats – is it still possible to get the 3dr, manual with back seats configuration? I don’t want an auto box and I need the back seats from time to time (I’m not VAT registered either).

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

    Ken

    1. Hi Ken,
Thanks for getting in touch and for your interest in the Land Cruiser!
In terms of passenger vehicles, we only offer the Active grade in a 3dr version, and unfortunately this is only available as an Automatic.
For commercial vehicles, whilst the Utility grade is available as a 3dr manual, it does not come with back seats.
We’re sorry that this doesn’t suit your ideal specifications.
      Thanks.

  5. Is it possible to oder a 3 door Active with a full size or even a space saver spare wheel , with tools and jack? Also is leather upholstery possible as an option?

    1. Hi Robert,
      Thanks for your comment.
The Land Cruiser Active comes with a full size temporary spare wheel.
However, the trims in the Active spec are Kilani Black Fabric.
Please let us know if you have any further questions.
      Thanks.

      1. On the 5th July in a response to Robert you said the Active has a full size alloy wheel which contradicts this answer. Would you clarify please. Thanks.

      2. Hi David,
The Land Cruiser Active comes with a full size spare wheel.
        Thanks.

  6. Hi there,
After a long break since my 2003 and 2005 Landcruiser LC4s (both Ember Red – fantastic colour!) I am ready to place an order for a new Invincible. I have spec’d it up online (Toyota ID jKhwdXKm7D) but my local dealer (Parks, Inverness) does not have a demonstrator. Can you tell me where my closest dealer with a demonstrator would be? I would be happy ordering from anywhere, so long as I can obtain servicing at my local dealer. I’m also a lifelong member of BASC; hopefully their purchase arrangements can be used by any dealer? Many thanks & best wishes.

    1. Hi Colin,
Thanks for your comment and thank you for your interest in the Land Cruiser Invincible.
Struan Toyota Perth have confirmed that they currently have a Bronze Land Cruiser Invincible to view and test drive.
If this is convenient for you, please contact them directly.
      Their telephone number is – 01738 620565
Alternatively, you can use the following link – https://struanperth.toyota.co.uk/contact-us
Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any further questions.
      Thanks.

  7. Hello,
I am interested in purchasing an active grade lwb commercial but cannot find one to look at in the flesh and hopefully test drive. At the moment dealers have usually not even heard of landcruiser commercials and I am struggling a bit at the moment. I am in Hampshire but willing to travel.
    Any ideas?

    Regards,

    Bill Cook

    1. Hi Bill,
Unfortunately, we do not currently have an Active Grade LWB Commercial Land Cruiser demo.
However, we have two centres with SWB demos.
If you would like to test drive one of these, please let us know and we can contact the dealership to arrange this.
      Thanks.

  8. Hi
Very interested in 2021 LandCruiser however need to see one. I life in South Wales and your dealer in Swansea no longer has a demonstrator to see. Where else in reasonable travel distance is there another demonstrator? Do not understand why such a large company has so few demonstrators.
    Thank you.

    1. Hi there,
Thanks for your comment and thank you for your interest in the Land Cruiser.
Dealers are only obliged to keep a vehicle on demo terms for three months.
Therefore, the vehicle can be sold after this time.
Unfortunately, the closest demonstrator will be at Listers Toyota in Grantham, who are expecting delivery at the end of the year.
Please let us know if there is anything else we can do to help.
      Thanks.

  9. You cannot buy the new model in UK. There are no model available. You have to order one and there is a one year waiting time. So no Toyota dealer can offer a figure on PCP or hp if you want to part exchange your old car. That’s is an awesome marketing policy. Well done Toyota.

  10. Hi, Interested in a factory order and know there’s a big waiting list. Can you add rear privacy glass as an option on the 5Dr Active grade?

    Thanks

    1. Hi Stuart,

Thanks for your interest in the Land Cruiser.

Deliveries are scheduled for November, so there is a bit of a wait! Sorry about that.

Privacy glass is only available on the Invincible grade, and isn’t an option on any other grade.

      Thanks
