Toyota Yaris Cross GR Sport adds sporty flair

The GR Sport line-up of models welcomes a new member with the introduction of the Toyota Yaris Cross GR Sport, following in the footsteps of the established Corolla, Toyota C-HR and Yaris GR Sport editions. Inspired by the multi-World Championship-winning achievements of Toyota Gazoo Racing, the Toyota Yaris Cross GR Sport features exclusive exterior and interior features and retuned suspension for sharper, more rewarding handling.

On the street, the new Yaris Cross GR Sport is distinguished by new 18-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels with a bright machined finish. The sporting touches include a new rear diffuser and front grille with an exclusive “hot stamp” piano black mesh pattern and discreet GR badging. A new Dynamic Grey finish is the GR Sport’s signature colour, additionally available as a bi-tone option with a contrast black roof and pillars.

The GR logo is prominently featured, on the front headrests, starter button, combi meter and steering wheel, and GR Sport-specific gunmetal silver trim inserts in the doors and instrument panel.

Toyota Yaris Cross GR Sport: Dynamic Performance

Yaris Cross has a proven foundation for rewarding handling thanks to the GA-B platform – the same as that featured in the European Car of the Year 2021-winning Yaris hatchback – which gives it a low centre of gravity, a highly rigid body and balanced chassis. In the GR Sport, performance has been sharpened with retuning of the suspension, giving the driver better steering, roll and grip feel.

In other respects, the new GR Sport retains all the qualities that helped the Yaris Cross win the 2022 World Urban Car of the Year title. Combining Toyota’s mastery of small car and SUV design engineering, it majors on quality and practicality. Customers appreciate the high SUV driving position and the car-like dynamics, virtues that reference those of the original Toyota RAV4 – the world’s first recreational Sports Utility Vehicle.

Practicality

Convenience is designed-in with a 40:20:40 split folding rear seat and a split-folding deck board that allows load space to extend from 397 litres (with all seats in place) to a maximum of 1,097 litres. The skilful packaging maximises interior space within compact exterior dimensions that are ideal for agile urban manoeuvring.

As a high-grade model, the Yaris Cross GR Sport has a rich standard equipment specification, including dual-zone climate control, heated front seats and rear privacy glass. The GR Sport also has the Toyota T-Mate package of advanced active safety and driver assistance features.

Hybrid Powertrain

The Toyota Yaris Cross GR Sport is powered by Toyota’s highly efficient three-cylinder, 1.5-litre Hybrid Dynamic Force engine. The powertrain’s long stroke, high-speed combustion, high 14:1 compression ratio, and temperature and pressure controls help the unit achieve a high 40% thermal efficiency. The CO2 and fuel economy performance of the Yaris Cross GR Sport is yet to be announced.

Pre-sales of the new Yaris Cross GR Sport in Europe will begin in the third quarter of 2022 with OTR prices starting at £28,970.

  5. How much is this lowered compared to the standard Yaris Cross. Also why can you not get the option of power tail gate and heated steering wheel in the New Yaris Cross GR?

    1. Hi Eric,
      Thanks for your comment.
The Yaris Cross GR Sport is the same height as all other Yaris Cross grades.
      Thanks.

      1. Hi Alison, thanks for your question.

A power tailgate is not available on the Yaris Cross GR Sport.

        Thanks.

  6. Hi
I ordered a YarisX GR a few weeks ago but just noticed something that concerns me. According to Toyota UK website, 18″ alloys are supplied with Falken 215/50/18r 92v tyres which are rated at ‘B’ for economy but more alarmingly, only ‘C’ for wet grip. I’ve never owned a car that’s had anything less than ‘A’ rating for wet grip. On checking UK tyre retailers, the ‘C’ and below grades equate to the cheaper tyres. The majority of tyres, including Falken’s other models in that size available here in the UK, are either ‘A’ or ‘B’ rated.
Are you able to confirm my UK spec GR will be supplied with non-premium ‘C’ rated wet grip tyres?
    Thanks

  7. I was looking at the Yaris Cross configurator yesterday m, has the panoramic sunroof option been removed, why was this, any plans to bring it back? Also I notice the orange paint option has gone, any plans to bring this colour back or introduce a new colour?

    1. Hi Victor,
Due to unprecedented demand, unfortunately we are no longer taking orders for the Yaris Cross with panoramic roof.
We are sorry for any disappointment this may cause.
      Thanks.

  8. Is the GR version any quicker 0-60? I can only see figures on Autotrader which suggests same as Yaris Crossover ~11.2s?

    1. Hi Roger,
The Yaris Cross GR Sport has the same power as the other grades.
GR Sport models receive special treatment both inside and out.
Exterior details include machined-face alloy wheels, dedicated front grille execution and exclusive Ash Grey body colour and Gloss Black ornaments.
The interior includes perforated leather steering wheel and Red-stitched details for a look that’s unmistakably sporty.
      We hope this helps.
      Thanks.
