Every Toyota in the UK, old or new, purchased outside of or in a Toyota dealer, is eligible to be covered up to ten years or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first) of Toyota warranty. This is provided through an initial three-year manufacturer warranty followed by up to seven years of service-activated warranty. Terms and conditions apply and can be read here.
For the first three years of your new car’s life, the manufacturer warranty is in place and an owner can have the car serviced wherever they choose. After the expiry of the manufacturer warranty, owners who choose to have their Toyota serviced at an official Toyota centre will benefit from an additional 12 months (or 10,000 miles) of warranty, until your car is either ten years old or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first).
The combination of manufacturer warranty and service-activated warranty means Toyota owners can access Toyota warranty of up to 10 years (or 100,000 miles), giving them a chance to relax in the knowledge that they and their vehicle are in safe hands.
The warranty applies to every type of powertrain, from market-leading hybrids and conventional petrol and diesel models to advanced new battery electric vehicles.
Here we answer key questions about the Toyota warranty programme. If you require further information, please let us know in the comments below and we will do our best to answer your queries.
How do I get the Toyota warranty?
From 1 June 2021, all new Toyota vehicles have been sold with a three-year (or 60,000-mile) manufacturer warranty as standard. Following that initial period, Toyota provides a 12-month (or 10,000-mile) warranty with every qualifying service at an official Toyota centre, for up to an additional seven years.
There are no complex formalities. The Toyota warranty is automatically activated on the completion of a scheduled full or interim qualifying service at an official Toyota centre. By keeping to their vehicle’s service schedule, customers can benefit from an extra 12 months (or 10,000 miles) of warranty, year after year, until the ten year or 100,000-mile limit is reached.
How does the Toyota warranty work?
The warranty operates in the same way as the warranties provided on new and approved used Toyota vehicles. Cover is automatic when the vehicle undergoes a scheduled full or interim qualifying service and effective from that date for 12 months or 10,000 miles – whichever is soonest. On vehicles that have service intervals every two years, the cover is for 24 months or 20,000 miles.
There are no forms to sign to obtain the warranty cover and the customer does not have to keep or present any policy documents should they need to make a claim. The warranty status of their vehicle is recorded in the details of their vehicle held by the Toyota network and is noted on the service invoice raised by the centre.
This central record means that a vehicle’s warranty will be recognised at any official Toyota centre, should customers move or choose to have their car serviced at a different approved location.
Following completion of a service where their vehicle qualifies for the warranty, customers will be sent a confirmation email by their centre (subject to them providing an email address for contact).
If a vehicle requires work to be done under warranty, the customer contacts their local Toyota centre in the first instance. They will be able to confirm the warranty status on receiving details of the vehicle.
Which cars are eligible for the new Toyota warranty?
It’s a comprehensive programme that applies to all Toyota passenger cars, Toyota Professional light commercial vans and pick-ups and the latest Toyota GR performance models.
Likewise, there are no exclusions where powertrains are concerned, with the same level of cover provided for hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery electric vehicles and the Mirai hydrogen fuel cell saloon, as well as for models with petrol and diesel internal combustion engines.
Eligible vehicles range from cars just completing the period of their new vehicle warranty, to high-mileage models that have passed through multiple ownerships and have no prior Toyota service history.
What’s covered and what’s not covered?
This new Toyota warranty covers the same parts and labour as the three-year manufacturer’s warranty provided on new Toyota vehicles and the one-year manufacturer warranty that’s standard with approved used vehicles.
It does not include wear and tear items, bodywork, paint, interior trims and maintenance parts. A vehicle health check is part of the service package, which includes all mechanical and electronic parts, which helps potential problems to be detected at an early stage. Any existing defects present at the time of service are excluded from the warranty.
Full terms and conditions can be downloaded from toyota.co.uk.
Although the warranty cover is uniform, different types of vehicle owner will have a different customer experience:
New Toyota vehicles
Customers with new Toyota vehicles will have a three-year/60,000-mile manufacturer’s warranty in place, or, for Toyotas ordered prior to 1 June 2021, a five-year/100,000-mile warranty.
After the expiry of the manufacturer warranty, owners who choose to have a qualifying service at an official Toyota centre will benefit from an additional 12 months (or 10,000 miles) of warranty, until your car is either ten years old or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first).
For vehicles with a two-year service schedule, a 24-month/20,000-mile warranty will automatically be activated. The warranty will then be renewed at each successive qualifying service at an official Toyota centre, until the ten years or 100,000-mile limit is reached.
Approved used Toyota vehicles
Customers with approved used vehicles purchased from the Toyota network will have a 12-month warranty with unlimited mileage, plus one year’s AA roadside assistance cover providing breakdown and recovery services at the customer’s home or roadside.
After the expiry of the manufacturer warranty, owners who choose to have their Toyota serviced at an official Toyota centre will benefit from an additional 12 months (or 10,000 miles) of warranty, until your car is either ten years old or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first).
Used Toyota vehicles
Customers with used vehicles purchased outside the Toyota network can still enjoy the same benefit. Cars registered prior to 1 June 2021 came with a five-year manufacturer warranty. Cars registered after 1 June 2021 carry a three-year manufacturer’s warranty. When those manufacturer’s warranties have expired, the cars automatically qualifies for the Toyota warranty, when it undergoes a qualifying service at a Toyota centre, up until the vehicle is ten years old or reaches the 100,000-mile limit.
‘Lapsed’ and new customers
Lapsed and new customers who have previously chosen to have their vehicle serviced outside the Toyota network can also take advantage of the warranty. There is no requirement for a vehicle to have a history of servicing at an official centre in order to qualify for the warranty; it will be applied from the date the vehicle undergoes a qualifying service at an approved Toyota centre.
Toyota customers with service plans
Customers who have a service plan for their vehicle face no additional costs or changes to the terms of their plan. The warranty will be an additional, added-value benefit when they next undergo a qualifying service .
Toyota warranty and hybrid vehicles
For customers with hybrid vehicles, the Hybrid Health Check forms part of the scheduled servicing. The warranty includes cover for the hybrid battery and components for up to 10 years/100,000 miles. After this time, customers can still extend the cover for up to 15 years with a stand-alone scheduled Hybrid Health Check.
What happens if I take my car to a different Toyota centre for service? How do I prove there is an active Toyota warranty on my vehicle from another centre?
All Toyota centres will be able to access all active warranty contracts. Any necessary warranty work can also be undertaken at any official Toyota dealer.
If I bought a used Toyota, how can I find out if there is an active warranty on it?
Centres will be able to confirm this and can advise on the details and terms of the cover.
How is the Toyota warranty activated?
If the vehicle is eligible, warranty activation is processed automatically by Toyota. The customer doesn’t have do anything.
What does the Toyota warranty cover?
The warranty provides the same cover as the manufacturer’s warranty. Likewise, it does not cover wear and tear items. Full terms and conditions are provided at toyota.co.uk. Local centres will also provide information.
What is the process for making a warranty claim?
If a vehicle requires work under warranty, customers should contact their local centre for advice and make a booking for the necessary repairs to be made.
I have purchased a vehicle with a three-year manufacturer’s warranty. When does it become eligible for the Toyota warranty?
Vehicles purchased on or after 1 June 2021 are covered by a manufacturer’s warranty for three years. The additional warranty benefit can be enjoyed following a qualifying service when the warranty expires, by having the car serviced at an approved Toyota centre.
I have a three-year-old Toyota with an active five-year warranty. Will the Toyota warranty affect this cover?
Vehicles purchased on or after 1 June 2021 are covered by a manufacturer’s warranty for three years. The additional warranty benefit can be enjoyed following a qualifying service when the warranty expires, by having the car serviced at an approved Toyota centre.
I recently purchased a used car from a Toyota centre. When will it be eligible for the Toyota warranty?
Used cars purchased through the centre network are covered by a 12 months/unlimited mileage warranty. Toyota warranty benefits can be enjoyed when the car is brought in for its next scheduled service.
I already have an extended warranty. Can I swap onto this warranty you’re describing here?
Yes, you can cancel a Toyota extended warranty policy and receive a pro-rata refund, provided you haven’t made a claim. Once that is cancelled, you’ll then need to have a qualifying service to activate the new warranty. It may be better to wait until your next service is due! If you purchased an extended warranty through a Toyota centre, the terms and conditions for cancellation may be different.
Can I purchase the Toyota warranty?
No, the warranty is automatically activated following the completion of a full or interim service.
Does the warranty apply to light commercial vehicles and business vehicles?
Yes, it applies to all Toyota vehicles.
Is a Hybrid Health Check still available to extend my Toyota vehicle’s hybrid battery cover?
The Hybrid Health Check is included as part of the service on vehicles less than 10 years old or having less than 100,000 miles on the clock. When a Toyota warranty contract is activated, it will include the hybrid battery cover. When the vehicle is no longer eligible for the 10 year/100,000 mile warranty, extended warranty cover on the hybrid battery and components can be accessed through a stand-alone Hybrid Health Check, up to the vehicle reaching 15 years from the date of first registration.
My vehicle’s service schedule is every two years? How does this affect the warranty?
Where scheduled maintenance is every two years, a warranty contract will automatically be activated and cover the vehicle for two years/20,000 miles until the next qualifying service is due.
Will I receive confirmation that my vehicle is covered by the Toyota warranty?
Centres will advise customers if their vehicle is eligible for the Toyota warranty. When a qualifying service has been completed and the warranty contract has been active, customers will receive a follow-up email. Further questions arising can be answered by the centre which looks after your vehicle.
Does the introduction of the Toyota warranty affect the service plan I’ve purchased for my vehicle?
Customers with a service plan now get more for their money when their vehicle is eligible for a warranty, receiving an extra year’s warranty for their vehicle when it undergoes a qualifying service, up to 10 years or 100,000 miles.
If my vehicle is nine years and 364 days old on the day of service, will a Toyota warranty contract be activated and will it expire the next day?
A full contract will be activated every time an eligible vehicle undergoes a qualifying service. In this example the vehicle will be covered until one day before the 11th anniversary of its first date of registration.
Can I transfer the Toyota warranty to a new owner if I sell my vehicle?
If a vehicle is sold, the new owner inherits the benefits and can continue to extend the warranty by maintaining it at a Toyota centre. The warranty cover applies only to the serviced vehicle and cannot be transferred to another vehicle.
Will the Toyota warranty cover expire if I am late booking my vehicle’s next service?
The vehicle must be serviced before the warranty expires to activate a new contract and maintain the cover. Local centres can provide further advice and help book your next qualifying service.
I own a GR Yaris with a GR Yaris Track Warranty. If I drive my car on track, will this affect my Toyota warranty cover?
Driving the GR Yaris on track would not invalidate the warranty, but terms and conditions still apply. The vehicle can be covered by both the track and Toyota warranties.
The warranty cover on my approved used Toyota includes one year’s AA roadside assistance cover. Is this available with the Toyota warranty?
Roadside cover is not included in the Toyota or Lexus warranty but can be purchased separately if required. The warranty is exceptional value, being provided at no extra cost to the customer beyond the menu pricing of their vehicle’s service.
Are there other benefits to using Toyota centres?
In addition to the warranty, servicing at a Toyota centre provides other significant benefits to customers. Work is carried out by qualified Toyota technicians, using Toyota-approved parts to ensure optimum performance.
Workshop teams are fully equipped and trained work on all the technologies featured in Toyota vehicles, including electrified powertrains and advanced handling and safety systems. Pricing is transparent with a service menu price guarantee for the scheduled servicing requirements for each model.
Toyota customer-focused approach includes an online service booking facility at the customer’s preferred centre. Centres will also make servicing as convenient as possible, with collection and delivery, courtesy cars and while-you-wait servicing options.

Hi
I have two questions if you can help with responses, I would be very happy.
I have bought a Toyota RAV4 registered on 30/03/2020 from a private seller. Based on registration date, how long is the manufacturer warranty? Is it 3 years or 5 years?
Secondly, the car was not previously serviced by a Toyota dealer, if I start servicing with an approved dealer, would I be eligible for the 12 month warranty after each service even if previous service was not by Toyota dealer? Many thanks
Hi Andrew, thanks for getting in touch.
Please provide a vehicle registration so that we can look into this for you.
Thanks.
I bought a 2019 plate Aygo 22/08/2023 on PCP.
Am i still under warranty as it is on PCP
Hi Sian, thanks for your query.
Your Toyota Centre are best placed to advise you on this. We would recommend contacting them for more information.
Please also consult our warranty terms and conditions here: https://brnw.ch/21wFEVU
Thanks.
My vehicle will be ten years old a few days after its next service. Will the Toyota warranty expire once it exceeds 100000 miles?
Hi Anthony,
Our Warranty Team have advised that if your vehicle is serviced within 10 years then you will get 12 months warranty.
However, 100,000 is maximum limit. Time can run over, mileage cannot.
We hope this helps.
Thanks.
Hi, I have a 2020 Aygo with water ingress coming through rear light. My dealership has said that water ingress is not covered by the 5 year warranty.
Can you please clarify?
thanks
Hi Lisa,
We are very sorry to hear that you are experiencing problems with your Aygo!
Our Warranty Team have advised that water leaks are excluded, but it depends on why water is coming into the lamp unit.
If there is a proven manufacturing defect, this is something we would support.
Your Toyota Centre would need to investigate why it is leaking and then inform you why it would not be covered as lamp units do not just leak water.
We hope this helps, please let us know if you have any further questions.
Thanks.
I have recently purchased an approved March 2022 rav4 HV , my query is on the warranty, it was last serviced July 2023. Do I need a service by July 2024 to maintain warranty or will I get notification on screen?
Hi Chris,
All Toyota vehicles come with 3 Years Manufacturer Warranty as standard.
During this time, you can have the vehicle serviced wherever you like.
After this manufacturer warranty expires, the vehicle will need to be serviced at a Toyota Centre to benefit from the service activated warranty.
We hope this helps, please let us know if you have any further questions.
Thanks.
I had MOT done on my 2020 orange edition and it failed on a reversing light failure. As a 2020 it comes with the 5 year manufacturers warranty.
My car has only done 23,600 miles and has a full toyota service history and health check record.
My car failed the MOT due to LED reversing light unit failure. Which I was told is not covered under warranty, only Toyota can replace the unit and its going to cost £116.00.
A car that’s 4 years old with under 24k miles in excellent condition. I believe the LED is a manufacturing failure and they should replace at no cost to me. My understanding is LEDs should last on average 50,000 hrs or 100,000 miles.
Can you confirm this would be a valid claim under the 5yr manufactures warranty. I’ve never known LEDs to fail like this.
It’s booked in tomorrow in order to pass MOT but having already paid £477 for MOT and Full service. I am reluctant to have to fork out another £116 for a new reversing light unit. When in my mind it is a lighting componant failure and a valid warranty claim.
In fairness the guy said he will contact manufacture for me but I would like some advice on how to challenge this if they refuse tomorrow.
Hi Paula,
As per the terms and conditions of the warranty, for any repair to be considered under the warranty it needs to go to one of our franchised Toyota Centre’s for investigation.
We rely on the trained Technicians there to carry out the necessary investigations to confirm whether a repair would be deemed to be a manufacturing defect or not.
Once it has been inspected by the Toyota centre, they would then put a claim through to the warranty team to determine if it is something that would be covered by the warranty or not.
If the issue is not confirmed to be a manufacturing defect, then any associated repairs would have to be paid for.
We’re afraid that we cannot overturn the centre or the Warranty Team’s decision once the claim has been rejected.
Thanks.
I have just bought a used C-HR (2022 plate) which has a full service history, from CINCH. I intend taking out a service plan and have all future servicing and MOTs carried out by a local TOYOTA garage. Will I be covered
under the remainder of the 3 year manufacturers Warranty and then by the TOYOTA warranty?
Hi Derek,
Thanks for your question.
For the first three years of your new car’s life, the manufacturer warranty is in place and you can have the car serviced wherever you like.
After the expiry of the manufacturer warranty, if you choose to have your C-HR serviced at an official Toyota centre, you will benefit from an additional 12 months (or 10,000 miles) of warranty, until your car is either ten years old or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first).
We hope this helps.
Thanks.
Hello,
I recently purchased a second-hand Toyota Prius with a 2021 registration, still covered by the Toyota warranty. If I have parking sensors installed by a non-Toyota dealer, will it impact the Toyota warranty? Many thanks.
Hi there,
Thanks for your question.
Our Warranty Team have advised that this will not invalidate the warranty, but if the fitment contributes or is the cause of damage then we may not support the repair or any consequential damage.
We hope this helps.
Thanks.
Hi,
I recently bought RAV4 with Reg. No. NU70ZFH which I serviced from Inchcape Nottingham North on 25/01/2024. As you told here before every customer will get warranty email once they have serviced their vehicle for next 12 months, Can I ask when can I expect it? Also I have no idea what actually cover under warranty if you can let me know please.
Hi there,
Thanks for your question.
Firstly, if you have not received this email, we would recommend discussing this with your Toyota Centre directly.
Secondly, the T&Cs for the service activated warranty can be found here – https://www.toyota.co.uk/content/dam/toyota/nmsc/united-kingdom/owners/warranty/toyota-warranty/toyota-warranty-ts-and-cs-june-2022.pdf.
Please let us know if you have any further questions.
Thanks.
Hello, we have a RAV4 which was 1year old when purchased from Toyota and have continued with a service plan which we understand continues the warranty. Are rear parking sensors covered by Toyota’s warranty.
Regards Terry
Hi Terry, thanks for your comment.
All potential warranty claims must be investigated by your local Toyota Centre on a case by case basis. It is not possible to advise on an issue without seeing it in person. There will be a diagnostic cost involved in investigating the fault, which may be waived if it is deemed a manufacturing issue.
Thanks,
Toyota UK
