Toyota Manufacturing UK is committed to creating a family-friendly environment for its members, and at Burnaston it provides an on-site nursery called Bumpers.
Opened in 1998, the crèche is a valuable resource for all families working at Burnaston, and it’s open to children of non-Toyota staff as well.
By making childcare available to all its members, TMUK has been able to expand and diversify its workforce, and is part of a wider focus on education.
The company actively encourages younger people to study STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) subjects that will equip them for a career in UK manufacturing.
TMUK’s schools programmes, Art of Manufacturing and Industrial Cadets, have provided more than 2000 young people from across 73 schools local to the factory over 17,000 hours of interactive, hands on STEM experience.
By providing childcare facilities at the workplace, TMUK helps people manage their job and family commitments. The nursery has proved particularly helpful for young people who want to start a family.
TMUK provides and maintains the nursery building, with the day-to-day running managed by Bright Horizons. And as you’d expect from anything associated with the Toyota name, the quality of the nursery is excellent: Bumpers has been rated as ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted.
