9 reasons to buy an approved used Toyota

The experience of buying an approved used Toyota is just as enjoyable and reassuring as buying a brand-new model. Why can we say that? Because as you will see from the benefits outlined below, the Toyota Approved Used programme delivers convenience and peace of mind every step of the way.

1. Always available

The used car sales areas of all Toyota centres are always open digitally, and it is possible to arrange for a Toyota sales representative to speak with you by phone, video chat or on a pre-booked physical appointment.

2. End-to-end buying proposition

The Toyota Approved Used web page has a comprehensive tool (above) that allows you to search for your ideal vehicle from the comfort and safety of your own home. This one-stop facility allows you to enter your postcode and conduct a search based on 12 key preferences. And if the vehicle this tool identifies is perfect for your needs, the entire purchase can be carried out online.

3. COVID-19 safe

To help keep you safe during vehicle handovers, we strictly adhere to government guidelines and have social distancing measures and touchless handover processes in place at all our centres. We recommend arranging a pre-booked sales appointment with your local Toyota centre before visiting.

4. The best of the best

If it’s a nearly new car you’re looking for, Toyota Plus Direct vehicles represent the best available within the Toyota Approved Used programme. All are hand-selected, less than two years old and have covered less than 24,000 miles. For full reassurance, each vehicle is thoroughly checked for quality and comes with a minimum of three years or 67,000-mile warranty. Toyota Plus Direct cars are available to buy online and are delivered fully valeted to your home within ten working days.

5. We’ve got you covered

All Toyota Approved Used vehicles carry the reassurance of at least a 12-month warranty period, while Toyota Plus Direct vehicles (see above) come complete with a minimum of three years or 67,000-mile warranty.

6. Professionally checked

All Toyota Approved Used vehicles are inspected by our trained technicians, who conduct a comprehensive 145-point check. If any quality control point fails to make the grade, it is either replaced or refurbished so we can guarantee the safety and reliability of the entire vehicle.

7. Roadside assistance

All Toyota Approved Used vehicles are supplied with 12 months of Toyota Roadside Assistance, which includes breakdown and recovery services at your home or by the roadside. This applies across the UK and in 44 European countries.

8. Part-exchange

Many customers will have an existing car that they want to trade in, which is why we offer the convenience of a part-exchange service on all makes and models. All we need to do is confirm that the vehicle’s condition is consistent with the information presented during the online valuation.

9. Investing in quality

By purchasing an approved used Toyota, you are investing in a brand that is renowned for delivering the highest standards of quality, durability and reliability. A recent survey by What Car? magazine placed Toyota and vehicles from sister brand Lexus in the top two positions for overall reliability.

  1. I have had new rear discs and pads today costing 270 pounds inclusive of 90 pounds labour cost
Even though my rav 4 is still in warranty, should I still pay labour cost

    1. Hi there,
As brake discs and brake pads are wear and tear items, these are not covered under warranty.
Please let us know if you have any further questions.
      Thanks.

    1. Hi Glenn,
      Thanks for your comment.
We would recommend discussing this with your Toyota Centre.
Please let us know if you have any further questions.
      Thanks.

  3. Hi
Purchased a used Yaris 62 Reg from Toyota Cardiff in late June this year. Yesterday the rear part of the exhaust had to be replaced as a result of ‘snapping’ from corrosion after having done less than 1000 miles. Is it covered under the used Toyota 12 month warranty programme?

    1. Hi Ketan,
      Thanks for your question.
Unfortunately, this warranty does not cover exhaust issues.
This is specifically excluded in the Terms and Conditions.
      Thanks.

  4. Purchase a used Aygo 2010 reg on Apr 2022, yesterday, have a beeping noise when the foot is on the accelerator and no warning lights on the dashboard, checked is worn a clutch. Is it cover under the used Toyota 12 month warranty?

    1. Hi Leslie,
      Thanks for your question.
Clutch disc, cover and bearing are normally not covered by Toyota Relax.
However, we cannot confirm this via media without examination.
We recommend visiting your Toyota Centre who can examine the vehicle for you and determine the cause of the issue.
      Hope this helps.
      Thanks.

  5. My car is 1 year old and still under warranty. YT71 KHG. I am about to have it serviced by a Toyota dealer to ensure the warranty remains valid. Am I still covered for roadside/breakdown assistance?

  6. If you buy an approved used Toyota will it come serviced, or would selling a car needing a service be against Toyotas rules?

    1. Hi, thanks for your question.

All Toyota Approved Used vehicles are inspected by our technicians and pass a comprehensive 145 point technical check. Therefore, you can drive away knowing that your used Toyota has been properly cared for.

However, we would recommend contacting your Toyota Centre to confirm whether the vehicle has been serviced.

      Thanks.

  7. If I buy an approved used car from toyota approved dealer in wolverhampton, but I’m moving to wales a month later, can I go to local Toyota dealer in wales if anything goes wrong and the car is within warranty? Or do i have to return to the dealer that I got the car from?

    1. Hi Sam,
      Thanks for your comment.
All Toyota Centres will be able to access all active warranty contracts.
Any necessary warranty work can also be undertaken at any official Toyota dealer.
      We hope this helps.
      Thanks.

  8. Bought a 21 plate Aygo today. Dealer only declared there was only 1 key after I’d signed and paid.
Seems a bit underhand, am I entitled to a new key?
Worried that previous owner could have the spare and use it, can the code be changed – where do I stand?

      1. Thanks for the reply. I finally bought a Toyota used approved car recently via online. However, I noticed a lot of rust in many places of the car like under the bonnet, brake discs, door hinges, nuts in the boot. Also, the car was due a major service, but only a minor service has been done.

How can a car like that get approved by Toyota? What can be done to address this?

      2. Hi Forreal,
        Thanks for your comment.
We would recommend raising this with your centre directly.
        Thanks.

      3. I would like to know if Toyota would at least review these kind of complaints about Toyota approved used cars (and Toyota dealers), since this will only give a bad reputation for Toyota itself. Is there any complaint process for this?

      4. Hi, thanks for getting in touch.

Our Customer Relations and Mag teams review the comments and make note of all complaints and suggestions.

Should you wish to contact someone directly, you can submit a form here: https://fal.cn/3AlWz

        Thanks.

      5. Unfortunately that form does not work. Can you please share a working link of that form? Thanks.

  9. i am buying a used Toyota C-HR 218 from swindon toyota and when i applied for toyota insurance they rejected me. WHY?

    1. Hi Sachin, thanks for your question.

We cannot provide an explanation for this, as we have no details on the case.
