Every Toyota in the UK, old or new, purchased outside of or in a Toyota dealer, is eligible to be covered up to ten years or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first) of Toyota warranty. This is provided through an initial three-year manufacturer warranty followed by up to seven years of service-activated warranty. Terms and conditions apply and can be read here.
For the first three years of your new car’s life, the manufacturer warranty is in place and an owner can have the car serviced wherever they choose. After the expiry of the manufacturer warranty, owners who choose to have their Toyota serviced at an official Toyota centre will benefit from an additional 12 months (or 10,000 miles) of warranty, until your car is either ten years old or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first).

The combination of manufacturer warranty and service-activated warranty means Toyota owners can access Toyota warranty of up to 10 years (or 100,000 miles), giving them a chance to relax in the knowledge that they and their vehicle are in safe hands.
The warranty applies to every type of powertrain, from market-leading hybrids and conventional petrol and diesel models to advanced new battery electric vehicles.
Here we answer key questions about the Toyota warranty programme. If you require further information, please let us know in the comments below and we will do our best to answer your queries.
How do I get the Toyota warranty?
From 1 June 2021, all new Toyota vehicles have been sold with a three-year (or 60,000-mile) manufacturer warranty as standard. Following that initial period, Toyota provides a 12-month (or 10,000-mile) warranty with every qualifying service at an official Toyota centre, for up to an additional seven years.
There are no complex formalities. The Toyota warranty is automatically activated on the completion of a scheduled full or interim qualifying service at an official Toyota centre. By keeping to their vehicle’s service schedule, customers can benefit from an extra 12 months (or 10,000 miles) of warranty, year after year, until the ten year or 100,000-mile limit is reached.
How does the Toyota warranty work?
The warranty operates in the same way as the warranties provided on new and approved used Toyota vehicles. Cover is automatic when the vehicle undergoes a scheduled full or interim qualifying service and effective from that date for 12 months or 10,000 miles – whichever is soonest. On vehicles that have service intervals every two years, the cover is for 24 months or 20,000 miles.
There are no forms to sign to obtain the warranty cover and the customer does not have to keep or present any policy documents should they need to make a claim. The warranty status of their vehicle is recorded in the details of their vehicle held by the Toyota network and is noted on the service invoice raised by the centre.

This central record means that a vehicle’s warranty will be recognised at any official Toyota centre, should customers move or choose to have their car serviced at a different approved location.
Following completion of a service where their vehicle qualifies for the warranty, customers will be sent a confirmation email by their centre (subject to them providing an email address for contact).
If a vehicle requires work to be done under warranty, the customer contacts their local Toyota centre in the first instance. They will be able to confirm the warranty status on receiving details of the vehicle.
Which cars are eligible for the new Toyota warranty?
It’s a comprehensive programme that applies to all Toyota passenger cars, Toyota Professional light commercial vans and pick-ups and the latest Toyota GR performance models.
Likewise, there are no exclusions where powertrains are concerned, with the same level of cover provided for hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery electric vehicles and the Mirai hydrogen fuel cell saloon, as well as for models with petrol and diesel internal combustion engines.
Eligible vehicles range from cars just completing the period of their new vehicle warranty, to high-mileage models that have passed through multiple ownerships and have no prior Toyota service history.
What’s covered and what’s not covered?
This new Toyota warranty covers the same parts and labour as the three-year manufacturer’s warranty provided on new Toyota vehicles and the one-year manufacturer warranty that’s standard with approved used vehicles.
It does not include wear and tear items, bodywork, paint, interior trims and maintenance parts. A vehicle health check is part of the service package, which includes all mechanical and electronic parts, which helps potential problems to be detected at an early stage. Any existing defects present at the time of service are excluded from the warranty.
Full terms and conditions can be downloaded from toyota.co.uk.
Although the warranty cover is uniform, different types of vehicle owner will have a different customer experience:
New Toyota vehicles
Customers with new Toyota vehicles will have a three-year/60,000-mile manufacturer’s warranty in place, or, for Toyotas ordered prior to 1 June 2021, a five-year/100,000-mile warranty.
After the expiry of the manufacturer warranty, owners who choose to have a qualifying service at an official Toyota centre will benefit from an additional 12 months (or 10,000 miles) of warranty, until your car is either ten years old or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first).
For vehicles with a two-year service schedule, a 24-month/20,000-mile warranty will automatically be activated. The warranty will then be renewed at each successive qualifying service at an official Toyota centre, until the ten years or 100,000-mile limit is reached.
Approved used Toyota vehicles
Customers with approved used vehicles purchased from the Toyota network will have a 12-month warranty with unlimited mileage, plus one year’s AA roadside assistance cover providing breakdown and recovery services at the customer’s home or roadside.
After the expiry of the manufacturer warranty, owners who choose to have their Toyota serviced at an official Toyota centre will benefit from an additional 12 months (or 10,000 miles) of warranty, until your car is either ten years old or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first).
Used Toyota vehicles
Customers with used vehicles purchased outside the Toyota network can still enjoy the same benefit. Cars registered prior to 1 June 2021 came with a five-year manufacturer warranty. Cars registered after 1 June 2021 carry a three-year manufacturer’s warranty. When those manufacturer’s warranties have expired, the cars automatically qualifies for the Toyota warranty, when it undergoes a qualifying service at a Toyota centre, up until the vehicle is ten years old or reaches the 100,000-mile limit.
‘Lapsed’ and new customers
Lapsed and new customers who have previously chosen to have their vehicle serviced outside the Toyota network can also take advantage of the warranty. There is no requirement for a vehicle to have a history of servicing at an official centre in order to qualify for the warranty; it will be applied from the date the vehicle undergoes a qualifying service at an approved Toyota centre.
Toyota customers with service plans
Customers who have a service plan for their vehicle face no additional costs or changes to the terms of their plan. The warranty will be an additional, added-value benefit when they next undergo a qualifying service .
Toyota warranty and hybrid vehicles
For customers with hybrid vehicles, the Hybrid Health Check forms part of the scheduled servicing. The warranty includes cover for the hybrid battery and components for up to 10 years/100,000 miles. After this time, customers can still extend the cover for up to 15 years with a stand-alone scheduled Hybrid Health Check.

What happens if I take my car to a different Toyota centre for service? How do I prove there is an active Toyota warranty on my vehicle from another centre?
All Toyota centres will be able to access all active warranty contracts. Any necessary warranty work can also be undertaken at any official Toyota dealer.
If I bought a used Toyota, how can I find out if there is an active warranty on it?
Centres will be able to confirm this and can advise on the details and terms of the cover.

How is the Toyota warranty activated?
If the vehicle is eligible, warranty activation is processed automatically by Toyota. The customer doesn’t have do anything.
What does the Toyota warranty cover?
The warranty provides the same cover as the manufacturer’s warranty. Likewise, it does not cover wear and tear items. Full terms and conditions are provided at toyota.co.uk. Local centres will also provide information.
What is the process for making a warranty claim?
If a vehicle requires work under warranty, customers should contact their local centre for advice and make a booking for the necessary repairs to be made.
I have purchased a vehicle with a three-year manufacturer’s warranty. When does it become eligible for the Toyota warranty?
Vehicles purchased on or after 1 June 2021 are covered by a manufacturer’s warranty for three years. The additional warranty benefit can be enjoyed following a qualifying service when the warranty expires, by having the car serviced at an approved Toyota centre.

I have a three-year-old Toyota with an active five-year warranty. Will the Toyota warranty affect this cover?
Vehicles purchased on or after 1 June 2021 are covered by a manufacturer’s warranty for three years. The additional warranty benefit can be enjoyed following a qualifying service when the warranty expires, by having the car serviced at an approved Toyota centre.
I recently purchased a used car from a Toyota centre. When will it be eligible for the Toyota warranty?
Used cars purchased through the centre network are covered by a 12 months/unlimited mileage warranty. Toyota warranty benefits can be enjoyed when the car is brought in for its next scheduled service.
I already have an extended warranty. Can I swap onto this warranty you’re describing here?
Yes, you can cancel a Toyota extended warranty policy and receive a pro-rata refund, provided you haven’t made a claim. Once that is cancelled, you’ll then need to have a qualifying service to activate the new warranty. It may be better to wait until your next service is due! If you purchased an extended warranty through a Toyota centre, the terms and conditions for cancellation may be different.
Can I purchase the Toyota warranty?
No, the warranty is automatically activated following the completion of a full or interim service.
Does the warranty apply to light commercial vehicles and business vehicles?
Yes, it applies to all Toyota vehicles.
Is a Hybrid Health Check still available to extend my Toyota vehicle’s hybrid battery cover?
The Hybrid Health Check is included as part of the service on vehicles less than 10 years old or having less than 100,000 miles on the clock. When a Toyota warranty contract is activated, it will include the hybrid battery cover. When the vehicle is no longer eligible for the 10 year/100,000 mile warranty, extended warranty cover on the hybrid battery and components can be accessed through a stand-alone Hybrid Health Check, up to the vehicle reaching 15 years from the date of first registration.
My vehicle’s service schedule is every two years? How does this affect the warranty?
Where scheduled maintenance is every two years, a warranty contract will automatically be activated and cover the vehicle for two years/20,000 miles until the next qualifying service is due.
Will I receive confirmation that my vehicle is covered by the Toyota warranty?
Centres will advise customers if their vehicle is eligible for the Toyota warranty. When a qualifying service has been completed and the warranty contract has been active, customers will receive a follow-up email. Further questions arising can be answered by the centre which looks after your vehicle.
Does the introduction of the Toyota warranty affect the service plan I’ve purchased for my vehicle?
Customers with a service plan now get more for their money when their vehicle is eligible for a warranty, receiving an extra year’s warranty for their vehicle when it undergoes a qualifying service, up to 10 years or 100,000 miles.
If my vehicle is nine years and 364 days old on the day of service, will a Toyota warranty contract be activated and will it expire the next day?
A full contract will be activated every time an eligible vehicle undergoes a qualifying service. In this example the vehicle will be covered until one day before the 11th anniversary of its first date of registration.
Can I transfer the Toyota warranty to a new owner if I sell my vehicle?
If a vehicle is sold, the new owner inherits the benefits and can continue to extend the warranty by maintaining it at a Toyota centre. The warranty cover applies only to the serviced vehicle and cannot be transferred to another vehicle.
Will the Toyota warranty cover expire if I am late booking my vehicle’s next service?
The vehicle must be serviced before the warranty expires to activate a new contract and maintain the cover. Local centres can provide further advice and help book your next qualifying service.
I own a GR Yaris with a GR Yaris Track Warranty. If I drive my car on track, will this affect my Toyota warranty cover?
Driving the GR Yaris on track would not invalidate the warranty, but terms and conditions still apply. The vehicle can be covered by both the track and Toyota warranties.
The warranty cover on my approved used Toyota includes one year’s AA roadside assistance cover. Is this available with the Toyota warranty?
Roadside cover is not included in the Toyota or Lexus warranty but can be purchased separately if required. The warranty is exceptional value, being provided at no extra cost to the customer beyond the menu pricing of their vehicle’s service.
Are there other benefits to using Toyota centres?
In addition to the warranty, servicing at a Toyota centre provides other significant benefits to customers. Work is carried out by qualified Toyota technicians, using Toyota-approved parts to ensure optimum performance.
Workshop teams are fully equipped and trained work on all the technologies featured in Toyota vehicles, including electrified powertrains and advanced handling and safety systems. Pricing is transparent with a service menu price guarantee for the scheduled servicing requirements for each model.
Toyota customer-focused approach includes an online service booking facility at the customer’s preferred centre. Centres will also make servicing as convenient as possible, with collection and delivery, courtesy cars and while-you-wait servicing options.

My Sister-in-Law is having a difficult time recently. She has a 2024 18month old Toyota Corolla and the battery has completed discharged resulting in no power to the car. Eventually the battery got some charge back from a charging pack and was taken on a long ride.
However, a battery should not discharge after only 18months. I understand that Hybrid batteries have a 10yr warranty. The dealership said the battery wasn’t covered and referred her to breakdown service. I don’t believe them.
Please can you give us the basic Toyota position on Battery coverage for an 18month old hybrid vehicle. Your help would be appreciated.
Many thanks
Hello Gary,
Thank you for your question.
We’re sorry to hear that your sister-in-law is experiencing a problem with the battery.
To provide an explanation, all modern cars drain the 12v battery when they are switched off. This is due to the onboard electrical systems.
If the 12v battery is not given a chance to recharge often enough, it can go flat. Please read more here and pick up some tips that, if followed, can help ensure your Toyota remains in tip-top condition: https://brnw.ch/21wDfeR
If you would like your battery to be re-inspected, please get back in touch with your local Toyota Centre.
Many thanks,

Hi,
I have serviced my Toyota Yaris with a main Toyota dealer every year since purchasing the car brand new in 2018.
Last year, I brought the car in for service less than one week late (I believe only 1–2 days). Unfortunately, during that visit technician found that bearing had failed, the car failed its MOT, and I was presented with a bill of over £300. Despite the very short delay, the dealer was not flexible and refused to cover the repair under warranty. I paid the bill and completed the service, after which I received another 12 months of warranty.
This year, to avoid any issues, I was especially careful. I brought my car in for service around four weeks early, as soon as I received Toyota’s reminder stating that I needed to book a service to maintain my warranty. I only drive around 5,000 miles per year.
I have now received a confirmation email stating that I have a new 12-month warranty. However, I was surprised to discover that the new warranty started immediately after the service, even though my previous warranty was still valid for another four weeks. This effectively means I have lost four weeks of warranty coverage.
As a result, it seems that servicing the car early actually penalises the customer, and that I will need to service the car even earlier next year to avoid losing further warranty time. I find this misleading, as in practice I am not receiving a full 12 months of warranty with each service.
Toyota itself sends reminder emails almost two months before the warranty expires, encouraging customers to book a service as soon as possible to maintain the “12 months warranty.” I have carefully read the warranty terms and conditions as well as the FAQ, and I could not find any mention that servicing the car early would cause the remaining portion of the existing warranty to be lost.
I would expect there to be a reasonable time window (similar to an MOT), where servicing the vehicle a few weeks early would still allow the full 12 months of warranty to apply from the original expiry date. As it stands, this policy feels unclear and unfair to customers who are trying to be proactive and compliant.
I would appreciate clarification on this matter and would like to request that the warranty period be adjusted so that I do not lose the remaining four weeks of coverage.
Kind regards,
Arvydas
Hi Arvydas,

Hi ,I have a 73 plate corolla sports hybrid which is used for private hire taxi with full toyota service history ,however at the last service I booked on the 20th December 25 and got an appointment for the 31st of December mileage on the 20th was 1000miles inside warranty but when admitted into garage for service it was 1000 miles over ,there’s has been a problem with the front windscreen wipers only working at high speed and I mentioned this on the service checks to be carried out ,I was told twice that it was covered under warranty but when car was in for a recall issue and to fix/renew faulty wipers i was told it was not covered by warranty due to mileage, my point is that the front wiper issue was intermittent up to the booking date for the 20 th December and I’m interested on your thoughts regarding this .regards iain
Hi Iain,
Thank you for your message.
Generally, Toyota warranty is provided through an initial three-year manufacturer warranty followed by up to seven years of service-activated warranty. Owners who choose to have their Toyota serviced at an official Toyota centre will benefit from an additional 12 months (or 10,000 miles) of warranty, until your car is either ten years old (from the date of registration) or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first).
As long as you visit an approved Toyota centre (available here: https://www.toyota.co.uk/), you should have no problems with claiming something under warranty, provided that your issue is covered. It is your responsibility as the vehicle owner to book your service prior to reaching the mileage limit.
However, given your status as a taxi-driver and your windscreen wiper issue, if you would like to investigate this further, please contact our Customer Services team: cr@toyota.co.uk
They should be able to insist you by exploring whether the details of your case could be claimed under warranty.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
Many thanks,

Hi, I am in the process of buying Approved used Toyota registered in 2015. Can you confirm that it will benefit from the 12 month initial Approved Warranty despite being more than 10 year old.
Good morning, apologies for the delay in coming back to you.
All of our Toyota approved used cars come with a minimum of 12 months warranty and 12 months roadside assistance. Explore more of the benefits here: https://www.toyota.co.uk/used-cars
As your vehicle is over 10 years old, it cannot further benefit from the additional service activated warranty. More details on that here: https://www.toyota.co.uk/owners/toyota-warranty
Thank you for choosing Toyota as your next car, we wish you many happy miles!
Will the 10 year warranty cover a rusting Hilux chassis?
Hello Peter,
Thank you for your question.
Please could you provide us with your VIN/Vehicle registration number. It is possible you could be eligible for a wax-coating on your chassis.
Many thanks,
Toyota UK
I have imported a Toyota Landcruiser 2026 jeep from Japan I am just wondering if it comes with a three year warranty?
Hi Louise,
Thank you for your message.
Generally, Toyota warranty is provided through an initial three-year manufacturer warranty followed by up to seven years of service-activated warranty. However, we can double check this for you, if you provide us your VIN/Vehicle Registration Number.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

Re:FAQs above,
In answer to “‘Lapsed’ and new customers” you say it doesn’t matter if the warranty lapses because it becomes active from when it gets serviced again. But then further down
(“Will the Toyota warranty cover expire if I am late booking my vehicle’s next service?”) you say it needs to be completed before it expires?
Hi Nat,
Thank you for your question.
We understand this sounds contradictory.
For existing Toyota service customers, new customers and ‘lapsed’ customers, your warranty will be reactivated by your next service, for the following year.
The reason we have the second FAQ is to emphasise that the onus is on the customer to be proactive and book in for a service in advance of the end of their current warranty. For example, if you book your service too late, there may be a period in between the end of last years’ warranty, and your service, that is NOT covered under warranty.
In other words, if your current warranty expires due to a late service, it doesn’t mean you can’t reactivate it, but it will leave you with a period of unprotected driving under warranty
We hope this clarifies this for you.
Please let us know if you have any further questions, and we will be more than happy to help.
Many thanks,
Toyota UK
from the faqs above:
Will the Toyota warranty cover expire if I am late booking my vehicle’s next service?
-The vehicle must be serviced before the warranty expires to activate a new contract and maintain the cover. Local centres can provide further advice and help book your next qualifying service.
Also from above:
‘Lapsed’ and new customers
– Lapsed and new customers who have previously chosen to have their vehicle serviced outside the Toyota network can also take advantage of the warranty. There is no requirement for a vehicle to have a history of servicing at an official centre in order to qualify for the warranty; it will be applied from the date the vehicle undergoes a qualifying service at an approved Toyota centre.
