What is the Toyota FT-Me concept?

FT-Me

The new Toyota FT-Me concept is our vision of an all-electric micromobility solution that combines premium design with affordability. Inspired by the mobility solutions Toyota developed for the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the concept aims to address the evolving needs of city dwellers and challenges of modern urban environments.

The FT-Me is a compact yet spacious two-seat vehicle that measures less than 2.5m long. This means it occupies only half a standard parking space, or just one third where perpendicular parking is permitted. Its helmet-inspired styling conveys a sense of safety, robustness, light weight and go-anywhere attitude.

Because it is classified as a quadricycle, the FT-Me offers accessible mobility for holders of entry-level driving licences, including those as young as 14 in some markets. However, the vehicle’s versatility means it can adapted to diverse user needs, with customisable options for teenagers and professionals.

FT-Me

Excellent all-round visibility enables maximum eye-contact with other road users, enhancing safety and manoeuvrability. The vehicle is equipped with advanced connectivity features, allowing seamless smartphone integration for keyless entry and access to services. The vehicle can also be driven solely by hand commands using the steering wheel, so it can be operated by wheelchair users without the need for aftermarket modification.

Toyota’s commitment to sustainability is evident in the FT-Me’s design. It uses recycled materials and aims for a 90% reduction in carbon footprint compared to today’s city vehicles. The propulsion system consumes three times less energy per kilometre than a high-capacity battery electric car. An example of this is that the main battery can be supplementarily charged by the solar panel roof, adding 12-18 miles of driving range per day in urban settings. Depending on the weather, this could mean that some users may never need to physically plug-in the vehicle to charge it.

FT-Me

As cities continue to evolve, the FT-Me concept provides a versatile, sustainable and stylish solution. It marks another step towards creating an all-inclusive mobility ecosystem for people, goods and services.
