Following its debut at this year’s Geneva International Motor Show, the new Corolla GR Sport is now available to configure and order, with deliveries scheduled to commence in January 2020.
2020 Corolla GR Sport
The Corolla GR Sport is the latest model to be influenced by Toyota Gazoo Racing’s championship-winning spirit, and features unique details to endow the car with a more athletic appearance, inside and out.
Its dedicated styling elements include more sharply designed lower bumpers, with honeycomb grille mesh and piano black surrounds on the front, and for the hatchback a diffuser effect with silver inserts at the rear. Black inserts in the sills visually link the two ends, while new 18-inch bi-tone black alloy wheels (17-inch on Touring Sports model) feature a bright machined finish around the rim and tips of the spokes.
Finishing touches include red GR centre caps for the wheels, GR badging on the body, black backgrounds for the Toyota emblems on the bonnet and tailgate, and the option of a new Ash Grey paint finish.
Inside, the Corolla GR Sport equipment specification matches that of the Design grade and further includes a new seven-inch colour TFT multi-information screen with 3D-effect graphics, and a colour head-up display. The tech list also includes Toyota’s latest multimedia package, featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration.
But perhaps the most obvious additions to the cabin are the sports front seats, upholstered in black fabric with a dedicated pinstripe pattern and with the bolsters finished in black-and-grey synthetic leather.
Any other changes for the 2020 Corolla line?
More than 13,000 British-built new Corolla models have been sold in the UK since its launch in March 2019, during which time the range has expanded to three body styles: hatchback, estate and saloon. This early success has no doubt contributed to its election as one of seven finalists in the 2020 European Car of the Year title.
The most significant overall change for the 2020 model year is that Corolla becomes a hybrid-only range, with the discontinuation of the 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine. Depending on the model, the powertrain options therefore consist of either 1.8- or 2.0-litre self-charging hybrid units offering 120bhp and 181bhp respectively.
The new GR Sport and Trek grades (above) add further excitement to the existing Icon, Icon Tech, Design and Excel trim levels, while Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration is now standard across all models.

The car looks great but I still think you are missing a trick by not connecting Toyota’s Le Mans success to the road cars. There needs to be a hybrid Corolla with at least 220 bhp wearing the GR badge to show that fast cars can be frugal as well!
My Wife and I are looking forward to our RAV4 AWDi coming in March, maybe you could squeeze the power train out of that into a Corolla?!

Is the GR Touring Sports model going to be available with a black roof in the UK?

17” wheels are available on the GR Sport model, but only on the Touring Sport version. The heads-up display feature is not available on any other model.

I am hoping to take delivery of my Corolla Touring GR 2.0 this week. I think their are a few things I will miss from my current Hyundai Tucson. The main one being the powered tailgate. Its such a pity that this isnt included in such a top of the range car. It seems as though the UK comes off second best when it comes to standard equipment. Being disabled and having a hoist fitted to lift my scooters in to the boot. A power operated tailgate would have been just the ticket. Apart from that. The other options my Tucson has I will learn to live without. Electric seats. Blind spot alert.
