Have you heard about the new Aygo X JBL? Available in selected European markets from 11 October, this sonorous special edition pairs our A-segment crossover’s urban-friendly styling and spacious interior with a premium sound system specifically crafted for the model’s interior acoustics.
Previously only available as an option on Exclusive grade models, the new Aygo X JBL special edition is equipped with the premium sound system as standard. It also benefits from unique branding and visual features worthy of its status within the Aygo X line-up.
Please note: the availability of vehicle features described in this article may be dependent on the grade of vehicle. Consult your local Toyota centre or visit toyota.co.uk for more information.
Aygo X JBL: a feast for the ears
Definition of the sound system specifications were outlined and modelled during the original Aygo X development programme, so this set-up is no afterthought. Hundreds of hours of dedicated work by JBL acoustic engineers went into designing a dynamic yet lightweight sound system tailored to the vehicle’s exact interior characteristics.
Speaker location plays a significant role in creating a wide sound stage. In the Aygo X JBL the system is led by two full-range speakers in the front doors in combination with 25mm tweeters built into the A-pillars. At the rear, a 200mm subwoofer – large for a compact car like the Aygo X – generates powerful bass and dynamic response as well as clear, dynamic sound. A 300W amplifier under the passenger seat has six channels, which JBL enginers used to fine-tune frequencies for a concert-style sound.
Thanks to Toyota Smart Connect, the driver can stream the music of their choice through wired and wireless smartphone connectivity via Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. This is all controlled on a large 10.5-inch high-definition touchscreen display unit.
Aygo X JBL: a feast for the eyes
While the sound system stimulates the ears, the exterior of the bold new Aygo X JBL catches the eye in new Jasmine Silver and bi-tone black paintwork. This creates an aesthetic contrast, accentuated by decorative Dark Jasmine elements on the front, rear and side under-runs. The bi-tone colouring extends to the rear, merging into the sills and front wheel arches, accentuated by 18-inch black alloy wheels with a distinctive Dark Jasmine segment.
The Aygo X JBL also features unique JBL branding and visual signatures inside and out. A JBL badge adorns the car’s rear hatch, while elements are reproduced on the rear window panel. Inside the compact yet spacious interior, premium colour-matched upholstery includes the JBL logo subtly perforated into the front seat backs.
Aygo X JBL and ‘The Sound of Noise’
Launched at the same time as the Aygo X JBL special edition is a newly commissioned three-track playlist entitled The Sound of Noise that is evocative of the vehicle itself and a perfect showcase for the premium JBL sound system.
Track one transports the listener on a stimulating audio journey through the heart of Berlin, Germany. It captures the hustle and bustle of city driving using an array of microphones located inside and outside the Aygo X. Track two, on the other hand, has a different vibe, where listeners can immerse themselves in ASMR-style sounds that promote relaxation – all generated by sensistive microphones recording touch actions on various materials found in the Aygo X.
Track three is informative in style, consisting of a podcast-style discussion recorded inside the Aygo X JBL. Acoustic engineer Kyle Concessi reveals the design secrets of the model’s audio system and offers insights into the challenges of creating dynamic sound within the confines of a vehicle interior, as well as the solutions used to achieve a wide sound stage inside the compact yet spacious cabin of the Aygo X.
In keeping with the connected and convenient nature of the Aygo X, The Sound of Noise playlist is available now on popular streaming platforms:

is it still 1 litre engine because i’ve owned one and it is a great wee car but gutless going up hills if you have passengers in the car
Hi Lynn, thanks for your comment.
We’re pleased to hear you are enjoying your Aygo. This generation of the Aygo X still features the 1.0L petrol engine, we’ll pass your suggestions of a bit more oomph along to our team!
Thanks,

i like the aygox ,but it needs some upgrades, this is my view, 1 get rid of those boomerang seats, lower them down, with proper head rest. 2,it needs big digital speedo , its dangerous having to bend down to look through the gap to see what speed your doing. 3 could do with reach on steering wheel. 4, the engine, good little engine but needs more power ie hybrid or turbo. 5 could do with some softer plastics, 6 gearstick could be a little shorter. 7 armrest as standard.
