Toyota’s Hybrid Synergy Drive technology is well known for delivering stunning fuel efficiency, and that’s why we’re putting it to the test in the 2012 MPG Marathon.

Toyota enters Yaris Hybrid in 2012 MPG MarathonStarting today, the event will see a Toyota Yaris Hybrid go up against 27 other cars and commercial vehicles on a testing route around the south west and Wales to test just how economical it can be.

The Yaris Hybrid is entered into the MPG Marathon for the first time, after the Yaris won its category last year.

Our team has seen the almost the full range of British Weather so far today – could it affect the Yaris Hybrid?

Er… no. Well, not except the freshly-washed bodywork.

That’s it for day one of the MPG Marathon.

Day Two

Anyone keen on making the most out of their car’s fuel tank will tell you that hills (or at least going up them) are the enemy of economy. It seems that today’s 180 mile route will put the Toyota Yaris Hybrid to the test.

Lunch-break time on the second day of the MPG Marathon. It seems that revealing your car’s fuel economy reading to your rivals at this late stage is a no-no.

That’s it! Our Yaris Hybrid team has completed the MPG Marathon. Alyson and Andrew have done their best to deliver a good result, but they’ll have to wait until tomorrow to find out how they’ve done.

In the meantime, the car must be refuelled and measured by the event’s specialists, before its final MPG figure is calculated.

We’ll let you know where the team places when the results are announced.

UPDATE October 5th: We have just been informed that the results for MPG Marathon will be published on Monday, so stay tuned to find out how our team got on.
