Toyota tops AutoBild Quality Report for reliability

Toyota has been identified as the most reliable volume car manufacturer by German motoring publication AutoBild in its annual quality report.

The 2014 result represents the third consecutive time that Toyota has topped the magazine’s reliability ranking, and also the thirteenth time that Toyota has ranked inside the top 10.

In order to reach its conclusion, AutoBild conducted more than 60,000 miles of endurance tests across a number of Toyota models.

Further contributing to the victory were the results of Germany’s infamously thorough Technischer Überwachungsverein (TÜV) Report. The German equivalent of the MOT test, TÜV sees an expert inspector examine virtually every component of a used car, using a mixture of high-tech and rudimentary equipment – the test is so rigorous that one in five cars fail it the first time around.

The results of each test – almost eight million are carried out annually – are then collated into the TÜV Report, which ranks cars from best to worst based upon the percentage of those that were tested and failed the test the first time around.

The Toyota iQ and Avensis models ranked inside the report’s top 10.
