The Toyota FT-1 concept may have been unveiled just a few hours ago, but you could get behind of the wheel of our newest sports car as soon as tomorrow!

The FT-1 will be made a playable car in the Playstation 3 game Gran Turismo 6 within 24 hours of its launch at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

See the FT-1 in detail in this video.

A free online update to the game, launching tomorrow (Tuesday, January 14th), will see the car become available as part of a unique seasonal event. Players who receive a Bronze or better in the FT-1 Challenge at the Laguna Seca track will receive the digital keys to the concept car and see it added to their garage.

Drivers will also be able to purchase the FT-1 from the in-game Toyota dealership without having to complete the event.

The Playstation Blog reports that Calty Design Research, the studio behind the Toyota FT-1, approached Gran Turismo makers Polyphony Digital to create the concept within the game as part of design process and their pitch to Toyota executives. Watching the concept car in the Gran Turismo game engine helped Toyota make the decision to build the concept model.

Kevin Hunter, President of Calty Design Research, said: “Thanks to the amazing capability of the Gran Turismo game engine, gamers can enjoy a very real simulation piloting the ultra-high performance FT-1 on the tracks it was designed to master.”

Kazunori Yamauchi, creator of Gran Turismo and President of Polyphony Digital Inc., added: “It’s always been a dream of ours to have our automotive partners use Gran Turismo in exciting new ways.

“The design team at Calty developed a stunning concept car and we were honoured to work with them to render the car digitally for the concept presentation. The FT-1 is a forward-looking, technically advanced and beautiful concept car. We can’t wait to see fans’ reactions as they drive the vehicle and get to know it the way I was able to.”
