Proace offers a choice of three efficient, Euro 5-compliant diesel engines. The 89bhp 1.6-litre engine produces 180Nm of torque and is matched to a five-speed manual transmission.

Two 2.0-litre diesel units are available, with outputs of 126 and 161bhp and peak torque figures of 320 and 340Nm respectively. Both of these engines come with a six-speed manual transmission.

An 80-litre fuel tank capacity and combined cycle fuel consumption figures of 44.1mpg give the 2.0-litre versions of ProAce a theoretical driving range of more than 770 miles before refuelling.

Toyota Proace equipment

The choice is simple when it comes to equipment: Proace comes in single grade that doesn’t stint on comfort, convenience, or practicality.

On the outside the standard design provides sliding doors on each side, 16-inch alloy wheels with wheel caps, fog lamps, daytime running lights and heated electric door mirrors. Customers can specify plain or glazed double steel rear doors. Where fitted, the rear windows are heated and have a wash-wipe system.

The cabin environment can be kept comfortable with air conditioning. Other features include Bluetooth, electric windows, and the choice of a single front passenger seat or two-person bench.

Where safety is concerned, all Proace come with driver and front passenger airbags, ABS and Vehicle Stability Control.

Further choices can be made when it comes to the bulkhead between cabin and loadspace. A ladder-type bulkhead is fitted as standard, with a steel ladder bulkhead featured in the crew van. A steel bulkhead with or without a glazed window section can be specified as an option on the panel van.

  1. What Have you Done? I bought my last two Hi-Ace vans because they have Rear Wheel Drive! I tow trailers and I teach trailer driving with my van and two ton box van. Front wheel drive is terrible by comparison. My Hi-Ace is useless where conditions are bad, but I did not buy it for Off Road work. I bought it because Rear Wheel drive is better for towing and the Engine has fantastic low end torque. Also I get 60,000 miles + from my tyres! Will this front wheel drive get that? I’m very disappointed as it looks like I’ll have to get a Vito van next time.

    1. Hi Robert,

Thank you for taking the time to contact us.
We do appreciate your feedback and am sorry to hear you’re disappointed with the new Proace. We will pass your feedback on to the relevant department, for their information and consideration.
There are 10 versions of the new Proace to choose from, covering key customer preferences in terms of load capacity, payload and performance. We trust that, along with your Dealer, we’ll be able to help find the right model for you.
If you have any other questions regarding the Proace please do ask, we’re here to help.

      Kind regards

      Toyota UK

  2. I can only echo the comments from Robert Laird. Over the years I have had five HiAce vans. They have been excellent vehicles, good for getting into tight spots, with the lifting rear tailgate very useful in bad weather.
It seems as if Toyota have simply lost direction. After years of owning Toyota cars I have now changed to Honda and have discovered reliability again! Now we are being offered a re-badged version of a van from another manufacturer. I’ll be looking elsewhere when I change in the next few months.

  3. why have you rebadged a citeron/Peugeot/fiat van,if I had wanted one of them I could of probably bought it cheaper than your badged version ,when im buying a Toyota van I want a Toyota engine if the emission were to high on the old hiace van why not revamp the engine ,the cost of the new proace seems abit of the high side, I think the vw transporter will take over this market ,i currently have a fairly fresh older model and would of bought a new old type hiace but definatly wouldn’t buy a new proace ,they will never hold there value and wouldn’t be great at pulling heavy loads

  4. As a Roofing Company We’ve always had Hi Ace’s since the 1980’s and never had any problems whatsoever with them, we’ve currently 4 in our fleet of 7 vans and they are the best vans in our fleet so it’s to our Big Disappointment that Toyota has replaced the Legendary Hi Ace with a van such as the Pro Ace (a re badged Fiat). A couple of years back we decided to buy a new one of these Fiat vans (identical to the Pro Ace) and it just wasn’t up to the job – between problems with clutches, gearboxes and other things we’d no choice but to sell the van within a few months and buy a Real Van – A Hi Ace! Anyway, I really hope Toyota reconsider this bad decision and redesign the Hi Ace or a new Toyota Designed and Built Van for future businesses to enjoy and depend on.

    Regards

    1. Hello Paul
Thanks for your post and it is good to read of your support for the Hiace over the years.
We have wanted to continue competing in the panel van market and are aware of the support the Hiace has received from local businesses in the past. This is why we have entered into an agreement with Peugeot Citroen (PSA) to build a van at their Sevelnord plant (the Fiat you mention is no longer built there). The Proace only went on sale in the summer and is based on the vans built by Peugeot and Citroen. We have invested in the plant in terms of industrial equipment and R&D and will look to develop Toyota panel vans there in the future in conjunction with PSA. We currently enjoy a very successful relationship with PSA sharing production of models in the Czech Republic which includes the Toyota Aygo. Hope this helps to answer your question but let me know if otherwise. Also, if you need any details regarding your local Toyota Dealer or would like to arrange a test drive please let us know.

  5. Hi, will there be a taxi version in the proace, like there is an Peugeot e7/ Citroen dispatch/ fiat scudo???

If there is, who is the converter?
Will there be a 8/9 seater version?
    Will there be hybrid version

    Kind regards
    Mr Ahmed
    Ish08@me.com

    1. Hi Ishtiaq
Thanks for your post abnout Proace.
We currently offer a Crewcab version of the Proace (seats 5/6 depending on configuration) but no plans to offer a full taxi version at present. There are also no plans to offer a hybrid option at this stage.
      Hope this helps.

  6. Even if there was a Taxi version, it would not be accepted in London as the front wheel drive does not have a good enough turning circle!

  7. I also bought my 2007 Toyota Hiace for its rear wheel drive and independant rear suspension setup, as I tow a trailer unit all day every day. Not the most fuel efficient van, but the torque is great and the turning circle good. Most of the time you forget your pulling over a ton all day!!

Have tried front wheel drive towing before…. Expensive waste of time !

Disappointed to learn that I can’t buy another Hi ace !!

    1. Hi Robert
      Thanks for your post.
Good to hear about your experience of ownership with your Hiace and sorry this is no longer available. The Proace is now the panel van we sell in Europe.

  8. Hi
Only want to know can we fix proace engine (2L) in Peugeot expert taxi model without any major alternation, like engine mountain etc etc.
    Aslam

    1. Hi Aslam. Thanks for your comment. Please contact your local Toyota dealer for assistance with parts and repairs. Thanks.

  9. Hi, I’m goin got buy a new Proace and thinking about the crew cab option but are the seats and bulkhead behind them removable please.

    1. Hi Dale,
We can’t comment on changing a vehicle’s specification from standard as the vehicles we provide have whole vehicle type approval and insurance group ratings based on how they leave the factory. Many thanks!

  10. So, is the bulkhead removable on the new Toyota Proace 2lt?

Yes or no please. Bar room lawyer answers are tedious and unbefitting

    1. Hi Dale,
As per our previous comment, we cannot advise altering the specification of a vehicle from it’s original factory spec. Many thanks!
