Toyota has electrified its smallest and most accessible car! When it arrives in showrooms at the end of this year, the new Toyota Aygo X Hybrid will be the first in its segment to introduce full hybrid technology. It is a move we believe will deliver even greater character and efficiency to the small car market.
Thanks to its efficient powertrain, the new model is projected to possess the lowest CO2 emissions of any non-plug-in car. Added to that, the introduction of improved production and logistics systems means it will offer a smaller carbon footprint over its entire lifecycle than the outgoing Aygo X.

The new Aygo X Hybrid will go on sale in the UK and other selected European markets at the end of 2025. Details of the UK model range and specifications will be announced in due course, but the following is what we can reveal right now.
Toyota Aygo X Hybrid: our smallest full hybrid
The introduction of full hybrid technology to the A-segment extends electrification to the smallest and most accessible vehicle in the Toyota range, all without compromising the model’s signature condensed crossover look. The hybrid powertrain comes from the larger Yaris and Yaris Cross, and will completely replace the traditional 1.0-litre petrol engine currently used in the Aygo X. Its higher power and sharper acceleration will deliver a more energetic and exciting drive.

Adapting the Aygo X to accommodate hybrid components, while preserving the car’s wheelbase and boot space required innovative packaging. So for the first time in a Toyota hybrid, the two stacks of battery cells are positioned alongside each other across the width of the floor beneath the rear seats. Every other Toyota hybrid uses a parallel configuration, which requires more room. The hybrid powertrain itself is larger, so the model’s front overhang has been extended by 76mm. Smart packaging also sees the auxiliary battery moved under the boot floor, without losing any storage capacity.

Driving
Overall system power output is increased by 43bhp compared to the previous non-hybrid version, reaching a maximum of 114bhp and delivering the 0-62mph dash in less than ten seconds. The benefits of full hybrid technology make the new Aygo X Hybrid an ideal partner for modern city driving, with predicted class-leading CO2 emissions of 86g/km. That figure ensures it complies with low emission zone requirements, while the extra power makes longer drives more comfortable and stress-free.

The Aygo X Hybrid has nimble handling for urban streets thanks to its GA-B platform and the low positioning of the hybrid battery, which contribute to a low centre of gravity and a highly rigid body. A 4.7m turning radius is ideal for manoeuvring with confidence in confined spaces.
The car is also quieter and offers a smoother ride thanks to new noise-damping components. These include dash silencers, bonnet insulation and engine underbody cover, plus an updated exhaust system and silencer. Further noise reduction measures feature on higher grade models, including thicker window glass and additional soundproofing throughout the body.

Safety is a priority in the Aygo X Hybrid, so the model benefits from a comprehensive Toyota Safety Sense safety and driver assistance package. This includes an enhanced pre-collision system, lane trace and road sign assist features, as well as a new emergency driving stop system and proactive driving assist. For the first time on an Aygo X, over the air software updates will ensure safety systems are optimised.
Design
The Aygo X Hybrid features an all-new frontal design that not only helps to accommodate the hybrid powertrain but emphasises the model’s compact SUV identity. The new bonnet, headlights and grille create a strong stance, enhanced by 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels (depending on grade) and black, flared wheel arches. Look closer and you realise that the leading edge of the bonnet is further forward than before and the indicators have been repositioned in the door mirrors.

An optional bi-tone colour scheme is available to enhance the car’s dynamic presence, with the contrasting black section extending from the roof across the rear quarters and into the side sills. Exterior colour options draw inspiration from mellow culinary spices, with distinctive Cinnamon, Jasmine, Tarragon and Lavender options. A canvas roof is also introduced as an option on higher grades.

Despite the compact external dimensions, interior space has been maximised and a high driving position provides superior visibility. Four passengers can sit comfortably and there is 231 litres of luggage capacity in the boot. A new seven-inch digital combimeter and heater control panel enhance the sophistication of the dashboard area, while an electronic parking brake and two USB-C charging ports come standard on all grades. A new wireless smartphone charger, powered folding mirrors, and nanoe-X air quality system should also be available on higher grades.
Introducing the Aygo X Hybrid GR Sport
For the first time, a GR Sport version will be available within the Aygo X Hybrid range, bringing a more engaging drive and striking sporty look inspired by the multiple world championship-winning Toyota Gazoo Racing motorsport teams. It has an exlusive Mustard bi-tone colour scheme, which includes a black bonnet, GR Sport alloy wheels, and the G-pattern grille mesh seen elsewhere in the GR family. Inside the cabin, black and grey accents, plus GR logo embroidery, contribute to the sporty feel.

The Aygo X Hybrid GR Sport is more fun to drive, too, with dedicated suspension tuning for enhanced handling and body roll control. The electric power steering has also been tuned for sharper response. These measures have been engineered to provide a more exciting driving experience without compromising ride comfort on urban streets.

Reduced carbon footprint
The new Aygo X Hybrid opens a gateway to electrification for more people. We estimate that the model will have an 18% smaller lifetime carbon footprint compared to the previous, non-hybrid generation. The ultra-efficient hybrid powertrain is the largest single factor in this achievement, combined with the use of new materials and efforts to reduce the environmental impact of car production and logistics.

Every aspect of the car’s lifecycle was scrutinised. As an example, in-mould colour technology was applied on specific components, whereby colour is applied during the injection moulding. It is a process that produces less emissions than painting the components afterwards. Further emissions are saved by using recycled plastic and fabrics for new seat upholstery materials, for an animal product-free interior.
Furthermore, our manufacturing facility in Kolín, Czechia, which produces the Aygo X Hybrid, is powered by renewable electricity, while streamlined, smarter parts and vehicle logistics operations have also contributed to lowering emissions.
Details of the new Toyota Aygo X Hybrid were correct at the time of publishing, with all performance data remaining tentative prior to homologation. The full UK model range and grade specifications will be announced soon, ahead of its launch at the end of 2025.
